The first place we lose the battle is in our own thinking. If you think it is permanent then it's permanent. If you think you've reached your limits then you have. If you think you will never get well then you won't. You have to change your thinking. You need to see everything that's holding you back, every obstacle, every limitation as only temporary.
Today their came to me the conviction that I, or rather the best, perhaps only good part in me, that is music, has perished forever. My future life seems a mere vegetable existence. From a letter written by Tchaikovsky at the lowest point of his depression. He went on to write his 6th symphony and wrote "pathetique" (pathetic) on the score. It was his only named orchestral work, except Manfred, a symphonic poem based on Byron's poem of the same name.
It strikes me that their is a very deep feeling and artistic person hiding under your light hearted facade. Did I ever send you a video of Manfred from the Proms.?
Some of Tchaikovsky's lesser known works are among his best. Few people even know that he wrote 11 operas. It annoys me when the BBC (and plenty of other people) class Manfred as a symphony. It is a symphonic poem, based on Byron's work. I must remember to send the BBC a list of his opus numbers. LOL. Have a quick listen from 57:00, through to the end. That moment at 58:20 is unbelievable as the entire hall resounds. In the late 50's, Professor Parkin installed his famous mushrooms to improve the orchestral resonance from the dome, but it destroyed the organ reverb time. Prior to this performance, the organ was re-calibrated to compensate. No recording can do justice to how it sounds from the auditorium.
