The cost is high in the US because the US has a middleman and a profit motive, and because healthcare doesnt function correctly within a free market system because people do not have the luxury to shop around in an emergency situation.

And I wouldnt really call the quality of healthcare bad in the US, it isn't. But it doesnt really have better outcomes than countries with universal healthcare, which is an important takeaway
