Liberty University Brings Back Its Students, and Coronavirus Fears, Too

    excerpt:

"Updated March 30, 2020: This story has been changed to reflect the first known positive coronavirus test of a Liberty University student.

LYNCHBURG, Va. — As Liberty University’s spring break was drawing to a close this month, Jerry Falwell Jr., its president, spoke with the physician who runs Liberty’s student health service about the rampaging coronavirus.

“We’ve lost the ability to corral this thing,” Dr. Thomas W. Eppes Jr. said he told Mr. Falwell. But he did not urge him to close the school. “I just am not going to be so presumptuous as to say, ‘This is what you should do and this is what you shouldn’t do,’” Dr. Eppes said in an interview.

So Mr. Falwell — a staunch ally of President Trump and an influential voice in the evangelical world — reopened the university last week, igniting a firestorm. As of Friday, Dr. Eppes said, nearly a dozen Liberty students were sick with symptoms that suggested Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus. Three were referred to local hospital centers for testing. An additional eight were told to self-isolate.

As of 8 p.m. on March 29, of those three students tested, one was positive, one was negative and one student’s results are still pending, according to Dr. Eppes, who added that the student who tested positive for Covid-19 lives off campus."

Trump could cause a great depression for ten years with areas once populated by people taken over by wildlife, and he and his following would still be claiming that it would have been much worse if he hadn't been President.

God also gave us brains ……………. I believe he wants us to use them in situations such as this virus pandemic. In Jesus' time, lepers were kept away from all other people. Even He didn't tell the lepers to mix with the general population. Maybe we ought to actually use our brains.

"I Haven't Heard About Testing in Weeks": In Leaked Audio, Trump Dismisses Governors' Concerns About Lack of Coronavirus Equipment

"I Haven't Heard About Testing in Weeks": In Leaked Audio, Trump Dismisses Governors' Concerns About Lack of Coronavirus Equipment

    excerpt:

"Washington Gov. Jay Inslee told the New York Times that he was stunned by the president's remarks.

"It would be shocking to me that... anyone who has had access to any newspaper, radio, social networks, or any other communication would not be knowledgeable about the need for test kits," Inslee said, noting his state is in "dire" need of equipment. "I can be assured that the White House knows very well about this desperate need for test kits."

Trump has repeatedly ignored or brushed aside warnings from frontline workers and local officials about shortages of of testing kits and other medical equipment as the coronavirus continues to spread rapidly across the United States.

During a press briefing Monday evening, Trump lashed out at PBS reporter Yamiche Alcindor after she pressed the president on why, despite his frequent claims to the contrary, the United States continues to lag behind other major nations in coronavirus testing per capita.

"You should be saying congratulations instead of asking a really snarky question," Trump said."

Trump sounds the same as Baghdad Bob who became famous for his ridiculous remarks that tried to downplay the impending fall of Saddam's regime.

Coronavirus Live Updates: U.S. Deaths Surpass China’s, but China’s Figures Remain in Doubt
The White House is expected to release models showing the future course of the disease, and the C.D.C. is reviewing its guidance on wearing masks as new data suggests many people with no symptoms are infecting others.

Coronavirus Live Updates: U.S. Deaths Surpass China’s, but China’s Figures Remain in Doubt

    excerpt:

"Though the United States and South Korea both confirmed their first cases on Jan. 20, America has been much slower to ramp up testing. Last week, the United States surpassed the number of tests performed in South Korea, but the American population is more than six times larger, and Americans are much less likely to have been tested.

Mr. Hogan, who is chairman of the National Governors Association, also raised testing issues in an op-ed in The Washington Post, which he co-authored with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Democrat of Michigan. “There simply aren’t enough test kits,” they wrote."

Gov. Cuomo took a playful NYC-style jab at his younger brother:

“This virus is the great equalizer,” Gov. Cuomo told reporters. “My brother Chris is positive for coronavirus. Found out this morning. Now, he is going to be fine. He’s young, in good shape, strong — not as strong as he thinks — but he will be fine."

Border Wall Work in Arizona Speeds Up, Igniting Contagion Fears
Border town residents in Arizona say the huge influx of workers exposes them to the coronavirus. Gov. Doug Ducey imposed a statewide stay-at-home order, but it was not expected to slow the federal project.

Border Wall Work in Arizona Speeds Up, Igniting Contagion Fears

    excerpt:

"AJO, Ariz. — Motels, mobile home camps and Airbnbs in this small Arizona border town are full up. Work crews stream into eateries for takeout orders. License plates on trucks parked outside the crowded laundromat come from as far away as Alaska.

Around the country, some states have cut back on construction activity to curb the spread of the coronavirus, and hotels and restaurants in many cities have closed. But here in Arizona, the federal government is embarking on a frenetic new phase of construction of the border wall.

The Trump administration contends that the wall will help prevent the spread of the virus into the United States from Mexico, though epidemiologists and the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say such a barrier would not mitigate the outbreaks already occurring in every state.

The intensification of construction during the pandemic is raising fears among residents of Ajo, Ariz., and other nearby border communities that the growing influx of workers increases their risk of exposure. Some disease specialists in Arizona are warning that workers clustered in tight quarters along the border could spread the virus around the country when they return to their families."

Trump incorrectly claims Seoul has population of 38m

    Staff writer
    Mar 31st 2020 3:17AM
When asked about the US's coronavirus testing capabilities by a journalist at a White House press briefing, Donald Trump deflected by asking the reporter about the South Korean capital city Seoul's population.

"I know South Korea better than anybody," Trump said. "It's a very tight — do you know how many people are in Seoul? Do you know how big the city of Seoul is? 38 million people. That's bigger than anything we have."

Seoul actually only has a population of 10m.

Over 120,000 Sign Petition Calling for End to Live Coverage of Trump's Coronavirus Briefings
    By Chantal Da Silva

Over 120,000 sign petition calling for end to live coverage of Trump's coronavirus briefings

    excerpt:

"More than 120,000 people have signed a petition calling on news broadcasters to stop providing live coverage of the White House's briefings on the coronavirus outbreak.

Accusing President Donald Trump of using each briefing as a "live campaign rally," the petition, which has been published on MoveOn.org, asks CNN, ABC, CBS NBC, NPR and Fox News to consider whether it is necessary to livestream the COVID-19 press conferences in full.

"President Trump is blatantly using the news organizations' extensive, live coverage to freely campaign for a second term," the petition claims. "It is wrong and dangerous to provide so much unfettered airtime to someone who is happily, shamelessly spreading terrible, damaging misinformation that is already costing fellow Americans their lives.""

Why would anyone even want a position in his administration?? It's a revolving door there.
