Trump and his daughter are overwhelming proof of that with their clothing lines imported from China (and Vietnam, Mexico, and Bangladesh).

American vandal: Trump reveals our staggering incompetence before the whole world
Now the country that planned D-Day can't handle delivering medical supplies — and it's not just about Trump
    Heather Digby Parton

American vandal: Trump's massive fail — and ours

    excerpts:

"Donald Trump is a completely incompetent leader — we know this. Literally any other president would have done a better job. He couldn't accept that the crisis was real and that his "plan" to spend the year holding fun rallies and smearing his Democratic rival was going to be interrupted by his duties as president. So he lived in denial until the situation was completely out of hand. Other leaders would have listened to experts and pulled together a team that knew how to organize a national response. And no other president would be so witless as to waste precious time and resources with magical thinking about quick miracle cures.

But it's not just him, is it? The U.S. government seems to have lost its capacity to act, and the private sector is so invested in short-term profit-making that it's lost its innovative edge. The result is that the United States of America, formerly the world's leader in science and technology, now only leads the world in gruesome statistics and body counts."

"The election of Donald Trump was about more than just this presidency. It signaled that America was no longer capable of competently governing itself, much less leading the world. Our devastatingly disorganized, scattershot response to the COVID-19 crisis has revealed that this problem goes much deeper than our politics. We couldn't have lost our ability to do anything right at a worse time."

US stays away as world leaders agree action on Covid-19 vaccine
Video meeting seen as global endorsement of WHO and sign of Trump’s isolation on world stage

US stays away as world leaders agree action on Covid-19 vaccine

    excerpt:

"Global leaders have pledged to accelerate cooperation on a coronavirus vaccine and to share research, treatment and medicines across the globe. But the United States did not take part in the World Health Organization initiative, in a sign of Donald Trump’s increasing isolation on the global stage.

The cooperation pledge, made at a virtual meeting, was designed to show that wealthy countries will not keep the results of research from developing countries.

The meeting also represented a symbolic endorsement of the United Nations body in the face of Trump’s decision to suspend US payments and condemn its leaders as subordinates of the Chinese Communist party. China and the US have accused each other of bullying and disinformation over the coronavirus outbreak, damaging efforts to secure cooperation at the G20, the natural international institution to handle global health outside the UN."

While Trump minimizes the toll, government orders 100,000 new body bags
Federal coronavirus response documents obtained by NBC News suggest that the president's optimism about "Opening Up America" is at odds with dire warnings from inside his administration.

While Trump minimizes the toll, government orders 100,000 new body bags

    excerpt:

"WASHINGTON — The federal government placed orders for well over 100,000 new body bags to hold victims of COVID-19 in April, according to internal administration documents obtained by NBC News, as well as public records. The biggest set was earmarked for purchase the day after President Donald Trump projected that the U.S. death toll from the coronavirus might not exceed 50,000 or 60,000 people.

That batch is a pending $5.1 million purchase order placed by the Department of Homeland Security on April 21 with E.M. Oil Transport Inc. of Montebello, California, which advertises construction vehicles, building materials and electronics on its website. The "human remains pouches" have not been paid for or shipped to the Federal Emergency Management Agency yet, according to the company's marketing manager, Mike Pryor."

Amid a Rising Death Toll, Trump Leaves the Grieving to Others
President Trump has led no national mourning for the more than 63,000 Americans who have died from the coronavirus, emphasizing confidence about the future rather than dwelling on the present.
    By Peter Baker

Amid a Rising Death Toll, Trump Leaves the Grieving to Others

    excerpt:

"As the death toll from the coronavirus over eight weeks surpasses the total American military casualties in eight years of major combat in Vietnam, Mr. Trump has led no national mourning. In his daily news conferences, he makes only perfunctory references to those who have died as he stiffly reads opening remarks, exhibiting more emotion when grieving his lost economic record than his lost constituents.

Empathy has never been considered one of Mr. Trump’s political assets. He views public displays of sadness as weakness and has made a point of stressing resolve, even at the risk of overlooking the deep pain afflicting so much of the country. His favorite words in his televised appearances of recent weeks are “powerful” and “strong.” He talks of “incredible” days ahead without dwelling on the miserable days of now. He plans fireworks while Americans plan funerals."

