Did man always bake bread? Did it grow on trees once upon a time? Was it fished?

We have been making bread for centuries.

Bread was a staple food in Ancient Rome consumed by all social classes. It was originally made of emmer, a cereal grain related to wheat, and it is only during the Empire that wheat was used to make bread. ... Romans enjoyed several kinds of bread and bread recipes were just as diverse as they are today.

I always make my cornbread in a cast iron skillet. I add chopped jalapeƱos and shredded cheddar cheese. Sprinkle some brown sugar on top before it goes in the oven.
