So... Like, Trump's government... That kind of totalitarian government? The kind of government DeSantis fully supports...
Where is the ACLU when we really need it? Isn't academic freedom covered under First Amendment free speech?
That sick crazy fuck had to be talked out of invoking the insurrection act of 1807 Trump aides drafted order to invoke Insurrection Act during Floyd protests: report Aides to former President Trump last year reportedly drafted an order that would have allowed him to invoke the Insurrection Act amid the ongoing demonstrations and civil unrest in the wake of the police killing of George Floyd. Trump expressed his interest in doing so to then-Attorney General William Barr, Defense Secretary Mark Esper and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley, who all later talked the commander in chief out of the plan,
Trump wanted U.S. military troops to protect his protesters at the Capitol which turned into a riot. He sat and watched his insurrection on TV for hours before he told his rioters to go home in peace because he loved them and they were special people who had been abused. Trump Wanted Troops to Protect His Supporters at Jan. 6 Rally By Reuters May 12, 2021 https://www.usnews.com/news/world/a...inistration-botched-capitol-riot-preparations excerpt: "(Reuters) -President Donald Trump wanted National Guard troops in Washington to protect his supporters at a Jan. 6 rally that ended with them attacking the U.S. Capitol, leaving five dead, Trump's former Pentagon chief testified on Wednesday. Former Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller told a House of Representatives panel that he spoke with Trump on Jan. 3, three days before the now-former president's fiery speech that preceded the violence and led to his second impeachment. According to Miller's testimony, Trump asked during that meeting whether the District of Columbia's mayor had requested National Guard troops for Jan. 6, the day Congress was to ratify Joe Biden's presidential election victory. Trump told Miller to "fill" the request, the former defense secretary testified. Miller said Trump told him: "Do whatever is necessary to protect demonstrators that were executing their constitutionally protected rights."
As the riot was ending, Trump told his rioters he didn't want them playing into the hands of the people at the Capitol, implying that his rioters were innocent victims who were being abused by members of Congress and the Capitol police whom they were attacking.
He's more qualified than Trump, at least from a political/legislative standpoint. But therein lies the problem: would Trump's people vote for Pence if Trump weren't in the running? Sure, many (most?) Republicans will vote for the GOP candidate, no matter who it is. If Jeffrey Dahmer were running for president as the GOP candidate they'd support him because he's the Republican. But Trump people that think he was a great president are a different breed and if they see someone other than Trump on the ticket, they wouldn't vote at all, imho. Yes, you might figure they'd vote for the Democrat, for for too many Republican voters, that would be an impossibility At any rate, if both men run, Pence would never win the primary between them, so the whole point is moot, I suppose.
Trump's protesters engaged in a vicious combat with police, hitting them with pepper spray, a chair, a fire extinguisher, poles of American flags, and riot shields they stole from them. They weren't expected to act any differently if they had found members of Congress. Protester Shane Jason Woods is accused of chasing a member of the media at the Capitol and tackling him from behind. When the gunshot that killed Ashli Babbitt was heard by people inside the House chamber who were still waiting to be rescued, someone yelled out the instruction to remove badges so that their identity wouldn't be known to Trump's rioters.
Frankly, anyone who could be convinced that they were innocent victims will refuse to see any other point of view or fact. If they believe that the true troublemakers were left-wingers dressed in Maga hats, then what's the sense of trying to reason with them? It's been attempted, right? Aren't there GOP folks that are capable of seeing more than one side of an equation? That there seem to be so few explains how a Donald Trump could be elected POTUS in the first place. I previously couldn't understand how a lifelong con man could attain that position, but seeing the mess at the Capitol showed me.
A Chicago police officer was arrested in connection with Trump's riot. He was wearing a shirt with a Chicago police emblem. Chicago police officer charged in Capitol insurrection By SARA BURNETT June 11, 2021 Chicago police officer charged in Capitol insurrection excerpt: "CHICAGO (AP) — A Chicago police officer charged with breaching the U.S. Capitol and entering a senator’s office during the Jan. 6 insurrection texted photos of himself inside the building while wearing a police department sweatshirt after telling someone he was going to Washington “to save the nation.” Karol Chwiesiuk, 29, was arrested Friday and faces five misdemeanor counts, including entering a restricted building, disrupting government business and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds with the intent to impede a congressional proceeding. Prosecutors allege in a criminal complaint that Chwiesiuk was among a mob of people who broke into and damaged the office of Sen. Jeff Merkley, an Oregon Democrat. They also say that days before he traveled to Washington to attend a rally supporting then-President Donald Trump, Chwiesiuk said in a text to a friend that he was going “to save the nation” and was “Busy planning how to (expletive) up commies.” He later sent photos of himself inside the Capitol, according to prosecutors. Chwiesiuk was on medical leave from the Chicago Police Department when he traveled to Washington for the attack, the complaint states. Along with text messages, he also sent photos of himself inside and outside the Capitol. In them, Chwiesiuk is grinning and wearing a sweatshirt with a Chicago Police Department emblem underneath an unzipped coat."
After the violent acts inflicted by police officer Chwiesiuk and others rioting in the name of Trump, numerous innocent victims had to go on medical leave to recover from their injuries.
Some of the innocent didn't recover. Two police officers committed suicide in the days following the insurrection at the Capitol. On the not so innocent side, one of the Trump's protesters at the Capitol committed suicide by shooting himself in his basement in the days following the riot.
