"Trump, who is officially launching his reelection campaign Tuesday in Florida, has grown frustrated that his appointees have not lowered drug prices as he had promised, something that numerous polls show is a priority for voters, particularly senior citizens. “It’s totally political,” a former White House official said. “You can’t ignore the political angle.”

Azar has spent months battling White House domestic policy chief Joe Grogan, acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney and other officials over proposals targeting high drug prices, Medicaid and Obamacare, individuals inside and outside the administration said. But Azar has been repeatedly overruled, including on Trump’s decision to reverse a Justice Department stance in a high-profile Texas lawsuit and urge courts to strike down the entire Affordable Care Act.

Azar “hasn’t exactly been in line here recently,” said one administration official.

A former drug company executive-turned-Cabinet secretary, Azar also resisted letting Florida import drugs from Canada, a plan sought by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Trump ally.

The simmering clash has pitted the ideological bent of officials like Grogan and Mulvaney — who see themselves as upholding Trump’s hard-line agenda — against Azar, a conservative but pragmatic former George W. Bush administration official."

 

Mulvaney exited the OMB in March 2020. North Carolina congressman Mark Meadows is now director of the OMB.

 

It's gullible to think that an administration being run like a competition reality TV show is going to be able to properly prepare for and handle an impending health crisis such as the coronavirus.

 

They were fighting with him two weeks ago were they?

 

Trump has gone through his share of secretaries of HHS.

Tom Price resigned because of his use of military aircraft and private charters for travel. Price was a fiery critic of Obama's ACA. He served less than eight months which is the shortest tenure in the history of the cabinet level position.

Don J. Wright served as acting secretary of HHS for twelve days.

Eric Hargan served as acting HHS secretary for about four months.

Alex Azar replaced Hargan.

As expected, Trump is talking as if he is saving 2 million people who would have been dead if he had done nothing.

It's an attempt to divert the public's attention away from his belittling of the virus and acting late which increased the death toll.

He has also falsely claimed that World Health Organization coronavirus test kits were bad tests and that the U.S. has developed better ones.

“We inherited bad tests. These are horrible tests. And it was broken, it was all broken and we fixed it,” Trump said."

 

Trump is once again using the virus briefings as a campaign platform. This time it was the opioid problem and his border wall.

"CNN and MSNBC each turned away from President Donald Trump’s coronavirus briefing after it started with an announcement — about a new advanced counter-narcotics operation.

The networks found it off-topic, particularly as Trump began to talk about progress of the construction of a wall along the southern border, a signature campaign promise.

CNN’s John King expressed his annoyance.

“When you are an incumbent president, to bring that into a briefing in the middle of a pandemic, the day after the incredibly sobering news the administration rightfully delivered to the American people yesterday, is shameless and it’s political,” he said on-air. “The president has other opportunities to do this. There are 24 hours in a day. He has all the buildings of the government still at his disposal.”"

 

Trump didn't even bother to try to answer the question about not reactivating ACA enrollment and turned it over the Pence who rambled and didn't answer it either.

"Roberts also asked Trump about why the administration had decided, in the midst of the pandemic, not to reopen the Affordable Care Act insurance exchanges, given the concerns that people are being crushed by medical bills.

Trump handed off the question to Pence, who talked about a range of issues, including insurance companies who have waived co-pays for testing, but did not directly answer.

“I think it is one of the greatest answers I have ever heard, because Mike was able to speak for five minutes and not even touch your question,” Trump said. “That’s really a fair question, and it is something we are looking into.”

Said Roberts: “This a huge worry for people in this country who are in that donut hole. They don’t have commercial insurance. They don’t qualify for Medicaid. What do they do?”

Trump replied: “That’s a pretty big group. We are looking at it.”"

 

All of Trump's left-behinders should consider the lack of an adequate response by Trump and Pence. They've had over three years to improve the healthcare system but chose to sabotage the ACA and do essentially nothing constructive with Congress.

 

Those are his best qualities... Rambling and not answering the question.

 

Trump applauded Pence for rambling for five minutes and not answering the question.

Trump can't even get along with Fox News anymore, such as reporter John Roberts who asked reasonable questions.

 

Trump's down-and-outers need to consider whether Trump sticking it to a reporter like John Roberts means more to them than their own healthcare.
