CBS is providing the first episode of Picard for free on YouTube. I just watched it in fact. I thought it was good, but I won't be buying All Access just to watch one series.

Currency isn't required for necessities on Earth but there are things traded as currency in the galaxy. Gold pressed latinum, for instance.
What about Hookers on earth, you think the federation supplies hookers to whoever wants them? Of course there's stuff traded on earth. It's just one or two lines in various episodes and First Contact that weren't thought out to well implying there is no money in the 24th century