That would be another great scene at the White House press briefings: delivery truck drivers dropping off body bags the government ordered as Trump's son-in-law Kushner is at the podium claiming the Trump administration's response to the coronavirus has been an incredible success story.

In the satire movie Airplene!, the dead bodies of the pilots were dragged down the aisle past the passengers as the stewardesses assured them that everything was fine when no one was able to fly the aircraft.

Based on Trump's behavior over the decades, he wouldn't pay the bill for the body bags he had purchased.

Top Trump policy adviser Joe Grogan to leave post

    excerpt:

"Joe Grogan, head of the White House Domestic Policy Council, intends to leave his position at the end of May.

A White House official confirmed Grogan’s planned departure, which was first reported by The Wall Street Journal. Grogan told the Journal that he was leaving the White House on good terms with President Trump and that he planned to leave the position on May 24, having stayed in the role longer than he anticipated.

Grogan’s departure had been rumored as a possibility for weeks, particularly following the arrival of Mark Meadows, a former North Carolina congressman, as Trump’s fourth chief of staff."

Trump is blaming Obama for leaving him with “broken tests” for a virus that didn’t exist. Yes, really.
An exchange with CNN’s Jim Acosta revealed just how impervious to correction the president’s falsehoods can be.

Trump is blaming Obama for leaving him with "broken tests" for a virus that didn’t exist. Yes, really.

    excerpt:

"During a White House press availability on Thursday, CNN’s Jim Acosta asked Trump to explain how it makes sense to blame former President Barack Obama for testing problems pertaining to a virus that didn’t even exist until nearly thee years after he left office.

“The last administration left us nothing. We started off with bad, broken tests, and obsolete tests,” Trump asserted, prompting Acosta to jump in and ask: “You say ‘broken tests’ — it’s a new virus, so how could the tests be broken?”

Acosta’s question succinctly revealed the fundamental absurdity of Trump’s ongoing efforts to pin blame for coronavirus testing problems on his predecessor. Trump, however, just plowed forward with variations of the same false claim over and over again."

Trump just tweeted support for armed men who protested at the Michigan State House … against their Democrat Governor. He said she should give a little. In the past, Trump has issued an unnecessary pardon to armed men who had occupied a federal facility in Oregon. Both incidents are symbolic and Trump has extended his support to these White men who carry guns into government facilities as a form of intimidation. They don't seem to care for the democratic process, and don't care for the governor's duty to protect the citizens of Michigan. The symbolism of their action says they bring their guns and will get their way in the end. The rest of us need to ask our selves: What would happen to us colored people in the event where we carry guns into a government building? Why hasn't the Michigan state police arrested and charged these White Right Wing Extremists?

As much as Trump has praised their leadership styles, we can surely see where Trump would like to take the U.S. - a dictatorship where he would be called "The Supreme Leader." Trump already has businesses in China, Bangladesh, and I believe Viet Nam and / or Singapore. And he wants to build hotels in Russia, which he was working on before he was elected. Reporters following Trump in N. Korea said he was talking to Kim Jung Un about how nice it would be to have hotels along the shore there. I seriously doubt Truman had this kind of self-aggrandizing stunt in mind with commemorative coins, especially with COMMUNIST DICTATORS on them with a U.S. President.

Does anyone REALLY believe Trump has the U.S. future as his central focus??? Trump's focus is on Trump and his own business interests.

I do. And I'm hearing a lot more people saying the same thing. I also heard some economists on TV about a week or 10 days ago saying that even if companies leave China because of corona virus or other trade tensions, those companies are moving to Mexico - they ARE NOT coming back to the U.S. U.S. manufacturing will not come back here - so stop hoping. Ronald Reagan made the speech when he was President - and I WATCHED IT. He said, "We're going to change our economy from a manufacturing-based economy, to a service-based economy." (Service-based means clerking in stores, driving delivery trucks, waitressing, etc.)

