Best not go to Tenerife methinks!

Foreign Office has 'no plans' to fly British tourists home from Tenerife | Daily Mail Online

Dozens of British tourists have been cleared to leave a hotel in Spain's Canary Islands that was on lockdown over the coronavirus - but 118 have been told they have to stay in quarantine.

The guests at Tenerife's H10 Costa Adeje Palace Hotel have spent three days in isolation after the coronavirus was detected there in four Italian tourists.

Sources said that 50 of the 168 Britons currently held on the site are free to leave the hotel. But it is not clear at this stage if the newly released Brits will choose to leave the island, or if they will be allowed to return to the UK.

The move appears to have caught the Foreign Office off-guard, who just hours earlier insisted there were no plans to bring trapped tourists back to the UK.

Those who can leave are understood to have arrived on Monday, after the guests who were diagnosed had already left.

Overall, 130 guests from 11 countries have been told they can leave by Spanish authorities.

A statement from the Foreign Office said: 'We are urgently seeking clarification from the Canary Island authorities following their announcement that 130 tourists of different nationalities will be granted permission to leave the Costa Adeje Palace Hotel.

'We continue to offer support to all British nationals at the hotel.'

You should stay, but sort of go. you can look into a deserted island, or an almost deserted one. Go to Portsmouth and take a ferry to sark island. A cool place. There are no cars on the island, so you could get a Horse and buggy to take you to your hotel. Plenty of good places to eat and you can bike ride anywhere and everywhere without the worry of being his by a car,

Just another scare tactic for the medical industry to make more money.

Pretty much every headline on facebook is world leaders asking the population to "prepare for a pandemic" what that basically means in political jargon is "spend your money on government institutions and you'll be healthy, k Thx"

And the canadian numbers are way off ... they are way higher than what that map says, over 76 cases in the province of Manitoba Canada. More than that in Ontario and quebec

Thing is though that Sark Island will likely be as ruddy cold and wet and windy as the rest of the UK.

Coronavirus hits Oxford University: Student tests positive for deadly bug | Daily Mail Online

Britain's coronavirus cases shoot to 273 with 64 new patients, including Oxford University student, diagnosed in just 24 hours -after experts warned UK death toll could reach 100,000
    • Department of Health and Social Care this afternoon announced a further 64 cases of coronavirus in the UK
    • This is the highest daily rise in cases of the virus since the first was confirmed in January this year
    • Oxford student is believed to have self-isolated as soon as they had symptoms and is being offered 'support'
    • Hazmat team has also been pictured going into halls at Edinburgh University last night

    Published: 07:57, 8 March 2020 | Updated: 19:41, 8 March 2020.

A total of 273 people in the UK have now tested positive for the coronavirus as of 9am this morning.

The Department of Health and Social Care this afternoon announced the rise of 64 cases.

It comes as a student at Oxford University tested positive for the coronavirus after returning from overseas travel.

Public Health England confirmed the case to the university yesterday and the Vice-Chancellor informed staff in an internal email seen by the MailOnline.

In the email Professor Louise Richardson claimed she was 'constrained as to what she could say' but was 'glad to report' that the student self-isolated as soon as they developed symptoms and did not attend university or college events after they fell ill.

So far in the UK there have been 273 confirmed cases of the disease and two deaths, two more cases were confirmed in Wales this morning.

In Scotland 1957 tests concluded 1939 cases were negative and 18 were positive.
