Stormountains original quote Apparently only Republican Presidents pressed for trade with China and killed unionism Clinton and Obama must have used magic unicorns and elves to revert it all back again. Its not about Trump is it, its that he is Republican, wouldnt matter who the president was if he was Republican to you lot
Oh, I don't know Lincoln was a great Republican president, Grant was pro civil rights, Hayes was anti KKK, Garfield supported civil rights, Harrison supported civil rights and set aside federal land. Teddy Roosevelt was a progressive and pushed regulation, trust busting, and was a conservationist. Eisenhower continued the "New Deal" and increased benefits to an extra ten million workers, he was also a progressive. So there have been many notable Republican presidents......too bad this one is a complete idiot.
Actually, yes. I remember him well and didn't care for him. But compared to the Republican presidents who came after he was highly intelligent, knew foreign policy, etc. Too bad he got involved with a burglary intended to influence an election.
The Democrat President before him started the Vietnam war. The Democrat President after him bombed the crap out of Nth Vietnam
Reagan's merits were not the issue. But since you bring it up, yes, Reagan did deliver the death blow to unionism, and with it the middle class. All the kings horses and all the kings men, and Clinton, and Obama couldn't put it back together again. Ronald Reagan: The Union Buster The Day Ronald Reagan Destroyed the American Labor Movement Opinion | Reagan vs. Patco: The Strike That Busted Unions Reaganomics killed America's middle class 6 Ways You Didn't Realize Ronald Reagan Ruined The Country | Cracked.com Column: How Reaganomics, deregulation and bailouts led to the rise of Trump As for China, one more time: that issue was brought up by your fellow notmyrealname, who was claiming that Obama "sold America's soul to China". Stormountain man pointed out that Nixon opened the door to China and that Reagan continued the policy. I happen to think it was a good thing; that and Nixon's sponsoring of environmental protection that Trump has so assiduously been tearing down. But remember, it was Reagan who introduced the "borrow and spend" version of Republicanism that led to our becoming so heavily in debt to China. | Continuing to misunderstand the point and harping on it must be construed as deflection--from the serious problems raised by the Trump Presidency. You illustrate two logical fallacies: tu quoque, othewise known as "whataboutism"(but Clinton, but Obama) and red herrring (using a side topic in an irrelevant manner, i.e., deflection).
The Democratic president after Nixon/Ford was Carter. The war was already over. Carter did not bomb the hell out of North Vietnam.
Reagan championed the redistribution of wealth...to the rich. Because of the myth(lie) that he was as altruistic as Mother Teresa this nation has been unable and unwilling to reverse this trend. Even Obama revered to him in glowing terms.
I agree, I think opening the door to China was a good thing. If for no other reason, it may have prevented another war in Asia. Nixon also opened the door to the Soviet Union. Nixon wasn't a great environmentalist, but he was able to get some important things passed. Nixon's downfall was his ego, and his alcoholism.
Ahh baby boomers. Sure you and our little Brexit friend arent cousins? So Reagan killed Americas middle class.....not the 1/2 billion chinese happy to work in factories for $5 a day In real life, do you ever try to explain that to like anyone under 50 and they just look at you like its time for a full time nurse
I thought we were talking about Republican presidents. The French "started" the Vietnam War, in your terms. The French were involved in Vietnam since the 1600's. French Vietnam was invaded and occupied by the Japanese during WWII. When the Japanese were defeated Vietnam was in chaos. The Allies divided it into a northern section supported by China and the Russians and the southern portion supported by the other allies. It was to be reunited in 1956. Anyway...it's very complicated no one president started anything.
Another one pops out of the woodwork Anyone else here besides me not old enough to remember when McHales Navy first aired?
Except Kennedy started it Ho chi minh wrote him twice, he ignored it. Then Kennedy backed the wrong guy in the south
