I became fully veggie but not vegan at the start of the year. Prior to that I was flexitarion which is a half way stage and just hate white meat.. I havnt eaten red meat for some 3 years now as the fats contained in it are harmful particularly in guys my age as they can encourage heart conditions . Women tend to cope with fats better. Being seme veggie and veggie also helps in keeping the weight off and changing my diet has helped me to lose 6 and a half stone some 7 years ago . I have kept the weight off as it became a lifestyle choice for me and not a crash diet. I also workout everyday which also helps .

There is also the issue of the way animals are slaughtered as well and the very poor conditions they are sometimes kept in . China has a history of keeping animals in poor conditions for human consumption and there is a possible link to this on how Covid started .

You are completely right. Most of our Animals are now sent to France to be slaughtered, as many of our abattoirs were closed down.

The irony of all this is that my wifes' late father was a butcher and she is also veggie . Her brother is also veggie .

I wonder if it was that fact that made them vegetarian?

Sorry, I am a real carnivore, although I also eat many veggie meals.

Not really. My partner wanted to lose weight but she didn't want to do it by working out . So she changed her diet again at the beginning of the year almost overnight. I think she was watching a programme about families living with animals with the option of eating them after . I think this disturbed her somewhat. .

Her brother was a different case as his partner was pescitarian ( fish and veggie ) so he had no choice ! She won't cook meat.

I have no problems with meat eaters . At end of the day its my choice .

Changing the subject ever so slightly

When I started losing weight . I looked into the ideal calorific intake . To lose weight healthily it was recommended that a calorific intake of around 1300 -1500 calories was the way to do it. Eating under this value was deemed as being a possible risk to health and in only extreme cases under medical supervision was this to be done .

Yet the government are rolling out a diet scheme of 800 calories to combat obesity/type 2 Diabetes fuelled by the link to obesity and Covid mortality rates. . I will be monitoring this to see how it develops .

The main problem with it as far as I can see apart from the low calories is that once a person comes off this diet they will go back to their old eating habits. Diets don't work and experts have been banging their heads against a wall in saying this . The only way to keep weight off is good old fashioned diet and exercise and it has to be a lifestyle choice and not a fad.

Firstly the Government and health advisors lowered the rates for potential type 2 diabetes. They did this when the sugar tax was implemented.

I have never been overweight. I stop when I feel full.

    Which government? :)
I don't know about that. I'm not into "The Keto Diet" or any specialty diet, but I think Weight Watchers has merit. They (Weight Watchers) teach you how many calories are in your food. I observe a plant-based diet myself.
That's the method I use. I'm a twice-a-day jogger most of the time. It's part of my routine, and I lose pretty consistently, but it goes back up when, for example, I eat something salty, or most recently, when the auto repair place gifts to me a bag of candy peanuts that I simply can't resist. :D

Sorry my fault. The UK Government .

I think everyone has vices. and I look at it as a reward for working out . Mine is cask beer .

That's a good practice to get into . Another is not to have set meal times . I just eat when I am hungry and not when the clock chooses .

Candy- Do you work out at all ? This is the best way of keeping your weight in check and pumping of the heart as well.

That is a big misconception about a salad . You can have a roast beef salad or chicken salad if you want to. What counts is what you put in it . My personal favourite is the Waldorf salad because I like nuts .

I have even picked your outfit .

I miss the dancing side of things as I am a Northern Soul dancer but everything is locked down at the moment and so I can only dream for the day we can restart.

No, no, no - all salad is rabbit food - I want 'proper' stodge - suet dumplings in a stew, or steak & Kidney pudding with veg and tatties, or full roast with roast tatties, parsnips & carrots.

However there is another big irony in all of this.

The ( UK ) Government are trying to tackle obesity for the reasons given .

However it was the Government that closed all the gyms, sports facilities, dance/clubbing halls for the lockdown. Some of the very tools that people needed to combat obesity .On top of that workplaces were closed down which also kept people active. Instead many got furlough flab as a result. I gained 4 pounds but have since lost it .I blame my weight gain on many visits to the fridge eating Quorn cocktail sausages and Weight Watchers Cheese Lol

This is a great thread by the way as anything goes
