I agree, back in the sixties, the press questioned everything about what was being done in Vietnam. If it wasn't for investigative journalism, Watergate would have been just another break in. I once heard the Dean of the USC school of journalism say that investigative journalism wasn't a priority. The emphasis was social media.
After all the knuckleheaded mistakes Trump has made about the virus, he was still in Fauci smear mode in July. He said to Hannity on Fox on July 9 was that Fauci “is a nice man, but he’s made a lot of mistakes.” It took until July 24 for Trump to finally acquiesce to Fauci and tacitly admit that Fauci was correct. Trump canceled the RNC convention in FL, retracted his threat to take away federal money from schools that didn't fully reopen, admitted that face coverings are useful after ridiculing Biden for wearing them, and admitted that the virus will likely worsen before it improves after belittling it for months. Trump squandered months with his internal mental masturbations that made him feel good about the virus.

With all due respect to Shallow Hal, if he offered a million dollars I might just consider the proposal. Buy that lakeside cabin in the North Woods of Maine for some recreational fishing and hunting But then again we’re talking about Trump here aren't we? So Nah,...lol...
Three days after announcing he would, Trump changed his mind and says he won't throw out the first pitch in NY on August 15 because he will be too busy working on the coronavirus (playing golf). Trump went golfing with football star Brett Favre this weekend at his NJ resort while hurricane Hanna hit Texas and the U.S. coronavirus death count was reaching 150,000. Trump should consider inviting Fauci and Birx to his golf outings for better optics.
Like Trump, DeSantis talked like he had the coronavirus under control. DeSantis accused the media of exaggerating the virus risk in Florida by saying that the virus cases and deaths, which were lower at the time, didn't fit the narrative that the media wanted. He's now eating his words like Trump. Florida voters losing faith in DeSantis, new poll finds DeSantis, among several Republican governors who pushed in May to quickly reopen their states, has seen his approval rating dip as Florida experiences one of the worst outbreaks. By David Smiley Published Jul. 23, 2020 Updated Jul. 23, 2020 Florida voters losing faith in DeSantis, new poll finds excerpt: "Once one of the most popular governors in the country, Ron DeSantis is losing his standing among Florida voters as the state’s coronavirus outbreak reaches new, alarming levels. DeSantis, among several Republican governors who pushed in May to quickly reopen their states from pandemic-driven lock-downs, has seen his approval rating dip as Florida experiences one of the worst outbreaks in the country. On Thursday, as the Florida Department of Health reported a state record 173 COVID-19 deaths, a new poll released by Quinnipiac University put DeSantis’ favorability rating at a new low, with 41 percent of voters approving of his job performance and 52 percent disapproving. The numbers reflect a 31-point drop in DeSantis’ approval rating from a poll the university conducted in late April."
Trump's formidable border wall just got knocked down by hurricane Hanna. God must like Mexicans just fine?
The coronavirus and Trump's lackluster approach to addressing it defanged him. Trump’s Summer of Love Is a Distant Memory Now Can the president win in November without the rallies that first drove his supporters wild four years ago? By MICHAEL KRUSE 07/27/2020 04:30 AM EDT Trump’s Summer of Love Is a Distant Memory Now excerpt: "In retrospect, it’s a day that’s emblematic of the zeal his campaign was busy whipping up at this juncture in 2016—and a reminder, too, of a major reason his reelection effort is so conspicuously groping now. Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic is what’s principally sinking his approval ratings and chances at the ballot box, but it’s true as well that all but gone is so much of what fueled Trump’s bid four years back—the freewheeling ability to hopscotch the country, the long lines and the packed venues, the relentless trolling of his equally mobile rival. These tools he used to foment such fervor have been rendered moot, at this point in 2020 his rapid-fire rallies less frequent, less full, tele-bland or outright postponed, and his pined-for convention coronation called off on account of Covid-19. On Monday, the president is scheduled to visit a lab facility in North Carolina’s Research Triangle, and on Wednesday he’ll be in Texas for a fundraising lunch, a roundtable of supporters and a tour of an oil rig—not exactly MAGA rallies. “It’s constrained what he can do and what kind of energy and enthusiasm and the like that he can generate,” Jesse Ferguson, a Democratic strategist who was a senior spokesman for the Clinton campaign, told me—going so far as to compare the contrast to dueling images of Trump gliding down the gilded escalator in Trump Tower to announce his candidacy and then his much-discussed “sort of sad descent” of that ramp at West Point last month.
Trump’s Summer of Love Is a Distant Memory Now excerpt: "“For every strongman, if you read anything about how these strongmen operate, it’s always the razor’s edge between being the strongest person in the world and being the weakest person in the world,” Reed Galen, the former Republican consultant who co-founded the Lincoln Project, told me. “Because it’s an act for the most part.” And Trump sans ‘16-esque rallies? “It ties his hands,” Stainbrook said. “His need for affirmation from a roaring crowd reminds me of Tinker Bell needing claps,” Ferguson said, nodding to the so-called “Tinkerbell effect,” the notion that something exists only because of an audience’s belief. “But even if he could generate a big rally, it would not be able to overcome that failure to respond to the pandemic.” None of the strategists I talked to for this story, from either party, was willing, however, to guarantee a Trump loss. “No way,” Shrum said. Not after November 2016. “I mean, look,” Galen granted, “I thought Hillary was going to get 340 electoral votes.”"

President Trump Pulls Out of Yankees 1st Pitch Next Month excerpt: "The August 15th game against the Boston Red Sox would have marked the first time Trump has taken part in the tradition that every president since William Howard Taft in 1910 has done. One of the most famous presidential first pitches took place at the old Yankee Stadium, when President George W. Bush had the honors before Game 3 of the 2001 World Series, less than two months after the 9/11 terror attacks. It would also have been Trump's first appearance at a baseball game since Game 5 of the World Series last year, where he was shown on the jumbotron at Nationals Park. The reaction was mixed at best, receiving a smattering of applause with loud boos, and a cheer of "Lock Him Up.""

Guess they could use the "Bowling Green Massacre" because we never had an accurate count... "Could have been millions, some people are saying this" There's also the loss of life securing those airfields during the Revolutionary War.... I'm sure they will make up something....
