But, but but... His poor stock market. That must be top priority, doesn't matter how many people get sick, the stock market must thrive.

Great to see this whole ”What about XXX” argumentation has completely taken over the forums.
It’s just so helpful and relevant.

No matter where you stand politically, remember how you are behaving now when the shoe is on the other foot.

Seems like an argument for that only works for those foolish enough to wear shoes.

i actually have no idea what the context even was for the comment i quoted. as one of the few still working full time, it's impossible for me to keep up with the virus threads on here. i keep wanting to reply to that other big one, then i look up and realize i'm 70 pages back in it. i just decided to give up on that and jump to the end of all of them.

    Ha yeah I hear you.

Eh, it's just something I've been noticing more and more. I don't know what me throwing a bitch fit solves, but there it is for all to see.

He has the germ of a valid concern. Making protection from the virus at all costs our paramount objective risks sacrificing other values that ultimately might cost lives and human suffering, namely the prospect of another Great Depression. Public health experts like Dr. Fauci think in terms of their own narrow area of concern and expertise: protecting us from disease. They aren't used to balancing that against other concerns. That's a question for policy makers, not medical experts, and it involves risk-benefit analysis, or weighing the value of human lives against other values.

When we smoke, drive our cars, eat under-cooked meat, or earn our living as a coal miner or NASCAR driver, we're taking risks with our lives, and sometimes the lives of those around us. Economists can put numerical figures on these values by considering what it would take to induce people to leave lower risk jobs for risky ones, how much people seem to be willing to pay for safety features, and the level of demand for high risk activities or commodities.COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS, VALUE OF A STATISTICAL LIFE AND CULTURE: CHALLENGES FOR RISK REGULATION - Munich Personal RePEc Archive Highway engineers make such calculations for us when they design highways in full knowledge that some people will die driving on them. In the Reagan Administration, when the U.S. government permitted states to raise the speed limit from 55 to 65 miles per hour, we lost a human life for every 125.000 miles of driver time gained. The Cost of a Human Life, Statistically Speaking - The Globalist Estimates of how much a human life is worth varies from agency to agency, but the Office of Management and Budget puts it at between $7 to $9 million. These are the kinds of hard-nosed calculations that will have to be made in order to devise rational responses to a pandemic that don't lead to the destruction of our economy--substituting the Horseman of famine for that of pestilence. To suggest such a thing in the highly charged partisan environment of contemporary U.S. politics requires much more finesse than I'm capable of, but I think it's the way policy makers should be thinking. But the trade-offs should be based on rational calculations. An on-again, off-again policy makes no sense.

so he is weighing the short term costs of a human life versus the long term costs.

How the House Democrats' stimulus plan compares to the Senate's

Here is what the House says about coronavirus response/stimulus. I read the whole thing and I have to admit I like what they're proposing. It seems more adequate than the original bill because it includes more common elements. For example, the Senate bill didn't mention things like internet or utilities. This one does that. It also goes after price gouging! ;)

Errrmmm - wasn't it Hephatrump himself who first advised people to take these drugs as a combination to fight against the Covid - 19 ???

That being the case, wouldn't the relatives of the deceased have a bloody good case against the Hephatrump for Manslaughter ???

  17. Well now, here's the Light Governor of Texas' solution to the Coronavirus, just go back to work and let the old folks die, to save the economy, for our grandchildren. I usually expect the "for the children" line from the left, but this nut is a republican who seems to think his age gives him the right to say such outrageous shit. When you hear him actually say this shit all that comes out is wealthy privilege. Fuck this guy.

Texas Lt. Governor suggests the elderly should risk their lives to save the economy

  18. Not to be outdone, here's the wish list the democrats are using to hold up any Coronavirus relief efforts. Notice how many have nothing to do with virus mitigation.

-Publication of corporate pay statistics by race and race statistics for all corporate boards
-A bail out on all current debt at the Postal Service
    -Required early voting
    -Required same day voter registration
-Provisions on official time for union collective bargaining
-Full offset of airline emissions by 2025
-Publication and reporting of greenhouse gas statistics for individual flights
-Retirement plans for community newspaper employees
    -Federal $15 minimum wage
    -Permanent paid leave
-Study on climate change mitigation efforts

Seriously folks, it's BOTH parties fucking with us.
