That's fine that you explain certain things, I'm addressing those certain things and explaining the logical inconsistencies. You brought up a charge against a whole group of people and it's fair to explore those ideas further.

I've seen you ask others on here to defend their statements about particular populations many times, me pouncing on this is no different than when you do it on other topics, other than that I'm asking us to utilize deductive reasoning and stuff.

 

I feel like people who have a major problem with God are just looking for a way to excuse their bad behavior. They don't like the idea that their bad behavior has any ramifications. And yes, I am in particular thinking of gb here. They want their yummy cake and to eat their yum yum delectable cake, too. I'll be nice one day and a shithead the next, and it's all justified because there is no God. I'm simply a human being, and human beings can be all kinds of nasty.

They don't actually have to live day-to-day with the knowledge that there is something bigger than them that knows exactly what they're doing. And, in short, they're not morally upstanding people. Which may be the biggest reason for believing in God, the fact that true believers actually are morally upstanding people. People who do it day-in, day-out. People who forgive, essentially. There is no room in an atheist for forgiveness.

Andy, I don't think VG would tease you like that, and I do see it as teasing, if he disliked you. That is why I haven't bothered making a comment on it. Sometimes, also, it feels patronizing to jump in and defend someone too quickly, like, assuming they can't take care of themselves or something.

And how are you defining "objective" here?

Because I think one could easily and correctly take the position that there is objective meaning in pursuing science and knowledge to better our lives and explore the cosmos.

 

I didn't say that all atheists thought this.

And only humans do science so that cannot be the objective purpose to life and the universe.

Even though there is only so much that can be said about a teenager who campaigns about climate change, some members seem upset by the lack of on topic posting, so I'm not going to answer this. Also, I have told you before what I believe. I'm not going to debate it. You didn't respond to it, so I'm assuming you accept I made no charge against atheists as a group. I wouldnt have even said it if I had known Mel identifies as atheist, I did not, so I did not understand her statement. Now I know she does, and I do.
