I was 18 in 2003 and just becoming politically aware. And politics during that era were actually affecting my generation because several people from my class joined the military right after graduation to fight in Iraq. My boyfriend at the time was in the army reserves and deployed to Iraq in '04 so it all seemed very personal to me. You can be interested in politics and still do typical young people things as well. It isnt an either/or situation.
So you're saying I'm not acting age appropriate? Politics should be left to you geezers? But that's the problem with the world--too many people (especially millennials) in the bars while the geezers run their lives, not enough watching impeachment hearings! Besides, I don't drink, and not interested in computer games. Actually, you're what? In your late 40s, and still looking for a life? I'm married with four kids. Don't go out to the bars much these days. Stargates,PS2, WoW, Raves? Foll-de-roll and fiddly fap!
Well, your basic argument is because I think you are all a bunch of drama queens when it comes to Donald J Trump, I am "still looking for a life" The Donald is aquitted, nothing of any consequence on this subject is going to happen until November. If you have 4 kids, go play with your kids
And all that Bush/Cheney stuff was all way crazier than anything the Donald has done. Two wars, a couple hundred thousand Iraqis dead, how ever many US soldiers dead or mamed But oh no, The Donald calls a few shithole countries; shithole countries and he is Satan? It's nuts
They're dangerous in different ways. The Bush-Cheney team of neo-cons had an imperial vision they were willing to compromise our national interest for. The Trump menace is different--lawlessness, corruption, collaboration with our enemies, undermining of our democratic institutions, undermining of our character and moral values. Satan isn't a bad metaphor.
That's not the issue. The issue is when certain folks are trolling in order to trigger and annoy it has little to do with conveying an opinion. And when they do it to trigger and annoy, and falsely put it is solely done 'in good fun' that's simply nasty. The consequence is that people refuse to take them serious or invest time in a proper refutal because we all know which route the troll is gonna take in reaction. Another point: you basically contradict yourself to a nonsensical degree with s uch a reaction: You expressed your annoyance about several libruls on here keep taking a person like 6-eyed shaman seriously and how problematic the polarisation affects several things, including convos on here. But this is for a large part caused by charging and polarizing trolls like 6-eyed and VG, and triggered folks like stormountainman.
Body counts vs. spiritual fatalities and moral corrosion of our institutions and values is an apples and oranges comparison. Trump is now unleashed. See what he does next, and what becomes of us as a nation. The results could be biblical! He used the prayer breakfast to sow hate and division. Seems to me a house that's rotten at its foundations is in danger, regardless of how comfy it might seem at the moment. While you sit back in Australia with your popcorn and watch and comment from the peanut gallery, we're the ones who suffer on the front lines.
Well that's not exactly true, the Trump administration has continued what the Bush administration started in the middle east. They've dropped around 7000 bombs in Afghanistan since Trump took office. You dont really see a big change in US foreign policy as presidents change. But overall I agree with your sentiment and hate how a lot of Democrats act like Bush is okay now in comparison with Trump. But Okie's also right, Trump is dangerous in a different way
No, I think Trumpism is something very new--for this country. Bush-Cheney gave us two on-going wars, torture, and a major recession--quite remarkable for one administration! Trump attacks the institutional and moral foundations of our country. We've seen how this goes in other countries, but not here before!
The gates are indeed impressive, but they are a bottleneck for moving the kinds of troops you can move with a massive ship. It's like the Thermopylae pass, they'd be picked off as they emerged.
Interesting. A favorite troll trick. When it looks like a serious discussion of the topic might break out, VG changes the subject to something frivolous and totally off topic. I really think trolls like VG and Six can be useful, if not taken seriously at face value--in providing almost textbooks examples of what logicians call fallacies--in this case, the fallacy of diversion (aka, red herring) . https://www.coursehero.com/file/10467177/Fallacies-of-Diversion/ Red Herring - Examples and Definition of Red Herring Red Herring "seek to distract away from the main point of the argument into a side issue. - thus the name “diversion,” which means a distraction. - fallacies of diversion are therefore a much more subtle way of going “Look out, an alligator!” when you’re in danger of losing an argument. - because it is easy to grab people’s attention by appealing to their emotions, fallacies of distraction often function by stirring up emotion. - commonly occur in adversarial contexts, meaning when one person is responding to another person’s argument, either by attacking that argument or defending their own position from attack." This seems to be VG's favorite. Stargate, indeed! What a wonderful diversion from "Trump Impeached"!
What I'm wondering is do our republican friends here really think there ought to be no consequence or even no discussion about Trump's behavior and the tone at the top? I mean, what does this sort of leadership reflect about the republican party?
Now that Trump has been impeached, do we need a new thread for the sequel: "Biden Investigated!" ? The team that gave us years of fruitless Whitewater and Benghazi hearings is now gearing up for Bidengate. Senator Chuck Grassley, chair of the Finance Committee, and Senator Ron Johnson, chair of Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, obtained the sensitive financial records as part of an investigation into former vice president Joe Biden’s son’s possible conflicts of interest involving his lucrative position on the board of Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings." The timing is probably not accidental. This time, instead of holding back, the Treasury Department eagerly complied, no subpoenas necessary. No double standard there, cuz, see, its Republicans, and nobody does investigations like Republicans. Tit for tat, and then some! No abuse of government power here, oh, no! Politically motivated? Perish the thought! Remember, all Trump asked the Ukrainian president to do was to announce an investigation of Biden. Mission accomplished!
The republicans know that they probably can't find dirt on Biden, but what they are doing is raising a question of doubt in the voters minds.
A former White House Ethics official is saying that Trump is now free to retaliate against people whom he does not like and that the Senate Republicans as well as William Barr of the DOJ will shield him again. Nixon used the IRS to after journalists like Jack Anderson and now Trump is expected to abuse the several agencies to persecute people on his hit list.
