That's correct early on president trump didn't call it a hoax, he said "there are currently 15 cases in the US, and soon there will be none"
'when the weather gets warm in April, it will all go away"

There are currently 19,640 cases in the U.S. and 264 deaths - a prognosticator he is not….lol…

  2. With a population approaching 350 million (I'm counting illegal and legal aliens as well) it's a miracle there are so few cases. We would be swimming in the stuff if we had taken China's advice.

Exactly, that was my point, no intention on the part of China, so why are you so down on China?

They responded much better than the U.S., Italy, and others have.

They warned the world and the majority of the world ignored them.

Race was brought up in this thread.
You claimed that a nationality isn't a race and that the Chinese people don't constitute a race.
I pointed out that Chinese, or Mexican can be considered a race depending on the definition.
According to Article 1 of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, racism pertains to race, color, descent, national, or ethnic origin:
China, Mexico, Spain, and Ireland are nations which contain many people of color, certain descent, and ethical origin.

You claimed that the Chinese, Spanish, Irish or Mexican people can not be considered a race. I pointed out that they can be...and are in certain situations.
Trump and others insistence on calling the coronavirus the China virus is racist just as calling an Irishman a "Mick" or "Bog Trotter" is also racist.

  5. No it is not. It's not the same thing at all. The disease follows where it's from, this is not a new idea. Calling it racist, is just the latest version of the abuse of that term. Which has become more and more popular in the last decade.

You're using an ethnic slur as your example. Calling it a Chinese Virus is not an ethnic slur, it's just protocol. And it's not even close to being "racism", so put it back in the deck already.

  6. Because they lied about how bad it was at a time when we could have prevented global deaths. It has nothing at all to do with their "race" or ethnicity. This is all about ethics.

  8. Hard to say, he was reacting to what the WHO was telling him. Which is really stupid when you see how well the WHO covered for China. The latest whopper is that there are no longer any cases in Wuhan. It's likely they will have cases there for months to come, as we will see in the US and Europe as well. Oddly enough, the Russians seem to be handling it better than I'd expect. QPQ maybe?

For this I'd say he was stupid, for propagating someone else's lie. He'd have to be far more informed for it to be a genuine lie on his part. And I doubt his talents when it comes to virology and such.

What's really sad is the way the Italian government lied to their people, to avoid "racism". Even suggesting that everyone needed to "hug" a Chinese person. Madness.

Yes, this is very true. However, the last I checked, $1 more than $0 is still a gain.

We are about to enter an era where gas prices are 1980ish, farmers and truckers are the top of the food chain, and stocks (outside of health care and tech) are useless to trade.

As I recall from my biology courses back in the day, there were two genders. Times they are a changin'. In popular parlance, the term "race" is bandied about to describe any ethnic differences that are associated, however loosely, with physical or even cultural characteristics. Islamaphobia, for example, is, for all practical purposes, racism, even though Muslims are certainly not a race, because the collective hatred of an entire large category of people because of the perceived failings of some is just as bigoted, and distinguishing between racism and religious bigotry in ordinary conversation is too technical for some of us to handle. Are Jews a race? Anthropologists say No. But they're sure treated like one!

Going to agree with WP again. It's like German measles. There are many geographic terms used to describe the origin of something

There are so few cases because there's been so little testing.

Every place testing has been ramped up, the numbers skyrocket.

  16. So is bullshit being repeated over and over in the hope it is accepted as "truth". It's so Goebbels-esque!

Like the "lock her up" repeated at all Trump's rallies?

Yeah I read somewhere yesterday cases are estimated to be 84% higher than they actually are
84% seems like an oddly specific number for an estimate

Maybe derived from a model incorporating data from other countries, would be my best guess.
