Yeah, well I'm not against that so I can't argue against it. I'm against causing unnecessary suffering, mainly, and even my issue with meat is more focused on intensive farming methods. Hunting your own etc, doesn't bother me, morally. And I eat eggs as I don't believe free range chickens are being made to suffer. Of course. I don't think eating meat is inherently wrong. My main reason for getting involved in this is to point out that hating on vegetarians, the way some posts were, is as bad as being a judgemental vegan and hating carnivores. I am planting my own soya beans this year.. No environmental issue there. I'd have to research regarding rainforest destruction, whether it can be avoided.. Etc. I eat lots of nuts. No issue with my weight. I don't feel it's difficult to get enough protein. When I take into consideration all the foods that might be primarily for other things, but also contain protein. Oats, for example. Rice. Mentioned already, quinoa. I eat a lot of these things, and beans and chickpeas. I'm not average, muscle wise, either. I am above. Thank you for pointing out nutritional yeast is fortified. I was mistaken in thinking that was a natural b12 source.
I am not a vegan or a vegetarian but amaranth is a plant that is considered a complete protein because it contains all the amino acids that we need to consume to stay healthy. I am not against eating meat but I am against the way we treat livestock as well as the over hunting and fishing of wild animals. We really need to completely overhaul our entire food system. I wish it was feasible for all humans to go back to a hunter gatherer lifestyle but that's impossible with our exploding population and the dwindling animal populations on our planet. Our world is made up of natural cycles, everything living will die and become food for something else but how we live is what matters most and that is just as true for all living things on earth, not just humans. Unfortunately, our species, in all its wisdom, has completely disregarded the natural order of things and now, well, just look around. Even in mostly untouched areas of the world humans have had a negative impact, While there are things that we all can do to make things better, I don't hold out much hope that we actually will.
I agree. I also agree with Peter Singer who says it is not a question of killing animals but how they are treated when alive. I hate factory farming ,hence my subtitle.
I also agree with Peter Singer.. Here are a few actual quotes of his.. "By ceasing to rear and kill animals for food, we can make so much extra food available for humans that, properly distributed, it would eliminate starvation and malnutrition from this planet. Animal Liberation is Human Liberation too." Peter Singer, Animal Liberation
"If we are prepared to take the life of another being merely in order to satisfy our taste for a particular type of food, then that being is no more than a means to our end." Peter Singer, Animal Liberation
"The unchallenged assumption is that humans may use animals for their own purposes, and they may raise and kill them to satisfy their preference for a diet containing animal flesh." Peter Singer, Animal Liberation
These quotes would be more interesting in context. On their own they aren't terribly instructive, I don't think.
GLEN Hates You "Will"............I Did A Monthly Supermarket Shop Today Which Included A Pack Of Bacon Rashes.......NOW......Thanks To YOU......They Will Never Ever Get Eaten........ No problem, Just invite VG around for lunch. PS, I wonder if Nh Gg (or whatever her name is) likes bacon. Only one way to find out. PPS, When you discover that you have found the way to her heart, don't forget to invite me to the wedding.
Update, It is EhNn. I have just called her, she loves bacon and she is just off to Walmart to buy the wedding gown and a ticket to Bathhurst. I told her to look for the guy running for the hills PS, No need to tell me that you hate me even more,
I understand that you have a very strong opinion about this but having a proper discussion also means listening and considering what the other person has to say not just shooting them down. Bilby did not actually quote anyone, it seemed more like he was paraphrasing instead of making a direct quote. It seems to be what his takeaway was from what he read. You may have read the same thing but had a different impression from it. Instead of fighting and further solidifying some people's belief that vegans are all crazy people, you could just write out your opinion on the subject in a thoughtful, non-argumentative way and let it stand on its own. Maybe then you wouldn't feel the need to erase your own comments and your opinion can be expressed in its best light.
I support moderating meat consumption and ethical farming. I am against the total abolition of meat consumption. I'm only neutral on artificial meat production (like in a lab and not grown in/on a living animal) if natural meat production and consumption are not abolished. Otherwise I would be violently against it. I certainly am not interested in making it an alternative for animal flesh in my diet.
It was in a copy of Earth Garden magazine ( the downunder equivalent of Mother Earth News.) I have a pile of these magazines.Do you want me to dig it out and scan a copy?
