I say those on the loony right should be given that strip of states across the bottom from Texas eastward and all federal dollars cut off. -----Oh wait ---when was that--uh---never mind.
The number of Americans that attribute Biden's victory to voter fraud 'has not budged' since November excerpt: "Approximately one-third of Americans continue to believe President Biden won the election due to voter fraud, a new Monmouth University poll found — "a number that has not budged since the November election." "The continuing efforts to question the validity of last year's election is deepening the partisan divide in ways that could have long-term consequences for our democracy, even if most Americans don't quite see it that way yet," said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute. Relatedly, 64 percent of Republicans (up 13 percent from 2012) view voter fraud as a "major problem," while just 10 percent of Democrats (down 13 percent from 2012) agree. In that same vein, 61 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning respondents believe the ongoing and planned election result audits to be "legitimate," with one third adding that they will strengthen American democracy. However, "among all other Americans," only 14 percent view the audits as valid. Fifty-five percent believe they will "weaken our democracy.""
New Videos Underscore The Violence Against Police At The Jan. 6 Capitol Riot Meg Anderson June 18, 20217:13 PM ET New Videos Underscore The Violence Against Police At The Jan. 6 Capitol Riot excerpt: "The Justice Department has released a trove of videos, including police body-worn camera footage, allegedly showing assaults against police officers defending the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. The videos, made available after NPR and other media organizations filed a legal motion for their release, are further evidence of the violent nature of the Capitol riot and are cited as evidence in the assault cases against Thomas Webster and Scott Fairlamb. Though the storming of the Capitol was widely covered across virtually all news media and live-streamed by many of the people there, several Republican lawmakers have sought to play down the violence that happened in an attack that left five people dead. But despite the GOP rhetoric, the charges against defendants like Webster and Fairlamb are not an anomaly. Rather, they are part of a larger pattern of violence wrought that day, particularly against the largely outnumbered police officers who were there. Of the more than 500 people now charged in relation to the storming of the Capitol, at least 96 of them, or nearly 1 in 5, are accused of committing acts of violence, according to a database created and maintained by NPR of all the people charged in the riot."
New Videos Underscore The Violence Against Police At The Jan. 6 Capitol Riot excerpt: "In a 56 second video cited in Webster's case, prosecutors say Webster can be seen in a red, white and black jacket approaching a metal barricade. The officer's body-worn camera footage, which is also described in court documents, shows Webster allegedly bursting through the crowd, carrying a large flagpole with a U.S. Marine Corps flag attached to it. In the video, prosecutors say he can be heard yelling: "You f****** piece of s***. You f****** Commie motherf****** ... Come on, take your s*** off. Take your s*** off." Later, Webster can allegedly be seen shoving the metal gate into the officer and lunging toward him, striking at him with the flagpole several times. Prosecutors say he then broke through the barricade, and charged the officer with clenched fists, knocking him to the ground. In an interview with the FBI detailed in court documents, the officer who was assaulted said that he was choked by his own chin strap and was unable to breathe during the time he was on the ground."
New Videos Underscore The Violence Against Police At The Jan. 6 Capitol Riot excerpt: "According to court documents, Webster is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and retired New York City Police Department officer. He is facing seven charges for his alleged involvement in the Capitol riot and has pleaded not guilty on all counts. He is among at least 71 other rioters, or around 14% of all those charged, who appear to have military or law enforcement backgrounds, according to NPR's database."
Did anyone else see this CNN special Assault on Democracy: The Roots of Trump's Insurrection ? It delved into the causes and events leading up to the January 6 riot and includes interviews with some who took part in it, as well as some family members such as Ashli Babbitt's brother. It pulls no punches, talking about lies made by Trump and other Republicans, the delusions his supporters are under and how 5 months after Trump left office he's still stirring up trouble. I thought this thread I'm posting this in would have faded away by now, but the creep just won't stop being a thorn in the country's side. I have to say though, the documentary felt a little forced, and while I agree with almost everything said, it reminded me of propaganda. And I'm sure Trump's supporters will call it just that. I just hope it doesn't turn off people who are more on the fence.
I’ve been meaning to catch this, is it just one episode or a mini series? If Hollywood gets off it’s ass and turn this into a movie, the fence sitters will should be convinced enough
One of the few times Trump showed empathy publicly was when he embraced his rioters at the Capitol, saying they were special people and that he loved them. Apparently, showing empathy for George Floyd, in Trump's mind, presented too much of a risk for losing support from his base. Trump was concerned that publicly showing empathy for George Floyd would indicate weakness to his political base, book says excerpt: ""I know these f---ing cops," Trump said. "They can be rough." Some of the people who heard the comment thought Trump's critique of the police was unusual, reflecting a point of view he never revealed in public, the book says. But Trump didn't think it was his role to display empathy for Floyd, and "he worried that such a display would signal weakness to his base," the book says. Trump then became incensed watching the protests in Minneapolis and across the country. "These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd," he tweeted on May 29. "When the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!" The book says Trump later abandoned an idea to attend Floyd's funeral. Trump's position on race relations deteriorated through that summer and spilled into the 2020 presidential election."
Why do democrats persist in the fantasy that conservatives have a clue as to what the fuck democracy means? Or give a shit for that matter?
Cue the weeping violin music again. Trump Org says de Blasio pulled golf course contract for politics excerpt: "The Trump Organization accused the de Blasio administration of canceling its lucrative Bronx golf course contract because of a long-running political vendetta the lefty mayor has against the former president, according to a suit filed Monday. In papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, the Trump Organization’s operator, Trump Ferry Point LLC, accused the city’s Department of Parks and Recreations of using the Jan. 6 Capitol riots as an excuse to end their business deal. “Mayor de Blasio had a pre-existing, politically-based predisposition to terminate Trump-related contracts, and the city used the events of January 6, 2021 as a pretext to do so,” the suit charges. After the siege, the city claimed the Trump Organization’s “tarnished brand” would stop it from being able to attract professional tournaments to the Bronx course, which they said is a violation of the lease terms, the court papers allege."
Trump Org says de Blasio pulled golf course contract for politics excerpt: "In a statement, a spokesperson for the city’s Law Department said they did nothing wrong in canceling the contract. “The City properly followed the termination process detailed in the contract and we look forward to selecting a new vendor for Ferry Point that will further the best interests of New Yorkers,” the spokesperson said. City Hall and the Parks and Recreation deferred comment to the Law Department."
