Trump sided with the foreign motorcycle manufactures instead of Harley-Davidson after H-D said it would be moving some of its domestic operations overseas to avoid the retaliatory tariffs caused by Trump's trade war. Trump said he would give special status to the foreign manufacturers so that they would come to the U.S. as a way of retaliating against H-D which he feels didn't remain totally obedient and loyal to him. It's the opposite of Trump's America First slogan. Much of Trump's misguided behavior stems from his highly inflated ego which is one facet of his general narcissism pathology.
A grand example of Trump supporting a loser is his support of himself and his own failed ventures. He claimed that his bankruptcies were a success by contending that he lost less than the other casinos because his failed first. His same pathological mindset is currently being observed almost 30 years later. He contends that his multiple failed responses to the coronavirus are actually successes by trying to window dress the case and death rates with normalizing factors that he mistakenly thinks will make them look better than those of other countries.
Trump should meet with the relatives of the deceased coronavirus victims and explain to them that the deaths aren't that bad if the figures are expressed by particular normalizing parameters.
Naturally Trump doesn’t want anyone to contradict what he has to say until after he leaves the podium, because he knows his base of support will believe anything he says. After that it’s all fake news.
It leaves to the imagination how Trump would respond to a very time-sensitive crisis (imminent military attack, meteor impact, tsunami) after considering that he had months to prepare and react to the coronavirus pandemic and instead chose to squander the time on denying its severity. Moreover, he used such a crisis that has killed nearly 150,000 Americans to further strike a wedge in the country that he thinks will aid his reelection.. Pandemic's spread and sagging polls prompt Trump retreat By Kevin Liptak and Jeremy Diamond, CNN Updated 4:50 PM ET, Fri July 24, 2020 Sagging polls and Covid's pall prompt Trump retreat on his key priorities - CNNPolitics excerpt: "I think he is finally starting to get it," one Trump adviser said, pointing to Trump's recognition of his dire political standing and the pandemic's reality. "But can he do this for the next 100 days? I think if he does, he wins." The shift comes too late to erase the months Trump spent in denial — both on his convention and on the virus itself. Canceling events and bowing to facts now aren't going to contain a virus that, partly because of some of Trump's actions and decisions, is still spreading out of control. But it is striking after months of charging ahead with reopening and downplaying the science to now hear Trump tell a Fox News interviewer: "We're setting an example. We don't want to have people so close together." Trump is now trailing Biden by double digits with an average deficit of 12 percentage points, according to a CNN average of recent national polls. A series of Fox News polls this week showed Biden handily leading Trump in the battleground states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Minnesota. And a Washington Post-ABC News poll showed that just 38% of Americans approve of Trump's handling of the pandemic -- with 60% disapproving.
Trump is supposedly ten steps ahead of everyone, but it requires about six months of a deadly pandemic for him to finally start to 'get it'.
Did you ever notice how trump likes to advertise victims of violent crime? Yet, he never advertises victims of police brutality.
Trump has a history of trying to connive his way out of his losses. After winning in 2016, he was a sore winner. He claimed his loss of the popular vote to Hillary was due to an alleged 3 million illegal votes that went to her instead of him. He tried to prove it by launching a commission headed by Kobach of Kansas that found nothing and quietly disbanded. His denial of his much smaller inaugural crowd size compared to Obama's. His appraisal of his bankruptcies as successes. There's little reason to believe he wouldn't be a sore loser after the 2020 election and a sore winner if he wins. Trump's desire to start frivolous fights is exemplified by the rumor that Oprah Winfrey might run for president in 2020. Oprah had said repeatedly that she wasn't running. Trump started a protracted monolog fight with Oprah on Twitter as if he was running against her. It was like she was the new Hillary for him. Trump is still behaving in this manner months into a deadly pandemic, trying to defend himself to others about his cognitive test, picking fights with mayors that involved one being tear-gassed (followed by Trump bragging about it on national TV), enraged about removal of Confederate names from military installations, ranting about alleged mail-in voter fraud, and upset about players kneeling during the national anthem.
What's sad is how anyone could be gullible enough to believe anything he has to say. How many lies does he have to tell before losing credibility with these people? 1000, 2000, 10,000?
Official count as of a few days ago was over 20,000 lies since he took office... Hasn't fazed his base yet.
Fauci talks like a president and refers to Trump like he's babysitting him. ‘Make America Normal Again’: Trump backers plead for a virus plan Political allies say outlining a more specific plan to battle the coronavirus might be the most important factor for Trump's reelection. By ANITA KUMAR 07/24/2020 07:45 PM EDT ‘Make America Normal Again’: Trump backers plead for a virus plan excerpt: "You’re seeing an evolution of a realization of the reality of what's going on and I believe he's adjusting to that right now and acting accordingly,” said Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, during a Fox News interview on Friday. “So you know, I'm very, in many respects, positively responding to that because that’ll set a good example for the rest of the country." Still, Trump reiterated his claim the coronavirus will eventually disappear and indicated he was still developing a recovery strategy six months after the first Covid-19 case was detected in the U.S. “We are in the process of developing a strategy that's going to be very, very powerful,” he told reporters Tuesday.
