Here is a Wikipedia list of incumbent presidents who did NOT win. The most recent are at the bottom, and sure enough George H.W. Bush was a republican incumbent. But I think strictly from a record keeping standpoint, most of the presidents we have elected have been republican. Why the Republican Presidents Would Win a Tug-of-War Also, most times when an incumbent is running I think the incumbent is reelected (though I can't find any support for this - blast Google!). 1797–1801 John Adams United States 1800 United States presidential election Thomas Jefferson 1825–1829 John Quincy Adams United States 1828 United States presidential election Andrew Jackson 1837-1841 Martin Van Buren United States 1840 United States presidential election William Henry Harrison Van Buren also ran in the 1848 presidential election with the Free Soil Party. 1885-1889 Grover Cleveland United States 1888 United States presidential election Benjamin Harrison Cleveland lost the Election of 1888, but won the 1892 United States presidential election. 1889-1893 Benjamin Harrison United States 1892 United States presidential election Grover Cleveland 1909-1913 William Howard Taft United States 1912 United States presidential election Woodrow Wilson 1929-1933 Herbert Hoover United States 1932 United States presidential election Franklin D. Roosevelt 1974-1977 Gerald Ford United States 1976 United States presidential election Jimmy Carter 1977–1981 Jimmy Carter United States 1980 United States presidential election Ronald Reagan 1989–1993 George H. W. Bush United States 1992 United States presidential election Bill Clinton
John Adams and Quincy were from the time of Jeffersonian democracy, which was a totally different political map from that of today. A more telling map of American politics, is how many lawyers we have elected to office and, in modern times, how many mass media stars. The numbers rise along with the amount spent on a single campaign, and how often the vote has been tampered with. The louder republicans scream that the system doesn't represent them, the more convinced everyone else is it most certainly doesn't. The South demanded everything imaginable, and the north tried to buy them off, only to encourage the bastards to think they could steal half the country from under their feet, and charge them extra for cotton. Southerners were making a killing already, but nobody ever said Hitler's reach did not exceed his grasp, and the British urged the south to attack the north.
Trump's presidency is not a normal presidency--Republican or otherwise, by any means. I'm not persuaded by the relevance of predictions based on usual past occurrences.
Donald Duck is not fundamentally different from Andrew Jackson, except he's a coward as well as a complete idiot, and the military has to debate whether to erase his ass.
Trump is now calling the impeachment proceedings a "coup" attempt, equating a constitutional procedure with an illegal one. Speaking of coups, Putin said (jokingly?) he'd interfere in the U.S. 2020 elections--but don't tell anybody. Putin jokes he's going to interfere in the 2020 election — but 'don't tell anybody' He was laughing, but what's to stop him? Trump? Putin is also defending Trump over the Ukraine calls. What a surprise!
The public may not comprehend much about politics, but the fact their votes no longer matter is starting to sink in, and they are less confident then ever that their votes matter at all. Donald Duck is making it clear that if they continue to support him and the Libertarian Neo-Nazis, their votes will become totally meaningless. Considering the white population is shrinking fast, I'd say a little payback is coming. Democracy ain't perfect, but neither is insanity. Putin only wishes he could do what the NSA does. They will make him pay. AI is the new Manhattan Project, and will make Russian hackers obsolete. Such analog circuitry can be anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000x more efficient and deadly accurate. They will trash every computer in Russia if they haven't already, with the latest neuromorphic circuitry capable of cracking almost any code known. The entire US internet is way too vulnerable, with perhaps 60% of all commercial companies getting hacked, but those days are numbered, along with half the ships on the ocean carrying contraband cargo. Putin is living off the black market, just like the old Soviet Union and North Korea. All the confusion is partly to blame for our current politics, and the democrats can't claim to be the honest party, but they can claim to promote fair elections, if they actually promote the new technology already coming on the market and about to change everything anyway. They are holding back, in part, because they still don't have the theory of everything, but they most certainly intend to make the entire internet controlled by AI and defended from all but the most concerted attacks. The Neo-Nazis can complain all they want, and the government can tell them to go to hell after Donald Duck.
Interesting report on NPR With Nixon, there was bipartisan support to impeach, but with Clinton, there wasn't. Clinton wasn't going down without a fight. Trump will not go down without a fight, and at least right now there isn't bipartisan support to impeach, yet. Now trump is playing the coup d' etat card. Unfortunately for him, most of his supporters don't know what that is.
There is no bipartisan support that anyone knows of, but just about all of congress would lie to their own mother, and there is no advantage in admitting you want to impeach the first Neo-Nazi president. Right now, what's happening behind the scenes can probably be compared to how hotdogs are made, and is unfit for human consumption.
