well it isn’t the way it is in North America. It is rude to go out while infected, wearing a mask. If you want to do it in China, fine, if you do it in North America it means you are sick or are working in a hospital to the people. Nurses don’t wear masks outside that environment, neither do doctors. If she is not sick then she shouldn’t be wasting good medical supplies to jog, either way you look at it, it is wrong in North America, to the people for the most part. You can expect people to assume things here when you do it. This is not racism, To people here it is common sense. Mask means you are looking to not spread what you have, to the people. Do you wear a mask when you go out?

No people like yourself have made me far too self conscious about doing that. I'm with Melilai. This post kinda just slammed all positive momentum to a halt. So congrats on that I guess

If this includes italian Americans I am with you. My sister from another mister and her whole family are basically my 2nd family and they are Italian. Every year on my birthday her mom makes me stuffed manicotti and tiramisu to go along with my mom's karaage and matcha mochi. Ah, multi culturalism... it just tastes so good :)

well, I didn’t think you wore one, I personally wonder if you ever wore one. Kind of think not. You were raised in a society that thinks differently regarding masks. Over the last 20 years masks have become a common practice in japan, prior to that it was not like this, and it is still growing. The wearing of It isn’t neccessarily about germs either in Japan. After your parents left. Doubt your parents arrived in masks as well or it being a part of Japanese culture universally.

I know someone who taught there for the last 20 years, he use to only have a few students who wore them, over time this has become more and more common.

so sure, blame Americans for you not wearing one. Your parents most likely didn’t either.

well then put on your mask that you don’t wear, and that your parents didn’t wear when they lived there. Lol

I thought Bagel was an American. And even if she's not she and anyone else here can wear any damn thing they want...even MAGA hats.

If I was dictator I'd make some people wear ball gags to cut down on auditory pollution.

This is such a weird thing to make an issue out of

    That seems horribly grammatically incorrect

In which to make an issue?

well I think of her as American. *shrug* seems she thinks of herself as Japanese.

she seems to think people in Japan wear masks because of germs. The mask was not commonplace when her parents moved. It has become more widespread over the last 20 years. With this virus, people have gone crazy for the masks, which are useless for protection.

Why do Japanese people wear masks? A look behind a cultural quirk