Trump's convention cancellation is costing GOP donors millions Of the $38 million raised by the host committee for Charlotte, North Carolina, most has been spent, according to Republicans familiar with the finances. By Kristen Welker, Carol E. Lee, Shannon Pettypiece and Monica Alba July 24, 2020, 8:22 PM EDT Trump's convention cancellation is costing GOP donors millions excerpt: "Trump’s reversal on the convention is part of a broader attempt over the past week to revive his political standing with Americans who have shown in polls they have little confidence in his handling of the pandemic. Allies of the president are unsure if his new approach will last, given, as one of them said, changes in the Trump’s tone are “always just temporary.""
An article about Trump's goon squad to implement quasi-martial law. America 'staring down the barrel of martial law', Oregon senator warns Ron Wyden says Portland tactics threaten democracy Senator Jeff Merkley deplores ‘military-style assault’ Former Ice head: Trump is using agents as his ‘goon squad’ David Smith and Daniel Strauss in Washington Sat 25 Jul 2020 02.00 EDT America 'staring down the barrel of martial law', Oregon senator warns excerpt: "Merkley argued that with past targets such as Islamic State and undocumented migrants losing their potency, Trump has settled on African Americans in inner cities to be his latest scapegoats. “I think it’s also important to note the president we’ve always known has this intense authoritarian streak,” he said. “He loved and had so much affection for the leader of North Korea, Putin in Russia. Just admiration for some of the tactics in the Philippines with Duterte and Erdoğan in Turkey, by the crown prince in Saudi Arabia.”"
I guess if I was pressed for an opinion, I’m against politicians sending in federal troops against the wishes of a governor to tear gas moms as a campaign stunt.
Trump tried the federal agent surge on a caravan of migrants from Central America in 2018 to try to score political points ahead of the midterm elections. He came up empty. This time he has upped the ante and is targeting blacks in cities run by Democratic mayors. Made-for-TV fascism: how Trump’s ‘crime explosion’ ploy could backfire Trump is facing a big election with an even bigger need for a political masterstroke – enter a surge of federal agents to fight supposed violence Tom McCarthy Sat 25 Jul 2020 06.00 EDT Made-for-TV fascism: how Trump’s ‘crime explosion’ ploy could backfire excerpt: "Seizing on television images of a procession of refugees out of Honduras, the president announced an imminent “invasion” of the United States by a “migrant caravan” and said he would deploy 15,000 military personnel to stop it. For weeks, Fox News blared “coverage” of the emergency. That was in October 2018, and as a political strategy ahead of the midterm elections, the gambit utterly failed. The Democrats flipped 40 seats in the House of Representatives the next month and racked up the largest popular vote margin in midterm elections history, on the highest turnout in 100 years. The “caravan” emergency was heard of no more. Now two years later, Trump is facing an even bigger election, with an even bigger need for a political masterstroke if he is to win a second term in November. Instead of deploying troops to the border to confront a made-up threat, Trump has announced “a surge of federal law enforcement into American communities” to fight a supposed cataclysm of violence born of a Democratic plot to undermine local police."
Trump also resurrected his coronavirus briefings, albeit a perverted version with only himself appearing. Trump Bends To Reality, Buckles Under Political Pressure Domenico Montanaro July 25, 2020 7:00 AM ET Trump Bends To Reality, Buckles Under Political Pressure excerpt: "Let's recap. This week, as NPR's Ayesha Rascoe recounted on NPR's Morning Edition Friday, Trump: Endorsed wearing masks, calling it "patriotic" after resisting wearing them publicly for months. Acknowledged that the pandemic will likely get worse before it gets better after months of dismissing its seriousness. Backed away from his insistence that schools reopen this fall, having previously threatened to pull what small federal funding schools receive. Canceled the in-person Republican National Convention that was supposed to take place in Jacksonville, Fla., after lambasting North Carolina's governor for not being able to guarantee that an in-person convention could be allowed to take place in his state by August. And though Trump made fun of Democrats for planning a virtual convention, the GOP convention will now be largely virtual, too. Make no mistake, this is Trump politically crying uncle."
Before the coronavirus struck, Trump was making remarks like he didn't even want to participate in the presidential debates. Now his administration is calling for more than the three that were originally scheduled. It's a sign that he feels has has little to lose and could only gain in his desperate situation. Trump Bends To Reality, Buckles Under Political Pressure excerpt: "Trump is not one to yield or bow to pressure. But this is the lowest point of his presidency politically — and now, not even he can deny the trouble he's in, even if his team isn't saying so publicly. If you don't believe the polls, just look at the body language. Trump's campaign has been asking for more debates than the already-allocated three with Biden, his campaign manager was demoted, and now there's this reboot effort."
