Donald Trump Is Rapidly Losing His Grip on Public Attention, New Study Shows | National Review

    excerpt:

"If attention is currency, former president Donald Trump is going broke.

Trump has largely lost his status as one of the nation’s top newsmakers since leaving office and being deplatformed by the major social media platforms, according to a new analysis, raising questions about whether the former president will be able to maintain his stranglehold over the public conversation — the stranglehold that propelled him to victory in 2016 — as he eyes a potential 2024 bid.

Trump’s media attention has been so lacking, in fact, that he has broken the bottom of SocialFlow’s Trump Index — a scale that measures social media engagements on stories pertaining to Trump on a 100 to zero scale, with “100” measuring peak attention. The scale is calibrated so that a 50 represents the score Trump received during an average day during his final year in office.

SocialFlow, a company that publishes content to social media platforms for more than 300 media outlets, including the New York Times and Washington Post, found that while Trump hit “100” on the scale on the day after the Capitol riot, he has notched a score of less than one on many days since leaving office.

The analysis comes as the question of how Trump will wield his influence looms heavy over U.S. politics, especially in the Republican party. While some Republicans, like Representative Liz Cheney (R., Wyo.), have pushed to leave Trump behind, others have remained more loyal to the former president. Representative Dan Crenshaw (R., Texas) argued last month that the party can’t “excommunicate” the former president."

Bargain hunters pounce as Trump condo prices hit decade lows

    excerpt:

"NEW YORK (AP) — The building has stunning Manhattan skyline views, its spa offers deep-tissue massages, and the fancy restaurant off the lobby serves up prime steaks. Best of all, many apartments at the Trump World Tower are selling at a deep discount — assuming the buyer doesn’t mind the name over the door.

“Fifty percent of the people wouldn’t want to live in a Trump building for any reason ... but then there are guys like me,” says Lou Sollecito, a car dealer who recently bought a two-bedroom unit with views of the Empire State Building. “It’s a super buy.”

The purchase price was $3 million, nearly a million less than the seller paid in 2008.

Bargain hunters are swooping in to take advantage of prices in Trump buildings that have dropped to levels not seen in over a decade, a crash brokers attribute to a combination of the former president’s polarizing image and the coronavirus pandemic. It’s a stunning reversal for a brand that once lured the rich and famous willing to pay a premium to live in a building with Trump’s gilded name on it."

Manhattan DA brought Trump Organization controller to testify before special grand jury: Sources

    excerpt:

"One of the most senior officials in the Trump Organization has testified before a special grand jury empaneled by the Manhattan District Attorney's office to hear evidence against former President Donald Trump and his company, sources with direct knowledge of the matter told ABC News.

Jeff McConney is among a number of witnesses that have already appeared before the special grand jury that will decide whether criminal charges are warranted against the former president, his company or any of its employees, the sources said.

McConney, who serves as a senior vice president and controller for the Trump Organization, is the first employee of the former president's company called to testify, the sources said, and his testimony is a sign that prosecutors have burrowed deep into the company's finances."

Trump is said to be trying hard to recruit politicians and journalists to back the baseless theory he will be reinstated as president

    excerpt:

"Former President Donald Trump is said to be "trying hard" to recruit politicians and journalists to promote his baseless theory that he will be reinstated as president this year, National Review reported.

Charles C.W. Cooke, a senior reporter for National Review, said he had confirmed the New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman's reporting on the subject.

"Haberman's reporting was correct," he wrote. "I can attest, from speaking to an array of different sources, that Donald Trump does indeed believe quite genuinely that he - along with former senators David Perdue and Martha McSally - will be 'reinstated' to office this summer."

He added: "Trump is trying hard to recruit journalists, politicians, and other influential figures to promulgate this belief - not as a fundraising tool or an infantile bit of trolling or a trial balloon, but as a fact.""

Plus Trump's radical, violent insurrection at the Capitol that Pence (whose life was threatened) now portrays as a minor blemish and an event that he seems to think was needed to stop what he perceives as the 'radical left'.

I agree. MSM should have ignored him beginning in 2016, but his outrages outrageous behavior made money for them.

I wonder, if these proposed rallies of his fail miserably, will that finally convince him to give it up and focus on his legal challenges as he should be doing?

Not a chance. He'll say the rallies are the biggest in world history, much like those phantom crowds at his inauguration.

Trump vows revenge on Zuckerberg when he's back in the White House.

Trump vows revenge on Facebook’s Zuckerberg when he’s ‘back in the White House’

    excerpt:

"Donald Trump has vowed revenge on Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg when he’s “back in the White House” as he dropped another hint he will run in 2024.

