Trump endorses Mary Miller, a friend of Marjorie Taylor Greene. Trump has picked her to challenge an incumbent, Davis, who was part of Trump's reelection campaign in Illinois. Trump jumps into Illinois politics, endorsing Rep. Mary Miller over Rep. Rodney Davis excerpt: "WASHINGTON — Jumping into Illinois politics, former President Donald Trump endorsed Rep. Mary Miller on Saturday, setting up a bruising 2022 GOP primary with Rep. Rodney Davis, who was a co-chair of Trump’s re-election campaign in the state. The difference between Miller and Davis — who told me a few weeks ago on the Sun-Times “At the Table” show he would welcome Trump’s backing — is that Miller, a freshman, is from the far-right MAGA wing of the Republican party which includes Miller’s friend, Trump acolyte, election denier and conspiracy theory peddler Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga. Both Davis and Miller are conservatives. Miller, from Oakland, is the highest ranking elected official in Illinois promoting Trumpism. Davis, seeking a sixth term, is climbing the rungs of GOP House leadership and flirted with a run for governor. Davis is known for working with members of both parties."
Any and every lawmaker, elected official or legislative body should consider their actions in terms of what might happen in the future because of what they do now. For example, McConnell & friends trick in '16 of preventing Merrick Garland from even getting a hearing on his Supreme Court nomination by Obama. No matter what the GOP might tell us, this was done strictly to prevent a Democratic president from choosing a SC justice....and no other reason. So, what's to prevent the Dems from doing the same thing to a Republican nominee in the future when a GOP president has to deal with a Democratic majority in Congress? In fact, how can the Democrats not do this, given the precedent set by the GOP? How can they be expected to play it straight when the Republicans take advantage every time? Still, the party of Trump will scream bloody murder when it happens. This principle will apply to many other facets of democracy that the Republicans are currently destroying for their own benefit. The idea of Trump trying to bar any details on the election and aftermath that are damaging to him is disturbing, but what might be even worse are his voters and fellow lawmakers seeing his actions as perfectly reasonable. The long-range effects will be disastrous for the American form of government. Yet, GOP voters seem to not be considering any of these factors...... all they know is that want Trump to be the president. Never mind being 'elected' Now, they want their president to be 'installed or 'reinstalled.' Their 'vision' doesn't extend any further than that. This short-sightedness is going to cost us all.....big-time.
Yes, it is about national security and Trump being a threat to our security. I have for many years said that the new GOP, pursuant the advent of the Tea Party, has been slowly feeding their base the ideas of the Confederate States. Justice John Roberts recently told us that we have a real danger in the GOP effort of establishing a new order in the separation of powers where each state can over-ride a supreme court ruling. This idea was first presented by John C Calhoun. He also wanted state rights to include the ability to over-ride the voters and send their own Confederate electors to choose the new president. I see these ideas being pushed hard by Trump's supporters and also see where Trump can seat himself as some permanent president, just like Putin.
Chilling Trump Letter Calling For 'Seizure' Of Election Material Revealed In Log To Jan. 6 Probers excerpt: "A chilling item in a document log provided to Jan. 6 investigators describes a draft letter by then-President Donald Trump calling for the “seizure” of election materials after he lost. The log, along with a trove of documents, was provided last week to the House select committee probing the insurrection. They were handed over by Trump ally Bernard Kerik, former New York City police commissioner and a confidant of Trump’s one-time attorney Rudy Giuliani, Politico reported. Kerik was a key adviser to Trump’s legal team trying to cook up a narrative of fraud in the presidential election Joe Biden won. Besides the documents Kerik turned over to the committee, he also offered a log of documents he refused to provide, including the Trump letter, according to Politico."

Trump had pardoned the convicted Flynn about a week before his meetings with him in December 2020 where Flynn reportedly wanted to invoke martial law to overthrow the election. Chilling Trump Letter Calling For 'Seizure' Of Election Material Revealed In Log To Jan. 6 Probers excerpt: "The letter was created Dec. 17, 2020, a day before Trump met in the Oval Office with advisers including retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn and discussed seizing election equipment in states Trump lost. Trump also discussed naming controversial far-right attorney and conspiracy theorist Sidney Powell as a “special counsel” to investigate alleged election fraud, The New York Times reported, but Trump didn’t follow through with it. Flynn had already suggested Trump could invoke martial law to seize control of the election. The Dominion Voting Systems has since sued Powell for $1.3 billion for the “unprecedented harm” it says Powell wreaked with her “wild,” baseless allegations of voter fraud. Powell and other attorneys were ordered to pay $175,000 in sanctions to Michigan officials they had unsuccessfully sued over baseless claims of election fraud. A U.S. District judge said the lawyers had engaged in “a historic and profound abuse of the judicial process,” and called some of the claims “fantastical.”"
Rand Paul thinks that legal voter outreach efforts cause a stolen election, but only when Democrats do it. Rand Paul Inadvertently Tells The Truth About Republican Voter Fraud Claims excerpt: “How to steal an election,” Paul tweeted Monday night, before quoting an article from The American Conservative. “‘Seeding an area heavy with potential Democratic votes with as many absentee ballots as possible, targeting and convincing potential voters to complete them in a legally valid way, and then harvesting and counting the results.’”