BTW - Name any modern-day country that has flourished economically (for the whole population) without manufacturing as the base of it's economy. Some will say the U.S. has because of the stock market - but how much stock / bonds / real estate does the avg. American actually hold?? How much and how often do you get pay raises?? Prices keep getting higher - but does your pay get higher??? I recently read in a financial magazine that the avg. 401-K balance is around $90,000. I hate to break the news, but that's NOTHING in today's dollars. The vast BULK of the stock market is owned by a small percentage of the population, so when avg. people hear the stock market is going up, they think they'll get rich.

Here's a question - If an American loses their job paying, let's say $50,000 / year to offshoring, how much further ahead is he / she ending up taking a job paying $25,000 in order to save $3 here, $10 there, $15 there, $6 on another thing. Not so many years ago I bought Arrow dress shirts (made in the U.S.A.) for $11 to $15 per shirt. Then - when they moved their operations to China and elsewhere, the prices shot up to $22 to $25 per shirt. Is that a consumer gain??? And does anyone see prices for consumers going down??? Avg. folks hear companies say they go offshore to keep costs low ........... and they think that means the prices they'll pay as consumers. WRONG!!! "Costs" to a company are labor costs. Everything keeps going up - EXCEPT PAY. We end up paying for the global shipping costs, and now tariffs yet. (China and other countries DO NOT pay those tariffs for us like bonehead claims!!!)

John Bogle - Founder of the Vanguard Group of Mutual Funds - said a few years ago in an article that the system is rigged against the small investor. And he was an insider!!! Other investment firms HATED Bogle for divulging that set of specifics of how the system is set up, which he detailed. Bogle was the only champion of the small individual investor, and he died.

Bottom line ............ Don't hold your breath for any nice change coming from Trump. Short of an all-out world war, manufacturing is NOT coming back on any kind of scale.

Skin color is one point, Stormountainman , but only one point. Republican politicians will tolerate and even encourage armed confrontation if it's guys supporting THEM, and THEIR IDEOLOGY. Notice how muck-mouth Moscow Mitch hasn't uttered on peep against those guys with guns in the Michigan State House?? Or any other Republican for that matter. The Republican party - you know ……. the guys who claim to be all about the rule of law, law & order, etc. That ONLY APPLIES WHEN IT BENEFITS THEM POLITICALLY. That's why Trump sided with the gun-toters in the Michigan State House, and the other spineless muck-mouths like Moscow Mitch say nothing. If those were Democrats with guns protesting a Repub. governor ……………. they'd be screaming & yelling, pounding their lily-white baby-fists on their podiums, and throwing up blood.

But because it's Repubs doing the gun-waving - it's OK by them. Don't expect to hear muck-mouth Moscow Mitch condemn the gun-toters' actions. Or lily-white Lindsey Graham, or any other Repub. because they have NO ETHICS AT ALL.

That's why I've said on this forum that if an R does "X" that's fine and dandy to the Repubs. But if a D does "X" - that's cause for imprisonment, they're a traitor, a tyrant, a dictator, a commie, they're "un-American" etc.
    But here's the truth …………………. "X" really DOES = "X".

    of course not
but Ronnie is considered a god amongst republicans. If
'muricans are saying that they want things built here, then tell them to stop shopping at Walmart. Things could be built in this country, but you have corporate greed, and you actually have worker greed, in the way.

Kellyanne Conway misunderstands the number '19' in COVID-19.

Her statements indicate that she thought that there had been 19 returns of the same virus. She used her misunderstanding to try to discredit the science community who, in her mind, were unsucessful 19 times.

Conway is the same person who made a reference to a non-existent 'Bowling Green Massacre' after she heard scraps of words about a 2011 arrest of two Iraqi refugees in Bowling Green, Kentucky,

Trump administration senior advisor Kellyanne Conway, appeared to misunderstand what the number 19 in Covid-19 refers to, during a Fox News television appearance.

Kellyanne Conway appears to misunderstand the '19' in Covid-19

    excerpts:

"Speaking on Fox and Friends on Wednesday, the White House official spoke about the virus while discussing president Donald Trump’s decision to suspend funding for the World Health Organisation (WHO)."

"She added that the organisation has done a poor job of dealing with the coronavirus pandemic so far, but seemingly misunderstood the origin of the name, Covid-19."
