Trump sues NY AG. Trump sues New York attorney general in bid to halt inquiry into business affairs excerpt: "Donald J. Trump filed a lawsuit on Monday against the New York State attorney general, Letitia James, seeking to halt her long-running civil investigation into his business practices. The suit, filed in federal court in upstate New York by Mr. Trump and his family real estate business, argues that Ms. James’s inquiry, which has lasted more than two years, has violated Mr. Trump’s constitutional rights. Mr. Trump and his lawyers have long argued that the investigation was politically motivated; the lawsuit asks a judge to agree, and to stop the investigation. “Her mission is guided solely by political animus and a desire to harass, intimidate, and retaliate against a private citizen who she views as a political opponent,” the suit reads. A spokesman for Ms. James did not immediately reply to a request for comment. If Ms. James were to find evidence of wrongdoing, she could file a lawsuit against Mr. Trump, but because it is a civil inquiry, she could not file criminal charges."
Trump is nervous about Capitol investigation. Trump said himself that invoking the 5th implies guilty. Why Trump appears deeply unnerved as Capitol attack investigation closes in excerpt: "Donald Trump is increasingly agitated by the House select committee investigating the Capitol attack, according to sources familiar with the matter, and appears anxious he might be implicated in the sprawling inquiry into the insurrection even as he protests his innocence. The former president in recent weeks has complained more about the investigation, demanding why his former White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows, shared so much material about 6 January with the select committee, and why dozens of other aides have also cooperated. Trump has also been perturbed by aides invoking the Fifth Amendment in depositions - it makes them look weak and complicit in a crime, he has told associates - and considers them foolish for not following the lead of his former strategist Steve Bannon in simply ignoring the subpoenas."
Former President Donald Trump downplays Jan. 6 insurrection, doubles down on false election claims on Texas trip excerpt: "Trump’s obsession with spreading falsehoods about the election may have inspired state Republican lawmakers this year to pass the sweeping voting restrictions bill. He also directly pressured top GOP leaders, including Abbott, to pursue audits of local election results — even though Trump won Texas. Trump’s remarks about the insurrection this weekend drew swift condemnation from Texas Democrats, who accused the former president of perpetrating the “big lie” that he won the election — not President Joe Biden. “This is dangerous, and it is a poor reflection for America’s commitment to democracy for the rest of the world to see,” U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee said in a statement to the Houston Chronicle. Trump’s first stop on Sunday was at the First Baptist Dallas Church — headed by Robert Jeffress, one of Trump’s earliest supporters among evangelical Christian leaders and later an informal adviser to the president — to give what was billed as a “special Christmas greeting” to the congregation."
Former President Donald Trump downplays Jan. 6 insurrection, doubles down on false election claims on Texas trip excerpt: "Later Sunday afternoon, attendees — who paid up to $200 for admission — stood for more than an hour in the cold outside of the American Airlines Center to see Trump and O’Reilly. Lines stretched around the arena and onto adjacent blocks. Many wore classic Trump garb like hats with his slogan “Make America Great Again.”"
Trump falsely accuses Pelosi of rejecting what Trump falsely claims was an official request for 10,000 troops at the Capitol to protect lawmakers from his rioters. Former President Donald Trump downplays Jan. 6 insurrection, doubles down on false election claims on Texas trip excerpt: "In his remarks, Trump said he wished lawmakers had more protection during the Jan. 6 attack and that he asked for 10,000 National Guard troops to be present at the Capitol that day — a claim that has been debunked. The former president made no mention of the revelation last week that several Fox News hosts implored his former chief of staff through text messages to urge Trump to call off the rioters."
https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...he-requested-10000-troops-rejected-by-pelosi/ excerpt: "On the day before the Jan. 6 rally, Trump appears to have mentioned 10,000 National Guard troops at a White House meeting on an unrelated matter. Contrary to his statement, he did not make a request or any sort of order to dispatch the troops. Otherwise, his comment would not have been regarded as typical Trump hype. Presumably if he had issued an order, he would have followed up to make sure it was carried out. Trump goes further afield when he claims that his number was raised with the Capitol Police and that Pelosi, in “a big mistake,” rejected the offer of so many troops. That’s just fantasy. Like many of Trump’s falsehoods, there’s a seed of reality here. But then the former president nurtures it into a bush of fictions as part of his continuing effort to evade responsibility for how his own actions led to the Capitol Hill riot. He earns Four Pinocchios."
He wanted them to protect the insurrection. Mark Meadows Said the National Guard Would Be Ready on Jan. 6 … to Protect Trump Supporters Trump wanted troops to protect his supporters at Jan. 6 rally
What kind of BS is this? The next time I get a traffic citation my defense will be that traffic laws violate my constitutional rights.
Your defense would be rejected of course, but it would buy you more time. To challenge the citation any further would cost money and it wouldn't be worth it for you, but when you have deep pockets like Trump has you can continue to make a mockery of the justice system while remaining free to make a mockery of our political system.

Trump's behavior about wanting to overthrow the election made Miller wary of sending troops to the Capitol to protect Trump's protesters. Trump wanted troops to protect his supporters at Jan. 6 rally excerpt: "Representative Carolyn Maloney, the Democrat who chairs the committee, demanded answers from Miller on why National Guard troops did not arrive until hours after the building was overrun. Miller testified that the U.S. military was deliberately restrained that day when Trump's rally turned into an assault by hundreds of his followers that left five dead, including a Capitol Police officer. Miller testified that he was concerned in the days before Jan. 6 that sending National Guard troops to Washington would fan fears of a military coup or that Trump advisers were advocating martial law."
