Even after Pence finally acknowledged (two years after the fact) that Trump threatened his family with his riot at the Capitol, he is still defending Trump and his tactics. Pence and McCarthy are like a battered spouse who not only returns to the abuser repeatedly but also defends the abuser's actions and calls on history to hold the person accountable instead of the justice system. Moreover, people like Pence and McCarthy want to investigate and prosecute the justice system for doing its duty to bring justice to those who broke the law and abused them.
Trump is once again calling for protests. They could potentially occur at the courthouse, which explains why NY police were reportedly contacted to discuss security arrangements before a possible indictment. Trump could still demand that the Secret Service take him to his Capitol-style protests and riots like he did on Jan. 6 2021. This time it would be at the courthouse during his arrest and arraignment.

Hand counts aren't necessarily any safer than a machine counting the ballots. Humans are prone to errors when performing mundane, repetitive tasks. Nefarious people could deliberately count the votes incorrectly. The GOP wants GOP people to count the ballots in cities and counties where Democrats usually have a win margin.

Even worse, Trump helped convert Thomas Webster into a convict with a 10-year prison term for rioting at the Capitol. Webster is a former NYPD officer and was part of the security detail for former NY mayor Bloomberg.