Top Ohio Republicans Skip Trump’s First Post-White House Rally excerpts: "Trump’s rally is in support of former adviser Max Miller, who is running against Rep. Anthony Gonzalez (R-Ohio), one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach the former president earlier this year. Trump has not held a rally since January 6, when he told his supporters to march to the Capitol and “fight like hell.” The rally is one of four the former president is expected to hold this summer. Trump has mostly remained out of the public eye since January, but has begun to attend more public events recently." "Portman, a moderate, has endorsed Gonzalez in the House race, a sign of the proxy battles shaping up between Trump and establishment Republicans. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who feuded with Trump over the January 6 riot, said recently Trump “has his own agenda” when it comes to the 2022 midterms."
Trump warned Wisconsin GOP legislative leaders to support 2020 election audit or be 'quickly run out of office' excerpt: "Former President Donald Trump on Friday put Wisconsin GOP legislative leaders on notice, saying that they would be "primaried" if they don't back an audit of the 2020 presidential election in the critical swing state. Last November, President Joe Biden defeated Trump in Wisconsin by roughly 20,000 votes out of nearly 3.3 million ballots cast. The results were certified with no verifiable evidence of voter fraud. However, with Trump continuing to spread debunked claims of malfeasance months after his electoral loss to Biden, Republican leaders are feeling the heat from the former president's loyalists, many of whom back partisan audits similar to what is occurring in Arizona, another swing state that Trump lost to Biden."
The republican party doesn't have a political agenda anymore. Their only goal is to destroy their own government and, considering how many times they've destroyed the entire world economy, they may succeed. Pence is a joke, like the rest of the republican party, and even Donald Duck was originally a democrat, because the republicans increasingly belong in rubber rooms.
Trump Ohio rally excerpt: "The former president will campaign on behalf of his White House advisor, Max Miller, who is challenging incumbent Rep. Anthony Gonzalez in the 2022 16th Congressional District GOP primary. Gonzalez was one of the few House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump after the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6. Former U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci, who is running for governor against Republican Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, said he will be in attendance, as well as Cleveland businessman Bernie Moreno, who is running for U.S. Senate."
Trump has embarked on a campaign of threatening to remove GOP candidates during primaries if they don't comply with his orders to conduct further audits to his liking in the swing states he lost. He is using his first rally since his January 6, 2021 insurrection at the Capitol to promote Max Miller over Anthony Gonzalez in Ohio who voted to impeach Trump during the U.S. House vote. Trump calls Michigan GOP-backed 2020 election investigation that confirmed Biden’s win a ‘cover up’ excerpt: "The committee wrapped up its investigation after conducting nearly 30 hours of public hearings, hearing testimony from 87 eyewitnesses, experts, and concerned citizens, reviewing over 400 pages of testimony, and subpoenaing key documents from the secretary of state. The 55-page report detailed conspiracy theories and allegations of fraud that had surfaced and included debunking most of them. “Instead of doing a Forensic Audit, they want to investigate the Patriots who have fought for the truth and who are exposing a very possibly Rigged Election,” Trump added. “The truth will come out and RINO’s will pay at the polls, especially with primary voters and expected challenges. Our Country was based on Free and Fair Elections, and that’s what we must have!”"
‘I need a drink’ after Republican talks, says officer beaten in Capitol attack excerpt: "A Washington police officer who suffered a heart attack and a brain injury after being beaten by Trump supporters during the deadly Capitol attack emerged from meeting House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy on Friday to tell reporters: “I need a drink.” “This experience for me is not something that I enjoy doing,” Michael Fanone said. “I don’t want to be up here on Capitol Hill. I want to be with my daughters.” Ten Republicans in the House voted to impeach Donald Trump for inciting the attack on 6 January. But Trump was acquitted in the Senate and under McCarthy the House caucus has remained in line behind the former president and his lie that his defeat by Joe Biden was the result of electoral fraud. Fanone, of the Washington Metropolitan police, rushed to the Capitol when the mob attacked. Beaten and hit with a stun gun, he has since become a leading voice seeking accountability. He visited McCarthy on Friday with Harry Dunn, a member of the US Capitol police, and Gladys Sicknick, the mother of Brian Sicknick, a Capitol police officer who died after the attack. Fanone said he asked the minority leader to “denounce the 21 House Republicans that voted against the gold medal bill”, a move by Congress to recognise the bravery of those who fought to defend it. He also said he asked McCarthy to publicly disavow a comment by Andrew Clyde, a congressman from Georgia who claimed the mob were as well-behaved as tourists. “I found those remarks to be disgusting,” said Fanone, who said earlier this month Clyde refused to talk to him when confronted on Capitol Hill."
Police officer Fanone is fighting an uphill battle with the GOP. In its current state, the GOP is more likely to defend the Chicago police officer who was arrested for rioting for Trump at the Capitol. Chicago cop charged in US Capitol breach, accused of entering a senator’s office
Charges against Trump Organization could be ‘death blow’, ex-impeachment counsel says excerpt: "Prosecutors in New York are closing in on the Trump Organization, the former president’s family business. If they go through on their threats to file criminal charges, that would be a “death blow” to the company, according to a former impeachment lawyer. Officials from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office informed the Trump Organization they are considering filing criminal charges against the company for allegedly mishandling “fringe benefits,” perks like car leases, apartments, and school tuition handed out to top executives, reported The New York Times."