The former president reacted angrily towards the social media giant’s CEO after Facebook banned him from using its platforms until at least January 2023."

Trouble is, his following has always been a minority, but the system is gerry rigged to give rural minorities the lion's share of government power, and the Retrumplican crazies are using it to further rig the electoral system while crying about "stolen" elections.

Or if the rallies are small enough it might convince more Republicans to realize they're backing the wrong horse. Shit, can you imagine it they get huge attendance? Then we're fucked.

Trump and the GOP are on a campaign to have PA throw out Biden votes and pass restrictive voting legislation.

GOP fight over 2020 election audit brews in Pennsylvania

    excerpt:

"HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A key member of Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives is flatly rejecting talk of any sort of audit of the 2020 presidential election, a day after three fellow Republican state lawmakers toured the Arizona Senate GOP’s audit.

Rep. Seth Grove, R-York, who chairs the committee that handles election matters, said on Twitter on Thursday that the chamber “will not be authorizing any further audits on any previous election.”

Two of those visiting lawmakers, Sens. Cris Dush and Doug Mastriano, say they want something similar carried out in Pennsylvania.

They will have trouble getting anything through Gov. Tom Wolf, a Democrat, who dismissed their trip to Arizona as an “effort to discredit the integrity of our elections” and “an insult to our county election workers and to Pennsylvania voters.”

“As counties call on the General Assembly to act on election reform, GOP state lawmakers are chasing conspiracy theories across the country,” Wolf said on Twitter."

GOP fight over 2020 election audit brews in Pennsylvania

    excerpt:

"Grove and Argall hope to shepherd through election legislation in June.

But prospects are iffy, with Democrats opposing anything they see as limiting access to voting and Republicans signaling that they want to strengthen voter ID requirements.

Some Republicans are calling for the repeal of Pennsylvania’s 2019 expansive mail-in voting law.

Cutler has sponsored legislation to establish a bureau of election audits under the auditor general to conduct “result-confirming audits” of future elections, to be completed 18 days after an election.

Grove on Thursday described Pennsylvania’s election law as “broken,” but county officials say two changes to mail-in voting provisions would solve the majority of their problems in administering elections.""

Trump suggests he may run for House in 2022 to become speaker: "very interesting"

    excerpt:

"Former President Donald Trump suggested he would consider running for a House seat in 2022 in a bid to become Speaker of the House and launch an impeachment investigation against President Joe Biden.

Trump commented on the idea during an interview broadcast by far-right radio host Wayne Allyn Root on Friday afternoon. Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon first touted the idea of Trump running for Congress to take over as Speaker of the House back in February. Root raised the idea with Trump directly during his interview.

"Why not, instead of waiting for 2024, and I'm hoping you'll run in 2024 but why not run in 2022 for the United States Congress? A House seat in Florida. Win big. Lead us to a dramatic landslide victory. Take the House by 50 seats. And then you become the Speaker of the House, lead the impeachment of Biden and start criminal investigations against Biden. You'll wipe him out for this last two years," Root said with excitement."

Silenced On Facebook And Twitter, Trump Is Set To Speak Out Again On Campaign Trail

    excerpt:

"Though Trump brought many voters into the fold, there are plenty of reasons why Republicans might think twice about nominating him to be their standard-bearer again. Those include:
    • He lacks a discipline that many Republicans privately — and some publicly — believe made it harder for them to pass policies conservatives care about;
    • some Republicans have grown tired of the chaos he brings — even if they agree with him on policy;
    • he would be 78 years old if he were to win in 2024, the same age President Biden is now;
    • his favorability ratings with independents are abysmally low; and
    • only one other president has won a second term after losing a reelection bid, Grover Cleveland, more than a century ago.
"I'll be really curious to see how many candidates want to campaign with him in a general election," said Alex Conant, a founding partner at the consulting firm Firehouse Strategies, and former communication director for Marco Rubio's 2016 presidential campaign.

But when it comes to a Republican presidential primary, Trump is better-positioned than anyone else in the party. Everyone knows who he is — and name recognition is critically important — and Republicans love him."

Trump is implying he’s still president in fundraising messages

    excerpt:

"“What kind of delusional world does Trump live in?” one wrote.

Joe Biden has been president of the United States since 20 January, after handily beating Mr Trump in the 2020 US election. Since then, Mr Trump has peddled the lie that the election was stolen, but failed to gain any traction in dozens of court cases trying to prove it.

The Trump fundraising team does not appear to live in that reality. Its messages and surveys notably do not refer to Mr Biden as “president,” but do so for Mr Trump.

“Who do you believe is a better fit to lead our Nation?” one survey question asks. The two choices offered are “President Trump” or “Joe Biden.”"
