The Secret Papers of Lee Atwater, Who Invented the Scurrilous Tactics That Trump Normalized An infamous Republican political operative’s unpublished memoir shows how the Party came to embrace lies, racial fearmongering, and winning at any cost. By Jane Mayer May 6, 2021 The Secret Papers of Lee Atwater, Who Invented the Scurrilous Tactics That Trump Normalized excerpt: "Atwater died before he could finish his memoir. What remains of it are hunks of yellowing typewritten pages, held together by rusting staples and paper clips. But the seven surviving chapters suggest that, far from dying along with him, the nihilism, cynicism, and scurrilous tactics that Atwater brought into national politics live on. In many ways, his memoir suggests that Atwater’s tactics were a bridge between the old Republican Party of the Nixon era, when dirty tricks were considered a scandal, and the new Republican Party of Donald Trump, in which lies, racial fearmongering, and winning at any cost have become normalized. Chapter 5 of Atwater’s memoir in particular serves as a Trumpian precursor. In it, Atwater, who worked in the Office of Political Affairs in the Reagan White House, and managed George H. W. Bush’s 1988 Presidential campaign before becoming the Republican Party’s chairman at the age of thirty-seven, admits outright that he only cared about winning, not governing. “I’ve always thought running for office is a bunch of bullshit. Being in a office is even more bullshit. It really is bullshit,” he wrote. “I’m proud of the fact that I understand how much BS it is.”" image: Manafort, Stone, and Atwater
Atwater died in 1991. He missed the opportunity of being convicted like Manafort and Stone and pardoned by Trump.

The funny thing here is that Republicans want ruin nearly every government agency andd its services to the public. Michael Flynn just last week said he wants to shut down %90 of all federal agencies. Additionally, it's a well known agenda of the Republicans who have wanted state rights so they can deny services and equality to the poor. With restrictions to voter rights, Trump and his psycho pals will have their right wing dictatorship in gear.
Trump — who ran his own airline into the ground — used his big rally finale to bash the industry in a bizarre rant: 'They don't know what the hell they're doing' excerpt: "Former President Donald Trump bashed the airline industry at a campaign rally in Michigan on Saturday. Trump visited Macomb county to support Republican candidates, including Tudor Dixon, who is running against Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. Dixon, a Trump-backed candidate, is currently trailing Whitmer in the latest polling. During the hourlong speech, Trump covered his usual list of grievances and also thanked conservative activist Ginni Thomas for telling the January 6 House Select Committee that she believed the 2020 election was stolen from him. During the close of his speech, Trump attempted a dramatic reading over a piece of music tenuously linked to QAnon. After spending a few minutes talking about violent crime, he took an abrupt detour to single out airlines and airports, saying those working in commercial aviation have no idea when flights will arrive on time. "We are a nation whose once-revered airports are a dirty, crowded mess where you sit and wait for hours and then are notified that the plane won't leave," Trump said."
