I provided an example of being white and not being given the presumptive benefit of the doubt. The only difference from these articles as far as I can tell is that it didn't escalate to the point of having the cops called on me but if I decided to stick around, I think it's entirely possible that that could have been the outcome.

I'm not suggesting bigotry doesn't exist, I just think so called white privilege is primarily a function of class status and in a couple of those incidents you posted there were reprecussions on the white people acting out their bigotry resulting in arrest warnings and mental health evaluations.

Is there a way to quantify 'white privilege' so that it can be studied? All I ever hear are anecdotes.

I think the most quantifiable would be the inherent privilege of white people within the criminal justice system compared to minorities. To that effect, this is really comprehensive:

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...nal-justice-system-is-racist-heres-the-proof/

The concept of white privilege encapsulates a lot of little things white people take for granted that cant be quantified. Like Okie brought up black women straightening their hair. I'm so glad in the last decade or so there's been a natural hair movement because natural black hair is gorgeous, but when I was growing up in school none of the black girls had natural hair. They either relaxed it or wore it in braids or wore weaves. Can you imagine going decades of your life without ever just wearing your hair naturally? And now that natural hair is in fashion, I've heard more than one middle aged Karen make a snarky remark about how it looks. So that's an example of the little things white people take for granted and dont ever give a second thought to. Those small things we take for granted is what white privilege is often referring to. Another example is the number of people who look like us on tv, who look like us in politics. Never really being in a room with a group of people and you're the only white person. That sort of thing.

Thanks for the link. And I'm in total agreement that our criminal justice system is biased against black people. Our drug laws in particular are insane; it's hard enough finding a good job, I can't imagine what it must be like with a felony on my record.

I'm not sure about the hair thing. I've seen African-Americans routinely make fun of each other's hair, in high school anyway. But I've heard the stories regarding schools making students cut their hair to participate in sporting events...not cool. I'm a huge fan of hair.

Black people are 12% of the population so this shows they're imprisoned at a rate disproportionate to their population

It also shows that white people comprise most the people in jail, so that's pretty disingenuous to call that "privilege".

You're using statistics dishonestly if you dont consider the rate proportionate to the population.
You genuinely see no issue with black people being 12 % of the population but almost 40% of the prison population?

Read my link above, it's really comprehensive.

I’m such a gentleman I’ll save you the time to dig up that post.

Here’s my source regarding the 40% of Yang voters Yang, Sanders supporters least likely to support any other Democratic presidential nominee, poll says

I was wrong; it’s actually 42% if you see Joy Reid’s tweet.

I’m not saying that all leftists agree with each other on absolutely everything like a hive mind. I’m saying that collectivism is the crux of leftist ideology. Unlike individualism.

We can consider it but it's just one variable, where do you even derive stats from if you don't include the population? That doesn't make any sense.

I just edited my post after you quoted me so I'll add it again here

I see an issue with that but I think it's erroneous to attribute it to white privilege. The asian population percent of the US is about 5x more than the inmate population in that graph, so that would not hold with Asians.

If 'white privilege' is real then the first thing that needs to happen is a new term invented for it. Maybe 'societal bias' or something...assuming that hasn't been taken already. Nothing will make white people more defensive (and less prone to listening) than calling it white privilege. I sometimes wonder if the powers that be like people fighting one another.

I wonder if that holds for second or third generation Asians; American culture has a felonious influence.

Yah I agree, I think it's mostly bad semantics.

But I think there are other nuanced factors to consider with these issues, for instance, I don't know where police headquarters are all located but I would suspect that there is a much more heavily concentrated police presence in inner cities as opposed to out in the boonies where there are trailer parks. This is not to diminish the prevalence of racial profiling but there is a logistical component likely at play as well, which might skew the stats somewhat.
