To add: Pretty much everything republicans stand for, and whatever is said on Fox "news ", I completely and utterly detest.
From Wikipedia cause my memory aint what it used to be.... "In his first term, Reagan implemented "Reaganomics", which involved economic deregulation and cuts in both taxes and government spending during a period of stagflation. He escalated an arms race with the Soviet Union and transitioned Cold War policy from détente to rollback. He also survived an assassination attempt, fought public sector labor unions, spurred the war on drugs, and ordered the 1983 invasion of Grenada. In the 1984 presidential election, Reagan defeated former vice president Walter Mondale in another landslide victory. Foreign affairs dominated Reagan's second term, including the 1986 bombing of Libya, the Iran–Iraq War, the secret sale of arms to Iran to fund the Contras, and a more conciliatory approach in talks with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev that culminated in the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty." Yes he was such a wonderful president....not!
Fox " news " exemplifies the difference between regular old time politics and politics now. Legislators used to employ the art of persuasion to get their ideas / bills put forth. A give and take. Republicans have completely abandoned the fine art of persuasion--they now are resorting to raw power to get "things"done. To rid the business world of common sense regulations, to make harder for citizens to vote, to elect gullible / moronic/ cowardly politicians to office. They have become Russian apologists , put forth the idea of a new civil war, lie with every pronouncement , elect a totally unfit "human "to serve as president---they want him back, in the main. They are now seemingly the party of the confederacy---not a sustainable, rational party any more, with a few exceptions. And Fox is partly to blame, for sure. The banning of books: you will only read what the government allows you to read. To do otherwise will invite punishment.
The Internet, and the coming of cable TV with its 300 channels made the Fairness Doctrine obsolete. when we had just a few channels it was more important.
While the internet can be enlightening most people use it as a support for their own views. True research still needs to be done in brick and mortar storehouses of knowledge. The Library of Congress has 173 million items including 51 million books, yet most people get on the net for an hour and think they are experts on every subject that comes up on Twitter.
First FOX news hosts are exposed to be lying about their support for Trump's election fraud claims. Now Tucker Carlson shows selected footage from the January 6 footage given to him by Kevin McCarthy and claims it shows it was not a riot but a peaceful demonstration! Why is FOX news still relevant?
Let me ask you all something. If FOX News hadn't lied about the 2020 election being rigged, would January 6 have happened? If Carlson, Hannity and Ingraham had reported that it's over, Donald Trump has lost and it's time to accept it and move on, would the MAGA crowd have gotten so riled up that they would riot? But instead FOX had to pander to them. When Trump kept insisting it was rigged they went along with it. They wouldn't dare contradict him, and now it's come back to haunt them. And they continue to back the wrong horse.
I don't believe any of this will touch the hard core MAGA crowd. They will never believe that they have been and are being bamboozled / made fools of.
Those entertaining talking heads on Fox News definitely contributed to the lies of the stolen election which led to Jan. 6. Sure, some may have continued to believe the former president, and some would have gone off to the darker corners where they've always existed - but I think if Fox had said it, many would have believed it. Think where you see Fox News playing. I am a member of the American Legion. Fox is always on at the bar there. I need to choose my words wisely when I am there. I see Fox in waiting rooms at hospitals, in car dealership waiting rooms, in garare repair shops, in barber's shops... How many times have you gone into a public place and seen Fox News is running on the TV monitor in the room. They could have continued to be a voice for Conservatives - but they went off the rails for profits and whatever they saw in trump, to build profits. Fox News has been spewing lies for years before Trump came along - but never had it been so blatent.
