An internet post purporting to prove that the worst genocides of the twentieth century were the result of gun control laws includes a good deal of erroneous history. Now, what this has to do with the U.S. is questionable. No one has seriously proposed taking away all guns from Americans so I don't know why you would post this. What it does show, is that authoritarianism, or dictatorships, are the real danger to citizens. Who’s likelier to take your guns away? An authoritarian regime
This is a fine how-do-ya-do-----so these laws mean anyone can just walk in to a gun store and walk out with a sack full a' guns with no background check? I hope that is not true and some kind of background check is required.
Ok--thanks. What I get from that info is that even without having to get a state permit, a buyer will have to go through a federal background check. Of course as with anything concerning dealing with humans, there will be mistakes .
State laws vary. In PA you can only sell a hand gun to close relatives, all other sales must go through a gun dealer...not that that stops anyone. You can buy long guns, including assault weapons, at your local flea market with no questions asked.
Friend of mine in California wanted to buy a 38 special of mine. I went to a gun store here , filled out some paperwork and the shop shipped it to a gun shop there where he picked it up. I reckon that's the way it should work.
The crime should be any sale that doesn't involve a background check, including private sellers. If that upsets somebody because of their "hobby" of buying and selling guns in the private market. Too bad. Get a new fucking hobby.
As a private individual you can't predict who is going to commit a crime unless there are some pretty obvious indicators, like they tell you they need a gun to rob a bank or something.
Agreed, truly understand the concerns, and that’s why purchasing a firearm, even from a private citizen, needs to go through the same process described by scratcho, which should automatically incorporate a background check. If that process for selling is followed then that frees the seller from any responsibility if the buyer’s intentions become criminal. The seller is legally protected then.
Pretty sure here in Oregon, the only time you don't have to go through a background check is selling or giving to a relative.
Yeah, here in PA no recorded transfer needed for child, grandchild, parent, grandparent, or spouse for pistols. But as guns don't have to be registered I can see a gun traveling from son to father to a different son.
