    Well shit...

It looks like we're outnumbered. Those in favor of free speech outnumber those against racist humor. I guess we'll have to get used to it.

I just think that it's so simple to appreciate how the opinions that make a racial joke possible are invalid! They are offensive. They are insulting. I don't see why that's so funny!

I guess if you're into insults... But I don't think that African-American are. If you've never been a minority, just know... it sucks when you're the butt of the joke or you're the one termed the "n" word or other epithet.

I don't think that there's anything cool about it. It's repugnant and we should do all we can to make it known that it's not ok with us. It doesn't fly.

  3. Free speech is more important than hurting someones feelings. People need a back bone.
Call me a cracker or snow white. I don't care.

Well, no. That's not the essence of the free speech that I hold in regard.

In this country, we can speak freely. We can talk about the issues. We can take sides in politics. We report the news accurately and without threat of retaliation. That is free speech.

Hate speech is arguably not. Though protected, hate speech is derogatory!

It's not ok to make it your business to crack jokes about somebody's misfortune. It's against the values we aspire to instill in our families. It violate our morals and disregards ethical standards.

We call things that do not adhere to normalcy "deviant". So, why is your deviation protected? It's a fair question...

Also, racists have their head up there ass. Change my mind.

  5. Freedom of speech means you can say whatever you want regardless of hurting someones feelings and that's just the truth.

It may not be morally okay to crack jokes at people's misfortunes but we have a right to do so. Morals and values are subjective and not everyone will agree with each other. Such is life.

Rights be damned! You can't have right to circumvent someone else's rights! That's ridiculous. And that's the flaw. You're young and that's ok. but I think that young people should learn that just because there is a flaw, doesn't mean you should exploit it...

It's absolutely insulting to make a joke about someone's race.

People who do it, regardless of rights, are wrong! It's just not okay.

And I'm glad you see it's not morally ok. You've got a leg up on Southpark… ;)

Morals and values are the bonds that bind us together. We should try to establish common ground there. SO... we don't agree about race? Why not?

People want to challenge that norm all the time and I don't understand why. It's impolite and uncivilized to have these negative opinions about different races.

Racism is largely oral tradition. Someone in the family shares a racist opinion. A young person picks up on it. Or not even in the family. Someone at school; maybe someone popular says something negative. Maybe a comment about Hispanic people, or African-Americans. Probably even a joke, like with the wrestling announcer.

it's when this happens that racism is perpetuated. People have to learn that that is the time to stand up and say that's not right! I can't think of anything less American that sharing that sort of disgusting epithet.

I just mentioned South Park. Those cartoons are responsible for perpetuation relaxed attitudes about race.

The way they talk about race, you would think that most people don't care. That's the problem, because I can tell you minorities do care.

I'm saying it's problematic. Are they funny? The cartoons are funny with regularity. They make you laugh and then they add something inappropriate. That puts a racist spin on it, and it's not ok, and it ceases to be funny because of the repercussions.

so you're standing for what? Racism?

That's nothing to stand for. My friend, stand up and shout! You've been had if you think that you're supposed to be stomping your feet for the privilege to talk downwardly about someone's heritage - their very ethos - who they are!

It's no laughing matter. Be certain!

Is this like WWE type of wrestling??? If it is, its just for show. No much different than watching a movie. They are just actors acting doesn't mean they are their act. Shouldn't be watching it if you take it too personally.

I'm not racist but do make racial jokes at times. Even about my own race. I keep that off the forums because some will take it too personally. I keep it light and still some how offend a few. Imagine if i let loose more.

  13. Racism, and any other form of harassment is not freedom of speech.
Imagine somebody started harrassing you over the size of your dick.
    It's not on.

  14. Incorrect.
The only way you can have freedom of speech is to speak freely about anything regardless if it is hurtful or racist.
I don't care if someone was talking about the size of my penis, haha! There is more to life than the size of my penis.

@CloudyMushroom I'm not going to agree with you on this. Racism is bad and I feel like in order to combat racism, you need to know that and first and foremost acknowledge that.

You were lied to man. Whoever told you in whatever way that racism was in some ways part of having your freedom trampled all over your right to be free. I think you should be able to express yourself - yes, you! - without that threat; that foreboding judgment hanging over your head.

I think that racism gets inside you and makes you into a tool to promote it. It's not fair. I have had racist encounters before and I sort of understand how it works.

But I think you're better, and smarter than that.

  18. I don't think racism is right but people can say whatever they want to say. It's not freedom of speech if you try to stifle what someone says regardless of how you feel about it.

    We can agree to disagree.
