Trump’s $28 Billion Bet That Rural America Will Stick With Him

    excerpt:

"U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue was fielding questions at a farm show in Decatur, Ill., in late August when his boss rang his cellphone. Perdue put the call on speaker and placed it next to the microphone so the crowd could hear Donald Trump speak. During the almost seven-minute call the president defended his handling of the trade conflict with China, which has cut off American farmers from one of their most important export markets. Yet he was quick to remind them that he’s tried to salve their pain. “I sometimes see where these horrible dishonest reporters will say that ‘oh jeez, the farmers are upset.’ Well, they can’t be too upset, because I gave them $12 billion and I gave them $16 billion this year,” said Trump, who then added, “I hope you like me even better than you did in ’16.”

A couple of years ago, a pep talk from Trump might have drawn raucous applause from one of the president’s key constituencies. This time the crowd was subdued. “The aid package that has come in is a relief, and it softens the landing, but it’s not a solution, it’s a Band-Aid,” says Stan Born, a farmer who attended the event. When asked if the payments make him whole, Born, who grows 500 acres of soybeans near Decatur, responds, “Of course not.” He’d rather have free trade, he says."

    Prognosis for Trump's buddy, Putin.

Putin will be in a sanatorium and out of power by 2023, former British intelligence chief predicts

    excerpt:

"The former head of British intelligence predicted Russian President Vladimir Putin will be out of power by next year and in a medical facility for long-term illness.

Sir Richard Dearlove was head of the UK's Secret Intelligence Service, also known as MI6, from 1999 to 2004. He made the predictions about Putin on Wednesday during an episode of the podcast One Decision, which he co-hosts.

"I'm really going to stick my neck out. I think he'll be gone by 2023. But probably into the sanatorium, from which he will not emerge as the leader of Russia," he said, adding that the sanatorium would be a way to move Putin out of power without a coup."

But Trump can spend 14 minutes at a rally in Tulsa trying to defend his slow walk down what he said was a slippery ramp (during a blue sky day in June).

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...laining-about-coverage-his-west-point-speech/

    excerpt:

"For 14 minutes and 15 seconds of his one hour, 43-minute speech, Trump walked through his speech one week ago at the U.S. Military Academy. That speech was meant to show a powerful commander in chief leading newly minted Army second lieutenants in a shared appreciation of country. Instead, two unrelated moments from the speech — one in which Trump gingerly used two hands to drink a glass of water and one in which he slowly and carefully descended a ramp to leave the stage — caught the nation’s attention. A speech intended to show Trump’s strength instead conveyed frailty, as his campaign was repeatedly trying to depict Biden as old and feeble."

Beverly Hills salon owner who admitted to role in Capitol riot is trying to back out of part of her plea deal – Daily News

    excerpt:

"According to the “statement of offense,” Bisignano joined a group of rioters who made their way up an exterior set of stairs and onto the Lower West Terrace before trying to get through a tunnel and past officers outfitted with riot gear into the actual Capitol building. At one point, Bisignano was hit with a direct shot of chemical irritants sprayed by an officer, leading to video footage showing Bisignano with makeup streaming down her face.

After 40 minutes of struggle, the officers were able to push the crowd, including Bisignano, out of the tunnel and back onto the Lower West Terrace. According to her “statement of offense,” Bisignano then urged the rioters to break a nearby window.

Bisignano climbed onto the ledge of a windowsill, as several other people used various items — including a hatchet-style tool and a fire extinguisher — to break open the window.

While standing on the windowsill next to the broken window, Bisignano allegedly incited the crowd, yelling through a bullhorn “Everybody, we need gas masks! We need weapons! We need strong angry patriots to help our boys!” and “We the people are not going to take it anymore, you are not going to take away our Trumpy Bear, you are not going to take away our votes.”"

Bisignano was at the front line of the rioters at the tunnel where the fiercest fighting took place. She was using a megaphone to direct people to riot using incendiary words.

She's not deserving of a pity party for her behavior.

Jared Kushner and Steve Mnuchin cashed in fast on their Trump-era work, raising $3.5 billion from Arab states for private funds, report says

    excerpt:

"Jared Kushner, a former senior advisor to President Donald Trump, and former Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin raised a combined $3.5 billion from Arab monarchies within six months of leaving the office, The New York Times reported.

Shortly after Trump left office, Mnuchin launched a fund, Liberty Capital, and Kushner followed soon after, launching Affinity Partners in July.

Within six months, Affinity Partners had secured a $2 billion investment from the Saudi sovereign-wealth fund, The Times reported in April.

Liberty Capital raised more than $1.5 billion from the sovereign-wealth funds of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Qatar within three months of Mnuchin leaving office, The Times reported.

Political commentators and ethics experts were concerned that the investments may be a way for the investors to gain footing with those close to Trump, should he run for and win the 2024 election. Trump has yet to declare whether he will run."

Pence, Tiptoeing Away From Trump, Lays Groundwork for ’24 Run

    excerpt:

"After four years of service bordering on subservience, the increasingly emboldened Mr. Pence is seeking to reintroduce himself to Republican voters ahead of a potential presidential bid by setting himself apart from what many in the G.O.P. see as the worst impulses of Mr. Trump. He’s among a small group in his party considering a run in 2024 no matter what Mr. Trump decides.

Mr. Pence first used high-profile speeches to criticize the former president’s push to overturn the 2020 election results, stating flatly that Mr. Trump was “wrong” in his assertion that Mr. Pence could have blocked the Electoral College ratification on Jan. 6, 2021. Mr. Pence then unsubtly visited the Charlottesville, Va., memorial to Heather Heyer, who was killed in the 2017 white supremacist riot there that Mr. Trump sought to rationalize by faulting “both sides.”

Now, on Monday outside Atlanta, Mr. Pence is taking his boldest and most unambiguous step toward confronting his former political patron. On the eve of Georgia’s primary, the former vice president will stump with Gov. Brian Kemp, perhaps the top target of Mr. Trump’s 2022 vengeance campaign against Republicans who didn’t bow to his election lies."

Capitol attack panel to hold six public hearings as it aims to show how Trump broke law

    excerpt:

"The House select committee investigating the January 6 attack on the Capitol is expected to stage six public hearings in June on how Donald Trump and some allies broke the law as they sought to overturn the 2020 election results, according to sources familiar with the inquiry.

The hearings are set to be a pivotal political moment for the country as the panel aims to publicly outline the potentially unlawful schemes that tried to keep the former president in office despite his defeat at the hands of Joe Biden.

According to a draft schedule reviewed by the Guardian, the select committee intends to hold six hearings, with the first and last in prime time, where its lawyers will run through how Trump’s schemes took shape before the election and culminated with the Capitol attack."

As mentioned near the end of the video, the secretary of state in PA is appointed by the governor.

Mastriano, who helped Trump try to overthrow the 2020 election, won the 2022 primary for governor in PA.

    Pennsylvania Secretary of State

    excerpt:

"The department licenses more than one million business, health, and real estate professionals. It maintains registration and financial information for thousands of charities soliciting contributions from Pennsylvanians, oversees Pennsylvania's electoral process, maintains corporate filings, and sanctions professional boxing, kick-boxing, and wrestling in the Commonwealth. The secretary is the keeper of the Great Seal of the Commonwealth and has the duty of authenticating government documents through the seal's use. The secretary is also the Commonwealth's Chief Election Official."
