I've come to believe that the monuments should be left where they are. Plaques should be added in front of such monuments to explain to visitors exactly what these people did, and what they stood for.

 

I think he's got a point about slavery without being racist. From the dawn of time humans have enslaved one another and been subjected to doctrines of slavery which is readily recorded and established from the ancient times. This is something humans have somewhat perfected in a way. It is one of our long standing attributions to our lives. It is deeply rooted in our characteristical traits as humans still working to this day, while you even see yourself as a free person, you're life is entangled in a slave doctrine and the majority are too blind to see it.

It's just a very modern view to label slavery as racist, and tbh that's a perfect example of indoctrinated rubbish people live by.

There were plenty of "Good Christians" in the South that thought slavery was just fine, God's will even. Don't think that your interpretation of what it means to be a Christian is the only one. I've met too many Christians whose necks I would enjoy breaking.

 

You're looking at slavery in terms of actual racism and color though. What about the black Africans that esnslaved black Africans, or Egyptians who enslaved other egyptians. Hardly worth trying to argue the foundations of racism against 2 of the same people.

On the other hand, it wouldn't surprise me at all that people would think that these days.
