Then he'll get publicly called out on it, getting even worse and more erratic, finally getting indicted then leaving the country - maybe head to Brazil so he can live with his idol, Hitler.

Trump wants someone who is the most in his likeness. It would likely cost him the moderate electorate, similar to what happened in the 2020 election when he lost the white suburban vote. Late in the campaign, Trump made desperate pleas to white suburban women to love him and made statements that he saved their neighborhoods from being taken over by the minorities and made their dishwashers work again. The pleas didn't work, even with Pence on the ticket.
