To loosely tie this challenge of deriving understanding based on faith into Greta and Climate Change, when she is pressuring councils, corporations and governments to look at the Science and IPCC reports, what urgency is placed on them to act if they have faith that the available evidence is not sufficient and doesn't tell the whole picture and therefore we cannot definitively conclude climate change is a human-made problem? or that it exists at all?

I recognize there are other variables to consider which may make her position seem a bit naive but I'm prompting these questions from a purely ideological standpoint.

The science based evidence on climate change is overwhelming. Every day millions of people take medications with far less evidence of their effectiveness but people think that evidence is sufficient. Were it not for billions in fossil fuel dollars, weird theories and political crackpots the climate change deniers would long ago have been placed in the dust bin of history. We all owe Greta a heartfelt thank you.

I said it on facebook, with the media circus surrounding Trump, it only makes sense to me that all Gretas frowns and tantrums were snapped by photographers due to the proposition that she was asked to do so. Nobody likes the guy yet the internet has not blown up with photos like this until now, so she's clearly being used as a political pawn. She's been told to go out the and make the faces, scrunch her face up Etc. Just to get it out there, as if she's some jedi rebellion. Look how disgusted I am in the President, people will see this and follow.

I've also read she doesn't even understand the science she talks about when talking about climate control. No real surprise there though.

You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows. You don't need to be a climate scientist to know we're fucked.

Well this isn't like the never ending story, and I'm sorry to say, our future probably doesn't stand on the foundations of knowing we're fucked. Now before any of you start with me, I never said she wasn't a good figure or doing well, this is just my observations and what I've read. I just think if she doesn't actually know what she's talking about, maybe she should learn and then public speak. Until then it's like putting your child out there to try and make a difference which seems to be a common occurrence these days. In a world where nobody listens, kids seem to be the outlet especially for a media circus.

The flip side to this is that we have to admit that evil people will go completely unpunished, in an afterlife anyways. The kinds of Christians found where I live like to believe that their enemies will suffer eternal punishment with no possibility of reprieve. I find that kind of sick.

  9. I personally believe you face the demons you create. I don't know if they're real or just illusions, though. But sometimes, after smoking a cigarette, I can actually see them. The scowling faces, like zombies. And that's just smoking a cigarette. My dad had a lot of problems, but he was basically honest, and before he died, he actually had a vision while shopping in the grocery store, of basically a corpse turning around and greeting him. Not that atheists have any more demons than the rest of us. You can be a good atheist. But your choices really do form in the subconscious, and, whether illusion or real, when you make that leap into the subconscious, just like a dream, they are going to seem as real as can be to you.

I'm not sure what the Buddhists would call this, if they have a word for it. It's just something I believe about the subconscious. I believe everyone knows right from wrong, though they may not care. But after all this, yes, I do believe that creation is bigger than this, and takes everyone along for the ride. And I ultimately think everyone will have to take this journey through a darker realm, which may seem exactly like you're going to hell at the point of death. I don't believe it lasts, though.

I haven't done much wrong, but I know I have to face my demons when I die, just because I blow things out of proportion. What may seem like nothing to you seems like a monster to me. I can barely justify anything.

Also I think, regardless of whether God (whatever you want to call it) greets us all as friends in the end, that's kind of the point. To be forgiven, despite all of your wrongdoings. And then to take a look at your own life in the here and now, and all of the grudges you hold and all of the judgments you make. I think God, as a general concept rather than a concrete religious ideology, just kind of reminds people to treat each other well. Precisely because of the point that you are forgiven. Other people don't understand. It's the concept that there is something that does understand, and knows well enough to forgive you, that changes people.

I'm not even asking for atheists to believe in God, per se, but to at least consider spirituality. The subconscious doesn't exist for nothing. It isn't just nightmares we have in dreams, and then we get to continue being schmucks in our daily lives. It is very much a real place. That's my opinion.

Extinction Rebellion protesters spark fight, arrests on London transit

People here get irate when someone jams up the trolley doors for a couple minutes wheeling their bags in. I can't imagine.

Seems like these particular protesters are barking up the wrong tree.

The truth hurts for a reason, and there can be no denying the only reason little Greta has gotten so much attention, is because she is so young. For her efforts, I would not doubt for a second that she receives death threats all the time. So-called "civilized" people can be as savage and cannibalistic as anyone, and would gladly nail Jesus to the cross again and order extra butter on their popcorn.

There is nothing there to jump to the conclusion these people are mad at Greta, although I'm not disputing some might be, they are mad at people who may be influenced by her, acting out in an inconsiderate and uncivilized manner themselves.

Bullshit, she's a little girl that the right wing media has painted as a spoiled child, and that internet trolls spend endless time lambasting. Seriously, there would not be a thread here at all on her if she were not controversial. Either you are an expert at lying to yourself or to others.

This kid has been brainwashed by either her parents or the media or whoever.
Whatever way the cash will be rolling in for her and her family so the incentive for her to keep this up is there for all to see.
This is now her lifetime career.
This climate change stuff is a multi billion dollar/pounds cash cow for big business and thousands of people with their snouts in the trough.
The whole lot of them make me sick!:rage:
