We'll soon find out the hard way (not you, since you live in Australia, but us Americans) just how much government can affect the economy. The trade war is taking its toll, and it hasn't really gotten underway yet. Ronald Reagan badly crippled the labor unions in the U.S., and with it the American middle class, and created the income gap that is at the root of the "political divisiveness" we read about from the pundits. As for blacks, there has been enormous progress in the situation for African-Americans in my country. Until the the 1960s they were living under formal segregation; since then, thanks to the Civil Rights Movement,we have a thriving black middle class. Yes, there is also an underclass and a white backlash to contend with, but politics has been a pathway to progress for them--Republican and Prager U. propaganda to the contrary.

I read something about tariffs yesterday or the day before; I forget which but it's beside the point. The article said that the last batch of tariffs, while detrimental to soy crops and other agriculture, haven't really been on the consumer's radar. But the next wave will be on cellular phones, laptops, stuff like that. You can bet people will notice, and they're not going to like it.

I remember going into a local electronics superstore and not finding the travel (Europe/US) adaptor I needed. The employee explained that those haven't been stocked because of the trade war, and also that batteries of some kind or other hadn't been stocked in about a month because they are from China too.

I have no doubt Trump can get re-elected. I fear he will. The solution is to get rid of Mitch McConnell. As long as the Grim Reaper controls the Senate, he will continue to obstruct laws passed by the House of Representatives no matter who is elected to the oval office. Unfortunately, it is up to the voters in my home state to oust him and that is not likely to happen. Republicans would vote for a turnip if it prayed to Jesus and carried a gun. Democrats are too lazy to go to the polls even if we did have a qualified candidate, which we don't. So, sorry America. I am sad to see our Constitution burned and democracy fail.

With McConnell gone and Trump re-elected for life, Democrats can proceed with impeachment. After all, Nixon was impeached in his second term. My dream is to see McConnell gone, Trump arrested, convicted and jailed along with Junior, Eric, Ivanca and Jarred. Pipe dream.

Which is exactly how you will always get stuck banging your head against the wall.

Reagan didnt kill the unions, Globalization did

When it comes to protectionism and tariffs Trump is attempting the exact opposite of what Reagan did. But because they are both Republicans you have to try find fault with both.

You and many here, are more interested in frothing at the mouth at the chance to attack a Republican, your personal feelings moreso than addressing reality

Anecdotal stories about how the trade war has hit because one of you had trouble buying a travel adaptor not made in the USA dont mean anything if your unemployment rate stays low and your growth rate stays high compared to the rest of the world

Its going to work, there may be a 6 month lag, but its going to work, because all you have to do is find somewhere besides China to make those cheap travel adaptors

  6. And in that time we can have a few more tropical storms, some cop shootings, a couple of Hollywood pedo-creeps, Around 2,200 congressional subpoenas for Trump's employees, Bernie out, Biden in, Warren plays sexism card, Trump tweets stuff that makes democrats get the vapors and Pizza Hut brings back the Priazzo!

Anything happening today, will be old news.

By that logic no law or goverment would have ever existed. With no motives for social progress or structure we would just kill anyone not related to us. Bitching about people bitching is fairly useless too right?

Who is more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?

That simply is not true. While I will not comment on Trump's motives, which may not be all that pure, it was part of a DoJ investigation. As such, Trump had every right to ask a favor of a foreign leader. Would Trump benefit if Biden becomes the nominee? I suppose. But corruption of the sort that the Bidens engaged may have engaged in deserves careful monitoring by authorities. It in the interests of the United States to ensure that politicians do not enrich themselves or their families, at least not illegally.

Why is that so difficult for you to understand?

You keep saying this but no formal DoJ investigation has been opened that I can find. Perhaps you could provide a source?

And if this was part of an official investigation, why did Trump hide all evidence of his conversations with Ukraine on a private server intended for information classified for national security purposes only?

Well I have spent ten minutes looking for it. I am fairly confident I read that in WSJ, a source I consider reliable. However, after doing a search on it, I may have confused it with the Russia probe into the 2016 election. If I did, good catch on your part.

This is not what I was looking for on WSJ, but it is highly suggestive (it's behind a paywall)
Barr Seeking Foreign Help on Origins of Russia Probe

    It says:

"Mr. Trump pressed his Ukranian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky to work with his personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, and Mr. Barr on an investigation of Democratic rival Joe Biden."

