Goat milk can be mixed with cow milk to make cheese as they do in Europe and the Middle East. Like I said, I am a good cook. The other day I made pea soup biscuits. I dented the biscuits and put two table spoons of pea soup in there before I put them in the oven. They come out great.
I agree. Shared guiding principals are great. I see that as the first step. As far as the "conniving lawyer" goes: I hope that would be weeded out up front at first base. Good will towards fellow human beings is what I'm about. Again, I started this thread to get OLDER Hippies together. I got the idea after meeting several who were living all alone in government housing and many others who resided long term in homeless shelters. This is one way to help old Hippies who are poor in the financial sense but otherwise possess great character.
There are a lot of things I leave grow but these invasive species... If they aren't poisonous they have thorns, burrs or harm the trees. As a side note... Climate change favors the invasive species while stressing the native/desirable plants. So it's just going to get worse.
Ha! I'm in Kennewick. And believe me I know land is expensive here. I was not implying that is where I need to be. I'm adaptable Storm.
I agree. Just look at Creeping Charley! The plant was brought as decoration from china … by some rich southern aristocrat. After the civil war their plantation was neglected and the weed began to take hold in the wild. In 100 years it went from Georgia to Indiana. Now nothing will get rid of it. Only the Amish treatment with Borax and vinegar and salt will push it back in a temporary sense. In Colorado, the Goat Head weed came up in the hooves of long horn cattle from Texas. I saw Dandelion on top of Trail Ridge Road above 12000 Ft elevation. That is an invasive weed from Europe; but, you can eat it. Some day the rest of the American people will figure that one out!
Rising, now I'll tell you my concerns: I don't want to buy a house and several out buildings on 3 acres and be left to take care of it all by myself. So, I need to know from the others who are serious about doing it: Concerning where to buy? I found a couple of places here in Northern Indiana/southern Michigan which cost about $100,000. One place looks like it has good potential and the price is $84000, and it's a big enough house! Some of these places are estate sale old farm houses five miles out of town … so no city water/sewer! If I am going to live alone or with just say five or six others, then I would tend to go for a smaller place with a single level ranch. I can paint the single level but have no desire to paint a two story from a ladder. The roof on a two story would be tough on a guy my age; so, there goes money for a roofer. The sheet rock/dry wall repairs inside are easy for two people. We need two because sheet rock is heavy. Mud work, Join Compound, sanding, painting can be done by one person. Here in northern Indiana we need heat from October through March, and even maybe into April. The winters have been more mild the last few years but I remember the seventies when winter was more like Alaska. There is plenty of hard-wood here for the fire place but the wood cutters want serious money. It takes at least six full cords to get through the winter, otherwise you gotta look at other ways. In the country that means you've gotta buy propane or burn vegetable oil or used car oil. The pellet stove or corn burner will invite every mouse in 275 miles. Water in the farm country is a hit or miss deal. Everyone here seems to use a water softner system. In Colorado I used four stages of filters. You can mix things up, like use the well water for washing clothes, dishes, shower, toilet, and use filtered rain water for cooking and drinking? But if people are determined … many hands makes for light work! If one of these places is in fair shape with strong bones and a good roof, then we can do the rest.
I used to know some people in Packwood. That place got real expensive too. I used to know a guy up in Trout Lake. I knew the editor of the Coleville Indian Times newspaper up on the Rez.
OK all you OLD Hippies … Have a look online at 10989 N 300 E Rome City Indiana 46784 There are nice pictures on the real estate pages. There is a street view which shows how wooded it is. There are several small towns around it. Major towns are Fort Wayne and South Bend.
Very pretty area. The town has a nice website, and a storm shelter. And gun safety classes. Interesting that there is a Ski Lake there. Good revenue for the town during tournaments. I also like how the house is kinda nestled between TWO towns. The house itself needs a helluva lot of work, but it looks like plenty of space. That sunroom could be made beautiful and functional again. I'm pretty good at interior painting. (used to be a property manager) It is my belief we COULD do this. My biggest concern is - this is Pence country and Cult 45 is becoming rabid. Oh and truth time. I have a medical green card I use for anxiety. I suppose I could find an alternative however. Most days, I don't need it at all. When I checked out Indiana's cannabis laws, my jaw dropped. What century is this? But I gotta be honest. MAGAt's are beginning to scare me. At my last protest there were a couple moments of real fear. Maybe I'll just get a Rottie? Nice find however!
Hey you guys? Where is everybody living these days? As I previously stated, I'm currently in S.E.Washington state. Asking because if I'm seriously going to drive my butt clear across the country to retire with a bunch of veritable strangers, I'd like to meet everyone first. Like face to face. Share coffee with. Chew the fat. I don't know about you guys, but MY schedule is wide open. I'd like to drive over and meet everyone. (I don't trust easy)
Say Hi to Akira. Took her to one of those do-it-yourself dog washing places today. As she is half chow, I was a stinky wet dog hair covered mess afterwards. She looked great however!
Well, that place is closer to South Bend which is Pete Buttigieg country. I wasn't thinking about green card cuz I don't smoke. Indiana did vote to legalize it but the Republicans control the General Assembly and all the police forces. Behind the scene the KKK has full control of the Republican party. They used to hang Black guys in public as recently as 1930, in Marion. Michigan has similar places and has a green card system. I'll post that info on here soon. When I looked at that Indiana location I was thinking about the amount of sun we'd get for a solar system. In Michigan it would be less sun and there would be more snow.
Southern Indiana is Republican country and also has the highest AIDS rates in all of America. The Republican guys down there like backdoor sex. Led Zepplin's song "IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR" is very popular among them Republicans.
Solar panels. Awesome idea Storm. Funny I was wondering if Snowtigger had much experience with greenhouses. I was also checking into dog regulations in that particular area. A lot of regs against pits through Indiana, but that little spot doesn't seem to care, far as I can tell. Mind you, I don't have a pit, but eventually I'd like a dog again. Security and companionship. Just scoping out the rules. Selecting a dog isn't something one does on a whim...
Seriously? How sad that they detest who they are. (and NOT using protection in this day and age is just plain STUPID)
I'm not a fan of pits. They are all over the place here. I like Catahula Hounds and Kangal. The Kangal is used in Asia to protect sheep from Wolves and Bears. They make great farm/family dogs and so do the Catahulas. I had my Catahula on the semi truck with me for years. He even peed in Kennewick!
I think they do needle sharing too? I'm not sure … just heard about it on the radio. I wanted to tell you I found another place in Bad Axe Michigan. It's five miles north of town and got 5 acres. There are a couple of places around Kalamazoo with like half acre lots. Also there are a couple of places near Geneva Indiana with like an acre and there are Amish there who still use horse and buggy to get around. So you gotta watch for them when you drive.
