russia's front in northeast of Ukraine is collapsing. Ukrainians are advancing really fast now and the front lines are moving rapidly. According to president Zelenskyy, 2000 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory has been liberated from the russians and taken back to Ukrainian control around the city of Kharkiv. russians have retreated from the cities of Izium and Balakliia following a total collapse of russian resistance. russians are being evacuated from Kharkiv. Also, the strategically important railroad city of Kupiansk has reportedly been retaken to Ukrainian control, further damaging russian supply lines.

(Twitter, parliament member, Ukraine, Oleksiy Goncharenko, @GoncharenkoUa)

Meanwhile, some local authorities in Smolny, St. Petersburg have recently had the courage to demand that vladimir putin should be arrested and tried for treason. The authorities in question have now themselves been arrested for their words. But cracks in the russian consensus regarding the war are visibly emerging now. I hope these guys don't get assassinated with the use of some hospital windows for what they said.

God, please don't let this be just a fluke from the Ukrainians. The sooner this ends, the better. And preferably to Ukrainian victory.

putin is now in some serious shit. The "special military operation" appears to be a complete fuck up. Ukraine will retain its independence. russia's military is in shambles. Their economy and reputation ruined. Nato will expand further with two new members, which means russia no longer has any influence in the Baltic sea. They played their final trump card (bar nukes) by turning off Nord Stream 1 in an effort to blackmail the EU with energy. This is unlikely to work long term, if at all. The EU is now in the process of figuring out alternatives as the next winter draws near. And now russia has lost something like half of their revenue from their global energy sales that they can't replace, hitting their finances hard.

I'd say that the clock is ticking for vladimir putin and his reign of terror.

Colonel General Oleksandr Sryskyi of Ukraines Army High Command

Colonel General Oleksandr Sryskyi is the Brains behind the entire Russian Northern Front faltering like a house of cards, reclaiming 5560 km (3454 Miles) in a matter of only 144 hours (5 days) using the Kherson Counter Offensive to completely decimate the Russia Kharkiv Front.

Hopefully Ukraine doesn't over extend itself like I've done playing Risk.

"These Russian losses are the accumulation of a multitude of existing problems that are now colliding head-on with a Ukrainian military that has been patient, methodical and infused with billions of dollars of the Western military equipment that Russia cannot match."

"Many of Russia’s problems – poor and inflexible leadership, sour troop morale, inadequate logistics and hardware beset by maintenance issues – have been evident since the beginning stages of the war more than seven months ago."

The rot runs deep in the Russian war machine. Ukraine is exposing it for all to see | CNN

They were questioning a captured Russian soldier, he and his crew were ordered to take a tank into battle that didn't have an operable gun...

I heard that Zelensky is a brilliant tactician: however, the advantage of the Ukrainians in this war clearly has come from the liberty of small unit leadership, coherent execution of quickly adapted and improvised missions and operations, IMMEDIATELY and ON THE GROUND. This will be an indictment of lingering soviet-era SOP's which plagued the Russian infantry, calvary and air force and required them to report always to higher echelons of command within the Putin command system, presumably to Putin himself. Putin. Who is not a tactician. He was trained as an intelligence operative in Berlin during the 80s working on analytical models for ROBOTROn, the CCCR's answer to Mad Max and the early versions of Hannibal, before the fall of the Berlin Wall. I read most of the Ukrainian crises part two, there are a lot of key factors which have been explained perfectly by you guys.
But, I like to open a new chapter about the root of this dirty war like many other dirty wars all around the world, and mention how is a winner or loser? The people of Ukraine will be the main winner, because the they site for their country, but the other side fight for Putin not for Russia.

Certainly not a good one. Coincidence or not, notice how after he removed Sergei Shoigu from command of the operation, and took direct control of the whole affair, notice how almost immediately the russians lost Kharkiv? On putin's watch. Yeah, well done. Nice job, asshole. Now they are apparently shifting blame from Kremlin to the officers in the military. I'm holding on to hope that if that keeps happening long enough, it'd piss off the military brass enough that they'd go there and depose the bastard themselves.

Meanwhile, reports are coming in that russian troops in the remaining occupied areas are growing increasingly stressed and irritated following their poor success, and are taking their aggressions out on the local civilians. Beating the locals, raping women, and just generally looting and stealing anything they can get their hands on. No discipline to speak of.

When soldiers don't believe in what they're fighting for and morale sinks, the war is lost.
