A Republican Lawmaker for Whom the Spectacle Is the Point

    excerpt:

"WASHINGTON — As lawmakers entered the Capitol on Wednesday for one of the most solemn enterprises in American government, the impeachment of a president, Rep. Lauren Boebert was causing a spectacle before even making it into the chamber. She pushed her way through newly installed metal detectors and ignored police officers who asked her to stop so they could check her with a hand-held wand.

This reprised a standoff from the evening before, when Boebert, a freshman Republican from Colorado, refused to show guards what was inside her handbag as she entered the building. In both cases, she was eventually granted access, but not before engineering a made-for-Twitter moment that delighted the far right."

Ted Cruz suffers Capitol-riot backlash, with a top aide resigning and a call to add him to the FBI no-fly list

    excerpt:

"Republican Sen. Ted Cruz is facing a growing backlash from congressional colleagues who say he was partly responsible for the riot at the US Capitol last Wednesday, with reports suggesting he could face a formal censure.

There have been multiple calls for Cruz to resign since he spoke on the Senate floor last week to argue for an audit of November's presidential election - part of a wider effort to overturn Joe Biden's election victory in favor of President Donald Trump. Shortly after Cruz's speech, hundreds of Trump supporters breached police lines and stormed the Capitol building.

Cruz's communications director, Lauren Blair Bianchi, resigned in response to Cruz's efforts to overturn the election result, Punchbowl News reported on Tuesday. A source close to Bianchi told the publication that the senator was "moving in a direction that she was not comfortable with."

Several Democratic lawmakers, including Sens. Patty Murray, Chris Coons, Sherrod Brown, and Sheldon Whitehouse, have called for Cruz and Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley to resign, citing the senators' vocal opposition to the certification of the election result before the violence at the Capitol last week."

Perhaps Trump thinks they would have looked better if they had worn three-piece suits while smashing Capitol windows and beating police with the metal pipes of Trump flags.

The Right wing: Always obey a policeman's orders...

Also the Right wing: Rep. Lauren Boebert causing a spectacle, refused to show guards what was inside her handbag as she entered the building.

Tampering with the panic button boxes would be expected to set a flag on the security system, similar to someone covering the lens of a security camera or removing it.

If someone tampered with the panic buttons before the riot, it raises questions about how it went undetected by security or if it was detected by security officials who didn't respond to the issue.

If it was part of maintenance, it's curious why Pressley apparently wasn't informed about it.

It looks suspicious that the panic buttons that went missing were issued to Pressley as part of heightened security due to Trump and his supporters engaging in a campaign of insults against her.

Trump tells aides not to pay Giuliani's legal fees: report

    excerpt:

"Giuliani did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a close ally of the president who has spoken with Trump in recent days, told the Post that Trump has come to terms with his election defeat.

“The president has come to grips with it’s over,” Graham told the Post. “That’s tough. He thinks he was cheated, but nothing’s going to change that.”

The apparent end of the president's efforts to legally challenge the results of the presidential election comes nearly two months after the election itself and days after a mob of his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in a violent riot that resulted in five deaths, including a Capitol Police officer. A second officer responding to the scene died days later."

Retired firefighter accused of throwing fire extinguisher at officers during Capitol riot arrested

    excerpt:

"The retired firefighter who appears to be the man caught on camera throwing a fire extinguisher that hit at least three officers at the Capitol during a riot was arrested Thursday, officials said.

Robert Sanford, of Chester, Pa., faces three federal felony charges including assaulting a police officer, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Video footage of the incident shows the man hurling a fire extinguisher at officers attempting to control a mob outside of the west side of the Capitol."

The FBI has been pursuing charges against dozens of suspects in the riots, many of whom were identified through photos and videos circulating on social media-- some posted by participants themselves.
