Trump is upset that another potential looming federal indictment spoiled his fine weekend of promoting his fascist plans at the Turning Point USA gathering in Florida.

Trump's activities that spawned the anticipated federal indictment of him for trying to overthrow the election occurred mainly in DC. Unlike the documents case, Trump shouldn't expect the case and trial to proceed in Florida and be overseen by his lovable Judge Cannon.

An indictement of Trump in GA appears likely and possibly with a slew of co-defendants. Willis called for extra security and for the courts to clear the deck for a couple weeks in the second half of summer, which indicates there may be numerous defendants to be arraigned.

The conservative GA Supreme Court just threw out Trump's desperate attempt to stop the investigation.

Trump's attorneys made a similar move in May 2023 when they wanted to meet with Garland, apparently to try to stop an impending indictment of Trump, which now appears likely because Trump has been sent a target letter.

This is essentially a civil war between Trump and his followers and those who are trying to defend democracy.

In the Nixon era, many in the GOP stopped supporting him as the evidence surfaced in the Watergate scandal, particularly Nixon caught on tape talking about trying to cover up a burglary. Even Billy Graham eventually stopped supporting him.

Trump's modus operandi is an overall attack on democracy itself, which makes a burglary seem minor in comparison.

Some of the GOP in Congress want to stop the special counsel by defunding him and the FBI in general at the behest of Trump. That's like a magnified version of Nixon firing the Watergate investigator via Robert Bork (which itself was appalling) but the GOP in Congress doing it instead of holding him accountable (which is even more appalling).

It remains to be seen if evidence about Trump as it surfaces will eventually be enough for the GOP to finally dump him. Trump as a former president currently has a spell on them that Nixon as president didn't have.