Interesting press conference by Pelosi and Schiff. Pelosi started off by presenting three bills she hopes the White House will join her in working on: prescription drugs, the Mexico-Canada agreement, and gun safety. As she said, the ball will be in his court if he wants to let impeachment proceedings stand in the way of constructive legislation. Then they made clear that they will be issuing subpoenas in the impeachment trial, and if the Administration tries to stonewall, they'll 1) treat that as evidence of obstruction; and (2) take it as an admission that the evidence being withheld is damning. As Schiff said, no more "fooling around".
They have no fucking choice, but to call his bluff in refusing to even have his people appear in court or before congress. Either the president answers to the judicial system or he owns it, and any laws made by congress only mean whatever he says they mean. Libertarians can cuss all they want, but this bastard is merely another Libertarian asshole about to be thrown out of office. Its not like we have a shortage of them. There is no way the American people will tolerate Donald Duck declaring himself judge and executioner. Judge Dred they might tolerate, but never Judge Donald Duck. I AM THE LAW!
Even if his own party does throw him under the bus, Dems still have to produce a decent candidate for next election You sure you are all thinking ahead?
Sanders out. Biden halfway out which leaves Warren. Native American. She looks like she could’ve come over on the Mayflower. And she polls terribly with African Americans.
Trump continues to be a preschooler with an increasingly profane mouth. In a previous instance, he referred to Schiff as Schitt. This time Trump apparently made innuendo to a jock strap. Trump explodes as Democrats ratchet up impeachment push The president lashed out at Hill Democrats as House leaders announced a fresh round of potential White House subpoenas. Trump escalates attacks on impeachment probe October 2, 2019 Trump explodes as Democrats ratchet up impeachment push excerpt: "WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump ripped into the ramped-up impeachment efforts on Capitol Hill as "BULLSHIT" on Wednesday, as lawmakers signaled that White House refusal to comply with their requests would be used as evidence against him. “The Do Nothing Democrats should be focused on building up our Country, not wasting everyone’s time and energy on BULLSHIT, which is what they have been doing ever since I got overwhelmingly elected in 2016,” Trump tweeted as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff spoke to reporters on Capitol Hill. “[G]et a better candidate this time, you’ll need it!" he added. In a morning tweetstorm ahead of planned meetings with the visiting president of Finland, Trump called Schiff, D-Calif., a “low life,” blamed declines in the stock market on Democratic impeachment efforts and suggested staffers were inappropriately listening to his phone calls. About 30 minutes later, a combative Trump lashed out at Schiff from the Oval Office, calling him “shifty” and a “dishonest guy” who “couldn’t carry” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's “blank strap.” Those words appeared to be a reference to "jock strap.""
Trump explodes as Democrats ratchet up impeachment push excerpt: "When he was confronted by reporters with the fact that even some Republicans, like Sen Chuck Grassley of Iowa, had expressed concern over threats against the whistleblower, Trump said, "I don't care.""
Holy non sequitor.! In response to MeAgain's post pointing out that the charge of Russian interference in the 2016 election isn't a theory (having been confirmed by the CIA, FBI, NSA , the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the Mueller report, you give us this photo. For those readers who aren't followers of the scandal sheet The Daily Mail, this shows Joe Biden and his son playing golf with the son's business partner and fellow board member of Burisma holdings, the Ukranian gas company. Apparently, VG considers this evidence or proof that Biden knew about his son's business dealings on Burisma, when he said he didn't. But Biden didn't say he didn't know his son was on the board of Burisma, which would have been absurd. And the photo doesn't show them discussing matters related to Burisma. Such "evidence" may convince VG and readers of Daily Mail that something nefarious is going on, but wouldn't go far in a court of law. Once again, VG tries to put one over on us by resorting to textbook logical fallacies: non sequitor, red herring, and tu quoque (aka "whataboutism). Russians, shmussians, but what about Biden? Whataboutism seems to be a particular favorite of the Russians. Richard Sakwa (2015)/ Frontline Ukraine, p. 216 Trump Embraces One Of Russia's Favorite Propaganda Tactics — Whataboutism In Opinion: How Putin succeeded in undermining our institutions Hmmmm.
Trump goes into a rage when he thinks anyone is challenging his perceived infinite authority. His pathology seems to be worsening. Trump is looking increasingly like impersonator Anthony Atamanuik who would play Trump in sketches on comedy central. Toward the end of the sketch, Trump would usually end up completely mentally unhinged, such as going into a rage or having a nervous breakdown, and dragged away like a toddler by White House personnel. Those sketches which were done in the first year of Trump's administration seemed off-the-wall, but now they are looking increasingly more predictive of Trump's behavior when he is faced with crises where he no longer has the control he did in his non-political life.
The democrats could nominate Barney the Dinosaur and win, which is why they'll look for a relative unknown.
