It's weird the way we hang on to some traditions when it comes to voting. Most of this was defined in the 19th century. Changes are very slow to implement because Washington is dreadfully slow in the admin department. And also because our politicians LOVE "records" which become meaningless with each change. So they bank on status quo. All of them.

 

I think that's a pretty blatant mischaracterization. White privilege - like walking down the street in suburbia, or shopping in a nice grocery store, stuff like that - is a reality.

post script: I have an excerpt (or 5 million...) from my sociology of race and ethnicity (I forget the actual name of the course but it's along those lines) course in college a year or more ago now.

I don't see what's so bigoted either. Some white folks would gain insight in discrimination in the US if they experienced normal life for awhile through the eyes of someone who's part of an ethnic minority. Seems a fair assertion.

Now that I'm hearing politicians like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren (and almost everybody else too) talk about the programs people dream about and that the things we learn about in sociology that Nordic countries have that make their residents so much happier than we are and the difference in spending on healthcare and the covered tuition/debt forgiveness etc. I want those things! I don't want to go with the status quo ever again!
