The stereotypical image of the haggard witch with a pointy black hat and warty nose stirring a magical potion in her cauldron actually stems from a pagan goddess known as "the crone," who was honored during Samhain. The crone was also known as "the old one" and the "Earth mother," who symbolized wisdom, change, and the turning of the seasons. Today, the kind, all-knowing old crone has morphed into the menacing, cackling witch.

 

So... Who's momma is more likely to put out in season of horror?

has unfortunately been turned into. many beliefs in many parts of this planet once upon a time honored their dead communally in this manor.

on the other paw, dancing and communing with their spirits, inviting them to the party so to speck, well that is yet another kind of thing too.

celebrating the harvest too actually, is another part of this, and the taxing in kind of the harvest in ancient times, certainly makes more sense then in mid winter,
which make far more likely a date for the birth of the manifestation of that most dominant of beliefs in the english speaking world.

Looks like the Christmas decorations in Haddonfield are already on display this year despite the fact that we're ten days shy of Halloween and one month shy of Thanksgiving.

Perhaps this guy Michael Meyers isn't such a bad guy after all.