So this indicates the AG is involved, although it may not have risen to the level of a formal investigation. However, Barr would be involved as part of his official duties, unlike Giuliani, who, of course, works only for Trump.

I do find it infuriating that people who have no concern about Hillary and Co. paying for dirt on Trump during the campaign- and the FBI acting on that fabrication- seem so intent on crucifying Trump for making a request of another foreign leader. Biden telling the president of Ukraine "you won't get the money" unless you fire a prosecutor looking at my son- nope, nothing to worry about. Sorry, it stinks!

So why is Trump in office... Enriching himself and his family is the only thing he has accomplished.

Oh, how has Trump's family benefited financially due to any improper action by Trump? Any board memberships of foreign companies (to the tune of $600K per year) whose business the family member knows nothing about?

I sure the hell hope so, soon, and send his nasty ass to jail with his family as well.

There hasn't been a bigger piece of shit in the White House. Ever.

A complete embarrassment, a national tragedy, and frankly I hope he dies soon.

That's my opinion. Like it or not.

Go ahead and tell me I am a shithead, stupid and don't know what I am talking about. I'm used to that.

And furthermore, now that you got my blood boiling!

    From today's Daily Beast:

    SCENES FROM A MELTDOWN
Trump Is Going to Burn Down Everything and Everyone, and Republicans, That Means You

That press conference was terrifying. And congressional Republicans should be more afraid than anyone. Trump’s going down and taking them with him.

Donald Trump’s Oval Office performance-art masterpiece Wednesday was one for the ages, a pity-party, stompy-foot screech session by President Snowflake von Pissypants, the most put-upon man ever to hold the highest office in the land. If you watched his nationally televised press conference, Trump’s shrill, eye-popping hissy fit scanned like the end of a long, coke-fueled bender where the itchy, frenzied paranoia is dry-humping the last ragged gasps of the earlier party-powder fun.

Between calling Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) a panoply of Trumpish insults (and for the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee to be held for treason), engaging in his usual hatred of the press, talking about Mike Pompeo’s intimate undergarments, and quite obviously scaring the shit out of Finnish President Sauli Niinisto—who looked like he was the very unwilling star of an ISIS hostage video—Trump spent the day rapidly decompensating, and it was a hideous spectacle. All the Maximum Leader pronunciamentos won’t change the reality that Donald John Trump, 45th president of the United States, has lost his shit.

In private, Republicans are in the deepest despair of the Trump era. They’ve got that hang-dog, dick-in-the-dirt fatalism of men destined to die in a meaningless battle in a pointless war. They’ve abandoned all pretense of recapturing the House, their political fortunes in the states are crashing and burning, and the stock-market bubble they kept up as a shield against the downsides of Trump—“but muh 401(k)!”—is popping.

I don't think you're a shithead, but to me the interesting question in all this mess is this: how will the Democrats fuck up this perfect opportunity. Cause they will. Trump could walk up to Nancy Pelosi, hand her a knife, guide her knife wielding hand to his jugular vein and somehow she'd still miss.

I wish there were a way to ignore what's going on, for my own sanity if for nothing else. But it's like passing the scene of a car crash...I involuntarily look even though I know I shouldn't.

You've said nothing other than bloviate. Trump is a jerk- I will grant that. That's not particularly important. The important question is is he good for America. On balance, I'd say he is. At least much better than the major alternative we had in 2016

FWIW, you don't come off so hot either.

Just think about that for a second, as you only really got that part from the media

Its a private server, but its a government server????

Intended for classified information only - none of you know the specifics of how that all operates.

And It certainly wouldnt have been Trump himself. And the details of the phone call were released anyway.

That part doesnt really mean anything, some one close to him moved it to a secure server so a bunch of pinheads could look it all over before it gets handed to the press in case part of it does give away something top secret.

Hillary did the reverse, private email for sensitive information.

No one expects people like Hillary or Trump to be computer experts or remember the finer details of the classification rules

Trump did leak a source when he first took office with the ISIS exploding laptops thing, but it was a fumble. No one really expects him or any politician to be an expert in counter intelligence a month into office
