Nashville police make first arrest for not wearing mask

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — People who refuse to wear masks in downtown Nashville can now end up behind bars. A man was charged with violating health regulations after Tennessee authorities said they
twice spotted him defying the capital city’s mask order on the same day that police committed to stricter enforcement.

Joseph Bryant, 61, was booked into the Davidson County sheriff’s office jail at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, news outlets reported, citing an arrest warrant.

Metro Nashville officers first cited him in the popular Broadway area, where he was warned to put a mask on, but walked away without doing so, Metro police spokesman Don Aaron
said. Bryant had two masks in his pocket at the time, Aaron added.

He was arrested less than two hours later when officers again witnessed him without a mask, and believed the “defiant behavior would continue” if Bryant was only given a second citation, according to Aaron.

Bryant had not posted his $500 bond Thursday morning but did have an attorney representing him, according to records obtained by The Tennessean.

Is Trump trying to kill-off his voting base?

Trump holds campaign rally indoors despite coronavirus concerns

HENDERSON, Nev. (Reuters) - President Donald Trump held a Nevada campaign rally at an indoor venue on Sunday despite public health professionals' warnings against large indoor gatherings during the coronavirus pandemic.

Trump, a Republican, railed against his Democratic rival, former Vice President Joe Biden, suggesting he was taking drugs and was soft on crime. "Biden wants to appease domestic terrorists and my plan is to arrest domestic terrorists," Trump said to an enthusiastic crowd. "If Biden wins, the mob wins."

People in the crowd were seated close together and many did not wear masks.

Biden has criticized Trump for holding campaign events that put people at risk of contracting the coronavirus, which has killed more than 194,000 people in the United States.

"I think we're relatively safe here. I brought a mask but I haven't felt the need to wear it," said Ronda Livingston, 64.

    "I'm not worried about it."

Trump, who is trailing Biden in national polls and in Nevada, has stepped up the frequency of his rallies in recent weeks, but has held most of them at outdoor venues or in large open airplane hangars to help minimize risk.

Well you’re the one who has been pushing the narrative that the virus is more lethal in colder weather

Well this upcoming weekend we’re expecting our first frost of the season, so we have begun the transition from summer to fall.

I reported this case a couple of weeks ago when there was only 1 death associated with this super-spreader event. The number of dead is now up to seven although this article only indicates 5.

The pastor is a Trump supporter, still holds services without social distancing and wearing masks, and believes the virus is a hoax.

Fifth COVID-19 Fatality Linked to Maine Wedding As Pastor Gets Death Threats

More than 160 coronavirus cases, including five deaths, have been linked to a wedding and reception in the Millinocket area of Maine, according to the state's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Four of the five COVID-19 deaths were reported at the Maplecrest Rehabilitation and Living Center, a nursing home in the town of Madison in Somerset County. The virus was allegedly introduced to the nursing home after a worker contracted it from a parent, who was infected by a child who attended the August wedding, according to Maine's WGME.

The Maine CDC says that, as of Sunday, 13 staff members and 15 residents have also been infected at the facility.

The pastor who officiated the wedding, Todd Bell of Calvary Baptist Church in Sanford, and his family have reportedly received death threats, with criminal investigations pending,

Study says Covid-19 may have arrived in US in December -- earlier than thought

The deadly coronavirus may have circulated in the United States as early as December, about a month earlier than believed by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to researchers with UCLA.

Their study, published last Thursday in the Journal of Medical Internet Research, found a statistically significant increase in clinic and hospital visits by patients who reported respiratory illnesses as early as the week of December 22.
The first known case of Covid-19 in the US was thought to be a patient in Washington who had visited Wuhan, China, according to the CDC. The case was reported in January.

Dr. Joann Elmore and colleagues looked through nearly 10 million medical records from the UCLA Health system, including three hospitals and 180 clinics.

Seniors could be asked to sell family home under death tax

Baby Boomers could be asked to sell the family home when they die to pay for aged care costs under a new plan to slap an effective death tax on seniors to fund care.

Former Treasurer Peter Costello has urged the Morrison Government to consider an expanded pensioner loans scheme during his appearance today at the Royal Commission into Aged Care.

Under the proposal, seniors would be given the option of taking out a loan secured against the family home, that would then be sold when they died or other assets liquidated.

Coronavirus kills far more Hispanic and Black children than White youths, CDC study finds

The coronavirus is killing Hispanic, Black and American Indian children at much higher numbers than their White peers, according to federal statistics released Tuesday.
The numbers — the most comprehensive U.S. accounting to date of pediatric infections and fatalities — show there have been 391,814 known cases and 121 deaths among people under the age of 21 from February to July.

Of those killed by covid-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus, more than 75 percent have been Hispanic, Black and American Indian children, even though they represent 41 percent of the U.S. population, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The federal agency collected data from health departments throughout the country.

The disproportionate deaths among youths echo pandemic disparities well-documented among adults. Previous studies have found the virus’s death toll is twice as high among people of color under age 65 as for White Americans. People of color also disproportionately make up “excess deaths” — those killed by the virus without being diagnosed or those killed indirectly by the virus’s wide effects on the health-care system.

70,000 Australian virus cases potentially undetected

As many as 70,000 Australians could've been infected with COVID-19 since the pandemic began and gone undetected, researchers have predicted.

A team at the Australian National University (ANU) have developed a new blood test that captures previous exposure to coronavirus, with initial results suggesting many more Australians have been exposed to the virus than detected.

“Our best estimate is that around 0.28 per cent of Australians – one in 350 – had been infected with SARS-CoV-2 by that time (just before Australia’s second wave of outbreaks),” Associate Professor Ian Cockburn, who co-led the research, said.

“This suggests that instead of 11,000 cases we know about from nasal swab testing, about 70,000 people had been exposed overall.”
