I mean, the fossil fuel industry already is subsidized by taxpayers, babied... had a few wars started for it.

Why not do that for electric cars instead? At least we won't have to go to war for wind.

  4. You answered it when you said fossil fuel industry. They will kill any emerging technology that can replace them. Solar and wind don't have a chance against the sheer power that can be generated with big old analog technology. UNLESS, the consumption can be reduced. And that can't happen if we keep making children and iPhones.

Nuclear is the only possible competitor for combustion generator systems, but people are scared of it. And rightfully so when you consider the lax government oversight and potential for radioactive leakage. Imagine places where nobody will be able to live for 1,500 years because of a radioactive "accident".

  5. 2020 Vision: Why Warren's honeymoon may be coming to an end

I wondered how this might go. Warren has made a career our of badgering witnesses (and political rivals) with tactical questioning and a ruthless talent for projecting her own words and ideas onto others, assigning ownership of her creation. Other than Trump everyone who has questioned her heritage has been shoved into a corner. Up to now it has been easy for her to pull the same kind of dodge ball game Hillary was playing.

But that won't win her the election, as we have seen. She's going to have to play by the rules, give real answers and prepare for the worst (imagine if they could actually track down the Native American whose career was upended by the biggest lie in her career). At some point she'll be up on stage with Trump and her coy tactics aren't going to return any value. Everyone will be watching.

I think democrats are going to be surprised with the demographic analysis of this approaching election. But it still won't fix their main problem; never admitting when they're wrong (something republicans do very well).

    From the comments:
"Democratic presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren identifies as a capitalist, which makes sense, given her estimated $12 million fortune.

She and her husband, Bruce Mann, both longtime law professors, hold much of their wealth in retirement accounts. Their TIAA and CREF accounts—available to educators and nonprofit employees—are worth at least $4 million. They also own two homes: a $3 million Victorian in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and an $800,000 condo in Washington, D.C."

A quarter of the world's economy is based on the export of fossil fuels, and the countries which export the most tend to rely on it for over half of their income. Even if we made a deliberate effort to convert to renewable energy right this minute, we would still require new technology to prevent global warming.

Nuclear power is bullshit that only supports the agenda of the Pentagon and corporations. It is ridiculously expensive, and cleaner and cheaper technology already exists. In fact, Fukushima is still pouring deadly radioactive waste into the pacific, eight fucking years later, because the nuclear power industry is notorious for never cleaning up their messes. Fukushima was a cheap nuclear reactor based on experimental submarine designs, constructed on the most earthquake and tsunami prone island in the world, while the executives were all indicted five years previous to the meltdown for violating every safety regulation in the book, including stacking spent rods on top of the reactor.

Chernobyl will be habitable again in another 30 years, while the only people still arguing that nuclear power is a viable option are all fucking lawyers. My own father, tended such nuclear submarine engines. The Pentagon pushes any technology that is still largely a mystery and, without a theory of everything, most of what little we know about radiation is still based on antiquated theories over half a century old. Just recently, for example, it was discovered that some cosmic rays penetrate the entire earth, something which was long believed to be flat out impossible.

  7. In my opinion, after all the disasters and the potential for total global destruction, nuclear power plants should all be shut down. They're too dangerous.

I disagree? I think she can handle trump on a debate stage; and if he starts with the Pocahontas bullshit, it may not end well for him.

  9. She's just a performer, angling to be the first woman in the top seat, so she can "make" history. It's not about her qualifications or demeanor, it's about hitting landmarks. Her solutions to real world situations have never been considered or demonstrated. All she does is talk and blame others for her genetic failure. Tulsi Gabbard would be a far better choice than Warren, but we're in the money part of the game as well as having the press control how often we see any particular candidate. I'm kind of tired of having all these privileged old blue bloods running the show.

Then discourage people from voting, since their votes no longer matter anyway.

  16. I admit that I find myself entertaining this idea more and more these days. But I'm not entirely convinced. Primarily because of the foolish amounts of money that are wasted utterly on political campaigns.

Really though, I think we all know that a relatively small number of families run the planet and play their petty conflicts out on the global public at large. It could be that elections and voting are nothing more than a way to inject a randomizer into the game.

Donald Duck is a former democrat, elected against the wishes of his own party leaders, who would impeach him, if not for the fact their own constituents would never forgive them. There's nobody in charge around here, which is why they are spending more on elections. Its what can be called a "natural selection" criteria, where they weed out poor people and working class slobs who don't support corporations. Roughly 60% of congress are now lawyers, while if voter turnout drops any lower they will be begging people to vote, because its already a complete sham.

They are counting on the 1/3 of the country that is stupid enough to believe that Donald Duck is being constructive, because they are also stupid enough to keep voting and make them look legitimate.

Americans are so stupid they actually believe voting the bums out of office is a political strategy.
