As if there aren't enough people like Boebert and Greene already in Congress.

Sarah Palin Announces She’s Running for Congress in Alaska

    excerpt:

"Sarah Palin, a former Alaska governor and the Republican nominee for vice president in 2008, said Friday that she was entering the race for Alaska’s lone congressional seat, marking her return to national politics after she helped revive the anti-establishment rhetoric that has come to define the Republican Party.

She will be joining a crowded field of nearly 40 candidates to fill the House seat left vacant by Representative Don Young, whose unexpected death last month has spurred one of the largest political shifts in the state in 50 years.

Ms. Palin said she planned to honor Mr. Young’s legacy, painting a dystopian picture of the nation in crisis, criticizing the “radical left,” high gas prices, inflation and illegal immigration."

Palin is sufficiently flippant for Trump to endorse.

The seat became available when Don Young died in March 2022 at the age of 88.

‘She paved the way for Trump’: will Sarah Palin stay in the Republican spotlight?

    excerpt:

"The ascent of Palin – going outside what had been deemed an acceptable talent pool in terms of experience and judgment – is now seen as a pivotal moment in American political history, opening a Pandora’s box of divisive, nativist, anti-intellectual, celebrity-driven smash-mouth politics.

Steve Schmidt, then a senior adviser to the McCain campaign, was the first to float the idea of Palin as running mate. In an interview with the Guardian, Schmidt said his exact words were: “We should take a look at Sarah Palin. I don’t know a lot about her other than she’s the most popular governor in the country with an 87% approval level.”

So it was that in August 2008 McCain invited Palin to his ranch in Sedona, Arizona, to consider the bold move. Schmidt recalled: “Mark Salter [another adviser] and I are there with McCain, and McCain says, ‘Come on, boys, let’s go talk to her.’"

John McCain opened Pandora’s box – Sarah Palin came out, but Trump was right behind her

    excerpt:

"Wednesday marks the 10th anniversary of McCain unveiling Sarah Palin, a say-anything, gun-toting political neophyte, as his running mate in the 2008 presidential election. It was an act of political desperation that left Washington aghast. It delivered a short-term boost in the polls. But it also opened the Pandora’s box of populism.

Looking back at the day in Dayton, Ohio, as the crowd roars while McCain’s face is frozen in rictus, the moment is freighted with portents of a decade in which his beloved Republican party would slip from his grasp. It is a premonition of what many in America and around the world have come to regard as the horror of Trumpism.

“I don’t think he could have known it at the time but he took a disease that was running through the Republican party – anti-intellectualism, disrespect for facts – and he put it right at the centre of the party,” David Brooks, a New York Times columnist, told the recent HBO documentary John McCain: For Whom the Bell Tolls."

Duncan Hunter hit with civil fine by FEC.

Hunter was convicted and sentenced to 11 months in prison.

    Trump pardoned Hunter.

Feds Slap Disgraced Rep. Duncan Hunter With Measly Fine After Trump Pardon

    excerpt:

"Almost exactly two years after former Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) was sentenced to 11 months in prison for campaign finance violations—and more than a year after then-President Donald Trump pardoned him—the Federal Election Commission has finally gotten around to the case.

The agency published its decision on Thursday: Those involved will pay two fines, for a grand total of only $16,000.

Hunter had committed what were widely seen as among the most flagrant personal use violations in recent history. Over a period of several years, he and his wife—Margaret Hunter, who doubled as his campaign manager—stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from his campaign account and spent it on personal items like vacations, gifts, groceries, oral surgery, and credit card bills. Hunter himself was accused of using thousands of dollars in donor money to fund numerous extramarital affairs, including with multiple lobbyists and a Republican aide."

Trump's buddy Alex Jones hit with fines.

Judge refuses to toss daily fines before Alex Jones sits for Newtown deposition

    excerpt:

"NEWTOWN, Connecticut (WABC) -- A Connecticut judge has denied a motion to halt financial penalties imposed on Alex Jones so, as of Friday, the conspiracy theorist and right-wing provocateur owes $25,000 for declining to sit for a deposition in a defamation lawsuit by families of Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre victims.

Connecticut Superior Court Judge Barbara Bellis assessed the fine, which increases exponentially each day Jones refuses to appear, and on Friday denied his motion for a stay.

Jones appealed to the Connecticut Supreme Court."

Lawsuit against Oath Keepers and Proud Boys expands as new Jan. 6 evidence revealed

    excerpt:

"The attorney general in Washington, D.C., has expanded his lawsuit against some of the Donald Trump supporters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Karl Racine has added six new defendants, including Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes, to his lawsuit against more than 30 individuals connected to the right-wing Oath Keepers and Proud Boys militant groups, reported Politico.

“Over the last few months, we have learned more about the horrors of January 6 — including more about how the leaders of the two groups behind the attack urged members to use violence to overturn the outcome of a lawful presidential election,” Racine said in a statement. “We are seeking justice for the District, our democracy, and the brave law enforcement officers who risked their lives that day.”

Racine also added Oath Keepers members Edward Vallejo, Joseph Hackett, David Moerschel and Brian Ulrich, as well as Proud Boys member Matthew Greene, who recently pleaded guilty to his role in the riot and agreed to cooperate with prosecutors."

Jared Kushner and Donald Trump Probably Won’t Be Splitting a Milkshake With Two Straws Any Time Soon

    excerpt:

"NBC News reports that Kushner—husband of Ivanka, son-in-law of Donald, and former senior White House adviser—met virtually with the panel on Thursday for more than six hours, after voluntarily agreeing to speak with the committee. While Trump family members have been known in the past to meet with officials investigating the ex-president only to plead the Fifth hundreds of times, Kushner reportedly saw no reason to stonewall the group. Though the details of what he revealed are not known at this time, Virginia Democratic representative Elaine Luria told MSNBC the former first son-in-law provided the panel with “really valuable” information. Speaking to NPR, Luria said, “I think that the committee really appreciates hearing information directly from people who have relevant facts about January 6, and the fact that Jared Kushner came as a witness is helpful to building the story of our investigation.”"

Florida man gets 18 months in prison for threats to Pelosi, AOC

    excerpt:

"A Florida man was sentenced Friday to a year and a half in federal prison for issuing a series of crude and violent threats to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Paul Hoeffer, 60, of Palm Beach Gardens, received the sentence at a hearing in Fort Pierce, Fla., after pleading guilty to three felony counts of making interstate threats against Pelosi (D-Calif.), Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and a prominent prosecutor in Chicago, Kim Foxx, court records show.

Prosecutors had asked U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon for a sentence of about 3½ years in prison for Hoeffer. His defense asked for leniency, noting that he was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

Hoeffer admitted that in March 2019 he left a vulgar voice mail message at Pelosi’s office, threatening to cut her head off “Jihadist style” and warning her to “sleep with one eye open.”

Hoeffer also conceded that around the same time he left a series of threatening messages for Foxx, who is Black, including a racial slur. “Bullets are going to rattle your fucking brain,” one message said."