Trump said himself that the GOP would never win another election if voting access was made easy for everyone. The GOP could still win elections in a legal, easily accessible voting system, but it would have to start better accommodating segments of the voting public that it hasn't in the past, such as minorities, lower income groups, the urban and suburban populace, and environmentally minded people. Instead, the GOP, at Trump's direction, has chosen to go the route of selective voter suppression under the guise of voting integrity.
Stacey Abrams mounted a formidable voter outreach program in GA for the special Senate runoff elections in January 2021. She simply outdid Trump and the GOP who discouraged their own voters with false election fraud narratives. It gave the Democrats two seats in the Senate. Trump, in his typical sore loser response, accused her of vote harvesting.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/01/01/post-poll-january-6/ excerpt: "The percentage of Americans who say violent action against the government is justified at times stands at 34 percent, which is considerably higher than in past polls by The Post or other major news organizations dating back more than two decades. Again, the view is partisan: The new survey finds 40 percent of Republicans, 41 percent of independents and 23 percent of Democrats saying violence is sometimes justified. On Jan. 6, the day Congress was to ratify the 2020 electoral college vote, Trump claimed at a rally near the White House that the election had been rigged and urged his followers to “fight like hell” to stop what he said was a stolen outcome. Many of his supporters walked to the Capitol from the rally and took part in the violence. Overall, 60 percent of Americans say Trump bears either a “great deal” or a “good amount” of responsibility for the insurrection, but 72 percent of Republicans and 83 percent of Trump voters say he bears “just some” responsibility or “none at all.”"
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/01/01/post-poll-january-6/ excerpt: "Overall, the Post-UMD survey finds that 68 percent of Americans say there is no solid evidence of widespread fraud but 30 percent say there is Big majorities of Democrats (88 percent) and independents (74 percent) say there is no evidence of such irregularities, but 62 percent of Republicans say there is such evidence. That is almost identical to the percentage of Republicans who agreed with Trump’s claims of voter fraud a week after that Capitol attack, based on a Washington Post-ABC News poll at the time. About 7 in 10 Americans say Biden’s election as president was legitimate, but that leaves almost 3 in 10 who say it was not, including 58 percent of Republicans and 27 percent of independents. The 58 percent of Republicans who say Biden was not legitimately elected as president is down somewhat from 70 percent in a Post-ABC poll conducted in January shortly after the Capitol attack."
Reality may have sunk in for some of the GOP. Fourteen months have passed since the 2020 election with no evidence of widespread voter fraud.
Trump plans to hold his gathering at the same time as a vigil in Congress. At time of Capitol prayer service Jan. 6, Trump will deliver remarks doubling down on the ‘Big Lie’ The riot at the Capitol briefly looked like it had broken Trump's hold on the GOP. Instead, he has reaffirmed his dominion over the party. By DAVID SIDERS 01/02/2022 07:00 AM EST At time of Capitol prayer service Jan. 6, Trump will deliver remarks doubling down on the ‘Big Lie’ excerpt: "Donald Trump has already telegraphed the remarks he plans to give at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday, the anniversary of the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol. If he follows the script laid out in his announcement of the news conference, he will commit a whitewashing of the day, repeating the lie that the 2020 election was rigged and defending his part in fomenting the insurrection — all while a solemn prayer service is held at the Capitol, in a vivid split-screen moment. And, as Trump castigates Republicans not toeing his line, his event will also serve as a marker of Trump’s extraordinary dominion over the GOP."
As Trump weighs 2024 bid, top Republican calls him 'clearly unfit for future office' - NewsBreak excerpt: "As the one-year anniversary of the Capitol siege nears, the House select committee's sprawling probe is in full swing. In the past six months, the panel has interviewed more than 300 people, issued more than 50 subpoenas and obtained tens of thousands of records. Cheney said the panel's substantial efforts have already garnered important findings regarding Trump's actions that day. "The committee has firsthand testimony now that [Trump] was sitting in the dining room next to the Oval Office watching the attack on television," she said."
As Trump weighs 2024 bid, top Republican calls him 'clearly unfit for future office' - NewsBreak excerpt: "She went on to add, "We have firsthand testimony that his daughter Ivanka went in at least twice to ask him to please stop this violence." "He could have told them to stand down. He could have told them to go home – and he failed to do so," Cheney continued. "It's hard to imagine a more significant and more serious dereliction of duty than that." "Is his failure to make that statement criminal negligence?" Stephanopoulos asked. Cheney replied that there are several "potential criminal statutes at issue here." "But I think that there's absolutely no question that it was a dereliction of duty, and I think one of the things the committee needs to look at is we're looking at a legislative purpose is whether we need enhanced penalties for that kind of dereliction of duty," she said.""
Trump reportedly was in the White House private dining room enjoying his insurrection on T.V. He did nothing to stop the riot for three hours, other than making a few candy-ass remarks such as telling his rioters to be polite to the police while they were rioting. That's like a captain abandoning his sinking ship and telling passengers to be polite while they fight over life jackets.
It's pathetic that some of the most relevant government officials who should have been able to reach Trump had to go to his daughter to try to convince him to stop the riot.
