How the Coronavirus Shattered Trump’s Serene Confidence

    excerpt:

"Ways you can help (besides staying home).

Schools and businesses have closed, local economies have unraveled and medical facilities are facing a shortage of crucial supplies — but there are ways to lend a helping hand.

For those seeking to give money, GlobalGiving connects nonprofits, donors and companies. Money received will help send emergency medical workers to communities in need.

Relief International focuses on supporting medical professionals with supplies. It operates in 16 countries and recently focused its efforts on helping Iran, where more than 20,000 infections have been reported. Similarly, Heart to Heart International is distributing equipment and medication to its global partners.

The outbreak has caused a severe blood shortage, according to the American Red Cross. It’s asking healthy donors to give blood, platelets or plasma.

Keeping families and children fed while schools are closed is a concern for many communities. World Central Kitchen works to distribute meals to children in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Little Rock, Ark. The program will expand to Los Angeles on Monday. The Covid-19 Response fund from Feeding America will support thousands of food pantries and hundreds of food banks across the country.

There are also organizations dedicated to supporting children, including UNICEF, Save the Children and First Book, which aims to deliver seven million books to children in the United States while schools are closed."

Also, Trump would have sent a letter of personal friendship to the dictators of Japan and Germany.

Coronavirus Live Updates: Global Toll Rises; W.H.O. Expert Says Lockdowns Aren’t Enough

Coronavirus Live Updates: Global Toll Rises; W.H.O. Expert Says Lockdowns Aren’t Enough

    excerpt:

"Italy has imposed a lockdown, deployed the army and risked its economy to try to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Yet the virus’s toll is growing more staggering by the day: On Saturday, officials reported 793 additional deaths, by far the largest single-day increase. Italy has surpassed China as the country with the highest death toll, becoming the epicenter of a shifting global pandemic."

"Right now, as we sit in our homes, washing our hands yet again, as we try to read the querulous expressions of our children, scientists and pharmaceutical companies are racing to develop antiviral treatments and—what will be our most valuable weapon—a vaccine. But no such deliverance is likely to arrive in this calendar year. In the meantime, another form of protection has become more urgent than ever. Misinformation and cant, along with a kindred scorn for science and professional expertise: these things are pathogens, too. Counterfeit facts can polarize, alienate, disaffect, rouse misdirected rage, and foment social division. They have long come at a cost to our civility; at a time of pandemic, especially, they also come at a cost in human lives."

Perusing various forums, Trump enthusiasm and science bashing often have commonality.

It may be that Trump enthusiasts see those in the science community as authority figures who Trump himself has belittled as part of his populist, dissident platform that rails against what he perceives and portrays as corrupt institutions.

The cold light of practical reason used by the science community is frequently at odds with the emotion and ideology driven approach of people like Trump, as evidenced recently by.Trump's musings and wishful thinking about the coronavirus being contradicted by his own health officials during his briefings while standing right next to him and others who are no longer present because he fired them or they resigned in frustration.

Some of the people who were once bashing the science community are now calling upon it for help. It's akin to the classic experiment of hierarchical needs where the monkey eventually leaves the model of a mother monkey that is soft but without milk to go to the uncomfortable metal wire version that has a milk bottle.

Humans are a step above (or below) that of monkeys where the heirarchical needs are such that ideology is sometimes at a higher needs level than health and life. As a news article about a church in the southern U.S. has shown, a portion of Trump enthusiasts are so loyal to him that they would continue to lick the door handles of their church that praises Trump in defiance of the objectivity of the science community.

While she was pimping out kids for her sex trade. That story was just laughable. But one stupid a$$hole shot someone in a pizza shop because he thought the story was true. Another "genius."

Hillary (I think very flawed BTW) - probably started the Civil War too.

Coronavirus live updates: $1,200 checks almost in the mail as Senate negotiates stimulus; Trump offers N. Korea help
    John Bacon, USA TODAY

Coronavirus updates: Massive stimulus package, Trump, North Korea

    excerpt:

"Trump offers North Korea help with COVID-19

President Donald Trump has sent a letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un offering to help the secretive, communist nation's fight against the coronavirus, the White House confirmed Sunday. The letter, which also expresses a desire to improve diplomatic relations, shows the strong "personal relations" between Trump and Kim, said Kim Yo-jong, Kim's sister and first vice department director of the Central Committee of the North's Workers' Party, in a statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency. The letter came after North Korea again tested short-range ballistic missiles over the weekend, drawing protests from South Korea."

Rand Paul is currently a subclinical case. He is an example of why Trump should have been tested earlier after it became known that Trump had been in contact with others who later tested positive. Trump himself could have been subclinical and transferring the virus to others around him.

Trump's own White House physician, Sean P. Conley, was making statements against such logic without convincing justifications, saying Trump showed no symptoms and had been involved in what his physician considered mild contact, such as standing next to a person with the virus or shaking hands.

It may be that Trump simply didn't want to take the test because he felt that it might alarm the public.

It may be that Trump actually took the test but claimed he didn't.

It's possible that Trump didn't take the test but later said he did, which is supported by his inability to describe the test when asked by a journalist.

These are the types of incidents and statements that sow uncertainty in the public and the markets.

Rand Paul was concerned about a few billion dollars being spent on the coronavirus and wanted it to come from foreign aid money.

It's currently up to a couple trillion.

    How would this be enforced?
Will the have a national guards person go with you on your errands?
Would they lock you up if you left your house?
I was talking to a friend, yesterday, and she went solo hiking on "a little known trail". She was shocked to see how many people were hiking there.
I took a drive to the beach to do some photography. It was not empty.
I think if you force a national quarantine for two weeks, people will riot.
