I was wondering. What do you think of New Mexico becoming a Hispanic state. The first language there being Spanish, and giving those in that state the right to self govern, becoming a distinct society within the USA? Based on their culture? Where by their culture is preserved within that state, but are still American? That culture is celebrated. All produce would be in Spanish all boxes in Spanish, all schools are Spanish but they take English for say 30 minutes a day. All literature is in Spanish? History being different from the rest of the country and focuses on promoting pride in their heritage?

 

You've never been to New Mexico. It is already like that in many parts of the state. The western half is Navajo, Zuni, Apache, Pueblo, Ute, and Comanche. Why does a fake Canadian White Man want Spanish words on my box of produce? Why do you want my grand kids to learn English for 30 minutes each day? Muslims are fast becoming the biggest majority in Canada. Why don't you start teaching Arabic and Islam in Canada?

This is how we end up with enclaves in the country. Instead of embracing diversity, a LOT of people in the US prefer to segregate themselves into these ethnic enclaves and outsiders are treated, like outsiders (far from welcome). New Mexico at present has a lot of these enclaves, but they also have an integrated society in places like Las Cruces and Albuquerque. Of all the states to be considered for this I'd think Arizona might be a better pick for turning into an intentional enclave. But I still fail to see the point.

And do we want white enclaves as well? Of course not, THAT would be "racist".

 

New Mexico is overwhelmingly white, English speaking people. I know; I lived there. It's also a god awful state and place to live. The yokels are out in goddamn droves.

I agree. I don’t like segregation, which is their choice but also very unwelcoming.

I picked New Mexico because they have a larger population of Hispanic people than Arizona. I considered Arizona. Did a fair bit of work for radio stations down there as well as other businesses around tuscon. If this is given to Arizona, will New Mexico also fight for this?

so if there is a Hispanic state to preserve that culture, which is pretty strong in Catholic Church, what happens to “white American people”, “black American people” and “native American cultures” or any combo of this, “Mexican European American, etc...that is there? Will they become the marginalized? Will this extend beyond the borders?

I know what has happened in Canada when this has been done, the results are not good.

 

Here in Indiana, we are under a stay-at-home order. People in this state do not like orders; therefore, the parks and stores are flooded with people literally begging to contract COVID-19.

I am a liberal, but I have some limitations. One of my pet peeves are minorities who do not want to assimilate into 'murican society.
I live in an Asian(Chinese) majority city. They recently opened up a new Chinese market, and I went to check it out, but what with all the stares, I felt like a pariah.
Note: when I was kid, my best friend was Chinese.
