in response to okiefreak stating falsely
so yes, I just don’t give a fuck what he says. So if you want to talk about respect and integrity, call him out on his so called integrity he must maintain and his so called respectful ways, his so called gold standard as you put it, is rather tarnished! You get respect when you can show it. Respect is earned on an individual basis and not freely given. :). But you get what you give. I believe in that, Do I care what people’s political views are? Nope, don’t care! Do i care about ones beliefs? Nope!

    not an Aussie either.

I don't purport to be a gold standard for anything, but I certainly know the difference between the theory of evolution and the theory of evolution by natural selection. Natural selection, the mechanism Darwin proposed for the process, is still accepted by most evolutionary biologists as the principal way species change comes about: selection acting on genetic variation. What led you to think otherwise?

I think that it is obvious that evolution has existed, but is being usurped by technology because
the human species is so concerned with saving itself from it's own destructive practices, Natural selection should be allowed to run it's own course.

Because there was no original hypothesis, Darwin wasn't really a scientist, his only tertiary qualification was a Bachelor of arts to become a pastor

Here you go, the 1858 submission to the Zoological Journal:

    http://darwin-online.org.uk/content/frameset?itemID=F350&viewtype=text&pageseq=1

Have a read of Darwin's part, he was famous at the time for his travels, and the idea, but it was never presented in a scientific paper with a stated hypothesis

He of course didn't know what genes where, not accepted to this day as he proposed pangenesis Pangenesis - Wikipedia

What you really think you think is the Theory of Evolution by natural selection didn't come about until the 1930s

Modern synthesis (20th century) - Wikipedia

And it still gets reviewed regularly. The idea that all life on earth is related, comes from one tree, is still yet to be proven

And just saying Theory of Evolution would include all theories including creationism

Okay, so I deleted a bunch of junk.
Let's all try being niece to each other.

The evolution thing was an interesting aside, but let's get back to Trump's acquittal in this thread.
Evolution should be addressed in a separate thread, which I'd love to participate in, as I have a few books around here about it.
But, it belongs in the Science forum.

    Carry on!

srgreene, post #433 - I know Republicans drink water and breathe the air - and have kids & grandkids - which is why I'll never understand why so many fall in line behind Trump and make jokes about climate change and the environment. I've heard everyday people (with my own ears!) say it's all a hoax. Fake news, liberal media, etc. 69 degrees in Antarctica a few days ago, and in the 60's for a few days before that. HUGE sections of ice breaking off Antarctic glaciers regularly. Environmental scientists say if that one glacier continues to melt like it has been, the world's sea levels will rise 4 feet. 4 FEET !!! Lots of shore properties will be underwater & coastal cities will be in ruins. Miami, Houston, Baltimore, L.A., S.F., N.Y., Boston, and all beach towns will all be in water.

Even the U.A.E. is switching to solar and nuclear to get off of oil and other fossil fuels, and they're the 3rd largest OPEC producer of oil. So just HOW BACKWARD is the U.S. currently in our thinking?? Millions of jobs could be created if we switched to more solar, wind and nuclear power, and these don't pollute. But Trump sees coal & oil as the future. The power companies THEMSELVES are moving away from fossil fuels. Natural gas is cleaner, but it's still a fossil fuel from underground where it would remain undisturbed and harmless - until we extract it and burn it. Burning anything creates carbon dioxide. It's nature & chemistry/physics. Solar, wind, and nuclear don't pollute the air with carbon dioxide - a greenhouse gas. I've worked building several nuclear power plants, so I know how they operate. They all have redundant control systems ever since TMI, so that scenario won't happen again. I live near one and have no worries at all.

If the insurance companies are raising premiums for all coastal properties because of rising sea levels - are we to assume it's just folly on their parts?? Or do they, in fact, believe that things are changing rapidly and have to face some big payouts in the not-to-distant future?? Even our military has plans to move bases because of the ocean's encroachment. Are THEY just making a political statement or is it real?? Does the military act on whims??

Groundwater pollution is not from Johnny and Suzy throwing their McDonald's cups out the car window. It's from industrial chemicals and agricultural pesticide/herbicide pollution. They ought to pay for the cleanups - NOT TAXPAYERS!!! We didn't dispose of those chemicals improperly - THEY did.

Who'll be first to say it's all a hoax, fake news, liberal media, etc. ……………….. until you find dangerous chemicals in YOUR drinking water. For all those that think "big government" is all evil and must be eliminated ....……….. handle that situation and clean up the groundwater YOURSELF - you rugged individualists.

This may end up being something that our country my never be able to come back from. It goes to show you what one side will go to to protect there side and forget what it does to the country and forget the constitution and the laws. It does go to show how inept our government over site really is. And everyone that follows this president will know just how far they can push things. God help us all.

And now he'll be completely unbridled, and unhinged! Dictatorship, here we come--especially if the Dems lose the Senate, which would be likely if a certain front runner becomes the candidate!

I think we'll make a comeback, but not until the president is out of office. Right now it feels like we can't trust Congress.

Serious question for Trump supporters... do you think that if Trump was a liberal democrat, the senate would have handled the whole thing differently?

The election is critical to the future not only of this country but of the world. If Trump wins we're fucked, it would give him a YUGE mandate. He'll do as he pleases and feel that we can kiss his bloated orange ass.

Also need to vote as many Republicans out of office as we can, they're members of the Trump Cult. If the Dems can take the Senate and keep the House then at least we'll have a way of keeping Trump somewhat in line if heaven forbid he gets re-elected. Then his next impeachment would result in removal.

what Trump and his supporters don't seem to get is that it also gives the next democrat a yuge mandate
