"The Trump administration says the U.S. will not participate in a global push to develop a COVID-19 vaccine, in part because the effort is led by the World Health Organization, which the White House describes as "corrupt" and has accused of initially aiding China in covering up the scope of the pandemic.

By refusing to take part, the U.S. is effectively cutting itself off from the more than 170 countries in discussions to join the COVID-19 Vaccine Global Access Facility, or COVAX. The initiative is "aimed at working with vaccine manufacturers to provide countries worldwide equitable access to safe and effective vaccines" and is co-led by the WHO, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations and the vaccine alliance GAVI.

At best, it'll likely be months before a U.S. vaccine for the SARS-CoV-2 virus will be authorized for widespread distribution. The coronavirus has infected well over 6 million Americans and killed nearly 185,000. Nearly 858,000 people worldwide have died from COVID-19.

"The United States will continue to engage our international partners to ensure we defeat this virus, but we will not be constrained by multilateral organizations influenced by the corrupt World Health Organization and China," White House spokesman Judd Deere said in a statement."

 

Translation: "The United States will continue to engage our international partners to ensure we defeat this virus, and buy and/or steal the total supply of vaccine once it becomes available."

 

Trump sounded supportive of the 600-car caravan of his supporters with paint ball guns and pepper spray that descended on Portland, clashed with rivals, and preceded a shooting death.

He likes caravans of vigilantes supporting him but not Fox News reports of a caravan of migrants in Mexico heading toward the U.S. which scared Trump so much that he sent 5200 troops to the border.

Trump's behavior is similar to that of governor Rhodes of Ohio who interrupted his regular campaign schedule to visit Kent in 1970 and made an inflammatory law-and-order speech to try to capitalize on the campus unrest. The shooting of students happened two days after his visit. The day after the shooting, Rhodes lost the primary in Ohio for a U.S. Senate seat.

 

Trump's October 2018 maneuver of sending 5200 troops to the border didn't seem to help Republicans in the midterms.

It's questionable whether his concoction of a civil war in the U.S. will help him in 2020.

Trump makes it sound like a simple solution exists and may be available sooner than expected (for the ongoing coronavirus deaths that he and others talked about at the RNC convention as if the disaster had already happened and he had already solved it).
