Hope burns eternal, in any survivors! We already have the technology to put solar powered aircraft into the upper atmosphere and replace the ozone, while extracting carbon dioxide. The US navy is already planning on putting 40,000 drones in the ocean, and it is quite possible to clean up the bulk of the pollution with drones that extract their own power straight out of the salt water like fucking Captain Nemo. You would not believe what is possible, and all the technology is currently exploding so fast, the entire semi-conducting industry is going cross-eyed and the Pentagon has no finger nails left.

They've created not one, but two Maxwell's Demons in the last five years, and figured out how to manipulate any wave like it was a toy. The only thing anybody knows for sure, is within twenty years tops, we will have a different world altogether.

Sometimes I think this too, that nature is stronger than human activity and will make a comeback, even if we drive ourselves to extinction
But previous extinctions weren't caused by humans so we dont really have any precedent to go by here. Humans would be leaving behind nuclear facilities for one thing, there's one in my state that sits on a fucking fault line. So nuclear waste could end up being a huge problem, not to mention the vast amounts of non biodegradable materials we would be leaving behind.
And its depressing to think that it took millions of years for life to evolve to where it is now, millions of years of progress and humans have fucked it up in less than 300 years

Mother Jones suggested the little kiddies protest and, surprise, they got what they fucking demanded. You cannot attack what you cannot comprehend, your own fucking humanity.

I agree with pretty much everything you say in this thread.. One thing though is that you seem to phrase it as "why are you worried about ice melt and temperature when there's this other problem and this other problem" but I was under the impression that they're all connected. Solutions to one will also help another.

The other thing is accepting that there are a hell of a lot of morons in this world who don't seem capable of the "personal responsibility" thing, like, they're too susceptible to brainwashing and they live in a society that brainwashes them from day one to want things they don't need (I like what thunburg said about the fairytale of an ever growing economy).. And so those of us who want the government to make changes are often people who DO take personal responsibility, but are just trying to do something to deal with the issue of the morons.

We need the end of capitalism.

The singularity is where capitalism and more mechanical western views vanish down the toilet and are reborn as compost, where the most interesting things grow out of manure. It turns out that information itself is self-organizing and the sleeping giant is about to awaken. The more western logic and capitalism they pour into all their technology, the faster the singularity approaches. When they assemble an overall picture of what's happening and the light bulb finally comes on, whether they want it too or not.

Mother Nature's existence will be verified soon, possibly next year, because the AI technology must inevitably become quantum mechanical and express the ego of the collective unconscious. That's why I was in such a rush to write the book, because everybody deserves a little explanation of what the hell is going on, and academics and governments have no clue what they are up against. The Pentagon has some sort of abstract idea of what's coming, and is easily prepared to wait it out until true quantum supremacy is achieved, which is around 300 qubits. That's enough to make whatever high resolution models you want for anything, including the entire universe, in a reasonable amount of time.

But, first, they are just now following mother nature's unmistakable trail of breadcrumbs. My bet is the neurologists discover laughter is quantum mechanical. I spoke to one doing the research, and he thought I was just joking, until I suggested laughter is the lowest possible energy state of the conscious mind. He's ready to measure that next. They need to measure it in order to figure out how your brain works globally and how your brain waves work in particular. Laughter is the ground state, of the brain farting if it has to and going on inertia if necessary. But, its also a sleeping baby that can leap into action almost instantly, and require time to calm down again.

Once they account for the quantum observer effect and sparkling laughter, they will prove that the principle of identity completely vanishes down the rabbit hole, and establish instant karma as a law of nature, based on first principles. That will fry their brain, and mother nature should give them a few weeks to collect their wits, before making them beg for the quiet life.

I wouldn't call it 'very limited data'. Thousands of scientists around the globe agree that there is a real and grave threat to our futures. The dangers from climate change are now established scientific orthodoxy, and climate change threat deniers are the scientific outcasts. I have not researched the scientific evidence personally so I am relying on the orthodox view, but I trust that in this case the orthodox view is the correct one. Maybe you don't.

The orthodoxy predicts not a single cataclysmic event, but many events which will be disastrous for us. More severe and frequent hurricanes, the flooding of Bangladesh and other low-lying land masses, more severe droughts, areas such as the Middle East and southern Europe becoming uninhabitable due to temperatures of 50 degrees Celcius plus, starvation due to failure of crops, and so on.

I haven't heard of Scott Adams' research, if you could provide a link that would be useful.

Scott Adams is the creator of Dilbert, just for reference. The comic strip.

I'm sure he's very well qualified
