But the court did not reach those questions, because it said the lawsuit was improper. The GOP Congress essentially removed the individual mandate in 2017 as part of the corporate tax cut that Congress drafted when they still controlled the House and that Trump signed into law. It has been said to have been the only major Trump-promoted legislative passage of his administration (healthcare, infrastructure, immigration, trade, and education saw no major Trump-promoted legislative passages). The mandate was reduced to zero by the Republicans when they controlled the Senate by using a simple majority because it was considered to be a budgetary matter due to the way the ACA was written. The mandate itself wasn't explicitly removed but rather reduced to zero. Trying to argue that the ACA is unconstitutional because Congress reduced the mandate to zero is a long shot. Though some of them applauded Trump for it, removal of the mandate likely hurt the lower income segment of Trump's base.
Grandmother who took part in Capitol riot pleads for leniency saying she is 'horrified' by violence excerpt: "A 49-year-old grandmother who participated in the Capitol riot told a judge that she was "horrified" by the violent images of insurrectionists on 6 January in an attempt to gain a lighter sentence. Anna Morgan Lloyd was arrested in February after she and a friend, Dona Bissey, posted a picture of themselves on Facebook bragging that they had entered the US Capitol during the insurrection. Shortly after the event she described the attack as the "best f****** day ever” and that she and her friend were one of the first 50 people inside the building. However, her tone was markedly different as she pleaded for a lighter sentence for a judge."
Yeah, prior to the 2016 election there were reports of hundreds of contractors who claimed were stiffed by trump all through the 1980s and 90s, and when they threatened to sue he would hire a law firm to protect him - then he would stiff the law firms out of their full pay. His MO was clear. he would hire a contractor for a set price and after they completed the work, he would claim they did a lousy job and only pay them 70 cents on the dollar.
Someone should compile a list of the funniest explanations and excuses before a judge for storming the capitol

She could have went even further off the wall and said that she was horrified by what she perceived as violence by the police against Trump's law-abiding 'tourists'. Some of Trump's people have talked in that manner.
The attack on the Capitol was intended to stop the nomination of a new President. That meets the definition of an insurgency.

Klein complains that riot footage is making him look bad. Ex-Trump official complains video of his actions at Capitol riot make him look bad excerpt: "A former Donald Trump appointee has complained to a court that footage of him taking part in the US Capitol riots is making him look bad. Federico Guillermo Klein was a staffer on the former president’s 2016 election campaign and a State Department official in the Trump administration. Mr Klein was arrested by the FBI in Virginia in March in connection with the 6 January insurrection that saw Trump supporters attack the US Capitol. Five people, including a police officer, died when the pro-Trump crowd breached the Capitol building after the then-president gave a “Stop the Steal” rally outside the White House."
I am not so sure. I think some of them look upon it as a badge of honor. Others have probably been arrested before so to them it’s nbd.
